Chapter 90 - Chapter 90: God-Eating Book

Aeon was no longer pestering Gale, allowing Gale to return to his normal research.

When Gale was in Sin'dorei, he had collected quite a few necromancy spells. However, these necromancy spells were all low-level offensive spells, with the most powerful likely being Fear.

The Fear spell in games is a powerful control skill. If there are no spells or items to remove Fear, one might be continuously controlled until death. In reality, the Fear spell is not as strong, but its impact is more far-reaching.

After being subjected to the Fear spell, there wasn't much immediate manifestation. Even those with strong mental fortitude might remain completely unaffected. But if you couldn't completely resist it, it would be like falling under a psychological suggestion, with the effects of the Fear spell becoming more apparent as time passed.

When the Kaldorei first fought the Bearfolk, the Bearfolk shamans would use Fear. Later, as more Kaldorei were affected, Azshara had no choice but to order a search for a solution. Finally, after research by multiple Archmages, an Arcane spell was created: Dispel Magic.

From then on, the Kaldorei were no longer afraid of Fear spells. Therefore, Fear was not a profound spell in Sin'dorei; some Mages didn't even have the desire to learn it. The books on Fear, confiscated from the Bearfolk, could only be sold as antiques, and even then, few bought them.

When Gale acquired them, he only spent 20 silver coins. Pisaster, upon hearing this, thought Gale had wasted his money.

However, from then on, many antique dealers actively sold Bearfolk books to Gale, allowing him to collect quite a few necromancy spells.

From a book by an evil Bearfolk shaman, Gale copied more than a dozen necromancy spells. Among them was a power called Soul Stealing, which allowed one to steal a portion of soul power from the soul of every intelligent creature killed, attaching it to a weapon to increase the user's strength.

This is also why Gale helped Meijia name his spellbook Meijia's Soul-Stealing Scroll.

When Gale recruited Meijia and the two others, he did indeed have a mischievous intent. However, obtaining the Soul Stealing spell was a coincidence. Meijia's liking for soul spells was an even greater coincidence.

However, since things were already this way, Gale could only make Meijia's Soul-Stealing Scroll live up to its name.

Meijia's research ability was far inferior to Gale's, and as the research deepened, he could no longer help much, only assisting Gale.

At the same time, he was also making his own spellbook.

He was already very proficient with the spellbook process; the linen cloth was ready, and he copied all the soul spells Gale had collected onto it. He planned to create the Soul-Stealing Scroll according to the Elemental Spell Codex, but Gale stopped him.

"You'd be wasting it if you do that!"

Gale guided him in carving soul runes, then helped him create a thick cover, embedding five Asunite Topazes into it, and enchanting it with Soul Stealing power.

According to his estimation, one Asunite Topaz could hold 4-5 souls, so the Soul-Stealing Scroll could hold a total of 20-25 souls, which was roughly similar to the number of stacks a kill-book could accumulate.

After the Soul-Stealing Scroll was completed, Meijia was overjoyed. He also bid farewell to Gale, as he could no longer be of much help in the laboratory and might as well go to the library to study.

Gale let him leave, and only then did he truly immerse himself in research.

He also wanted to create a new spellbook. The Soul Stealing spell had such a good effect; how could Gale be content without using it himself?

However, the targets he wanted to deal with were not ordinary intelligent life forms, but demigods or loa.

Next, the war between the empire and the Trolls would continue for many years. After subjugating the Amani Trolls, there were still the Drakkari Troll, Gurubashi Trolls, and Zandalar Troll, with loa emerging endlessly.

According to in-game calculations, there might be forty or fifty loa. If these loa gathered, it would be a very terrifying force. If there were an artifact specifically for dealing with loa, it would be of great help to the empire.

If he could gather the power of a group of loa, perhaps he could give the Burning Legion a big gift.

Thus, Gale turned his attention to Hakkar's snakeskin.

The limit of linen cloth was epic-grade equipment. To create an artifact, he could only use tougher materials, and these materials also had to have stronger magic conductivity.

Hakkar's snakeskin was perfect; it was imbued with Hakkar's divine power, tougher than linen cloth, and more suited for soul spells.

However, snakeskin was not suitable for recording spells, so some changes were needed.

Gale used Arcane on the snakeskin, transforming it into snakeskin paper, making it easy to write on. He recorded all the necromancy spells on the snakeskin paper, then drew constant runes along the edges, imbuing all these spells into the pages.

In addition, he prepared dozens of blank pages, with runes carved along the edges.

After binding it into a book, Gale made a thick cover from the snakeskin paper. Within the layers of the cover, he embedded titan runes made of orichalcum.

Finally, Gale infused all the extracted soul divine power of Hakkar into the spellbook.

The spellbook flickered once, then returned to its ordinary appearance.

Gale's heart filled with joy, it was done!

But after picking it up, he frowned slightly. It had clearly shown the characteristics of an artifact just now, so why had it reverted to epic grade?

He inspected it and then understood the situation. The spellbook's cover indeed contained a large amount of divine power, but no magic circuit had been set for this divine power. If the divine power could not be mobilized, it could only be used as an epic-grade spellbook.

Divine power has a unique nature; not everyone can mobilize it. Gale had imprinted his mark on the soul divine power; unless someone broke it, no one else could use this book.

Meijia's was a kill-book, while this spellbook was a god-slaying book.

Then let's call it the devourer of gods!

Putting away the devourer of gods, Gale tidied up the laboratory and walked out.

It had been several months since he returned to Gale's Tower; he wondered how the construction of Dalaran was progressing. And Maiev, it had been months since they last met; he wondered if she missed him.

Gale settled things at Gale's Tower, specifically instructing Antalia to keep a close record of Aeon's every move, and then mounted his Proto-Dragon and flew to Dalaran.

Leaving Gale's Tower, the Proto-Dragon was a bit unhappy. Without Lu'anna's roast meat, everywhere else was a place of bitter cold.

Gale sensed its slight moodiness and couldn't help but roll his eyes. If Lu'anna continued to pamper it, this fellow might forget that he was its master.

He gently tapped its head, and the Proto-Dragon immediately put away its displeasure, flying over the mountains at its fastest speed.

After several months, Dalaran had already taken initial shape. Under Tulan's leadership, the Mages had already built the city walls and most of the houses, and were now constructing the Mage Tower. Gale was right; building a Mage Tower here would accelerate the Mages' cultivation.

However, Yue Nu was full of complaints about this, because this year's mining company profits were intended for the continued renovation of Zul'Saroth.

Zul'Saroth had now changed its name to Darkmoon City. Yue Nu was seeking the position of leader of Darkmoon City; even if he couldn't become a prince like Prince Farodis, he wanted to be called a Grand Lord, like Elisande.
