Soul magic is, in essence, necromancy.
This is a very mystical form of magic; the Titans and Old Gods have all studied it, and the Shadowlands is even built upon it, using anima (soul energy) as its primary driving force.
Even in the real world, it is incredibly powerful: the Lich King used it to create the Scourge army, Odin used it to create the Hall of Valor, and demigods used it to achieve immortality.
Gale also included it as one of the essential spells to learn, though its study was not prioritized.
According to Gale's original plan, he would only explore other magical systems after he had fully understood Arcane magic by utilizing the Well of Eternity's energy. Light, Nature, Shadow, and Necromancy were all part of his plan, but plans often go awry. He had barely grasped the general outline of Arcane magic when he successively encountered Shadow, Necromancy, and Light.
Meijia creating the spellbook was merely a catalyst that accelerated Gale's research into Hakkar's tail.
Once in the laboratory, Gale laid out all the bones from Hakkar's tail.
Seeing the divine power contained within the bones, Meijia was somewhat surprised. "My Lord, the divine power in these bones is too abundant. If I research them, it might be a waste..."
Gale pointed to the end of the tail. "You can start by researching the smaller bone fragments, and once you're familiar with the process, then move on to the larger ones."
Meijia quickly nodded, beginning the operation with excitement. However, he was a bit too excited, and his hands trembled slightly.
These were the bones of a loa! Research materials that countless Mages dreamed of.
Gale sensed his emotions, walked over, and instructed, "When doing research, you must concentrate fully. Overthinking will only affect your operation. With experiments involving divine power, even a slight operational error could lead to unforeseen consequences."
Meijia took a deep breath to calm himself and began to extract the divine power from the snake bones according to the standard operating procedures. Gale corrected his errors and standardized his movements until he became proficient, then returned to his own position.
He took out the eternal holy grail and placed it before him, extending his left hand to absorb Arcane Energy and using his right hand to cast Arcane Analysis.
Arcane Energy enveloped a piece of snake bone, extracting the divine power from it in all directions. Hakkar's divine power was very complex; most of it was Nature Energy, followed by Soul Energy and Blood Energy.
loa are a unique type of demigod; their ascent to demigod status relies not entirely on their own strength, but also on the power of faith. The power of faith is also a type of Soul Energy, which Gale speculated might be closer to anima.
When he researched Hydra Nash in the past, Gale had extracted a lot of Nature divine power. However, he had no research into Nature magic whatsoever, so he could only store the Nature divine power. It was still the same now; he could only wait until he learned Nature magic in the future to use this Nature divine power.
Nature divine power is the fundamental power of loa and demigods, just as the fundamental power of the Titans is Arcane divine power. Soul divine power and Blood divine power are Hakkar's unique powers, just as Light is to Aggramar.
These two energies are naturally intertwined with Hakkar, making them very difficult to separate. This is also why Gale needed to use the eternal holy grail; even with his micro-control, it required a long period of operation to achieve this.
Meijia, who had just finished extracting a small piece of snake tail bone, looked up and saw Gale's crude operation, filled with envy. He wondered when he would be able to use Arcane Analysis as simply and crudely as Gale.
Gale's treatise, "Micro-control Theory," stated that with diligent practice, any Mage could possess formidable micro-control techniques. The book also contained the weaving techniques for ether spirit, allowing the Mages to learn and practice them.
Thinking of this, Meijia couldn't help but speed up his movements.
After several days, Gale finally separated the Soul divine power and Blood divine power. The Blood divine power was also sealed away, leaving only the Soul divine power for analysis.
Analyzing divine power does not teach spells, but it allows one to grasp the primordial form of an inherent power. Mages, when learning a new energy spell, always start by imitating.
Initially, Gale couldn't capture lightning energy, so he couldn't cast lightning spells. He eventually managed to cast them by using the lightning atoms depicted in a book.
The origin of Soul Energy is even harder to capture; without a template, Gale would rack his brain and still not be able to imagine its appearance.
After analyzing it, Gale was a bit speechless.
Is it that simple?
The residual soul of Arthas that Anduin Wrynn saw was exactly what a soul atom looks like, just on a more microscopic level. Soul atoms, when accumulated, do not arrange themselves in a specific order like other atoms. The accumulation of soul atoms is a complete fusion; from atom to residual soul, it's all one state, merely a matter of strength.
Only when the residual soul is activated and gains sentience does it transform into a different form.
Gale attempted to create a residual soul, then infused it with some Life divine power, and subjected it to Arcane Baptism.
The residual soul gradually formed a face. It slowly opened its eyes, and upon seeing Gale first, it immediately flew up and affectionately rubbed against Gale's face, much like a newborn animal seeing its mother for the first time.
Although the word "mother" was a bit unfitting, Gale truly couldn't find any other way to describe this little sprite.
That's right, Gale had actually created a little sprite.
The sprite was very attached to him and never left his side. When Antalia came to deliver food and tried to get close to it, it wouldn't allow it.
Clearly, in its eyes, there was no gender.
Gale tried feeding it Soul Energy, and after a month, it grew to the size of a head. Gradually, it also became curious about what lay beyond the laboratory, occasionally darting out the door to observe the layout of the Mage Tower.
However, each time it went out, it would fly back in a few minutes and cling to Gale's side.
It wasn't until it encountered the children going to class that it curiously followed them. Then, it became captivated by the knowledge Sethonis was teaching; this kind of elementary instruction was perfectly suited for its nascent state.
It began to learn and play with the children. Gale also discovered its peculiarity: it was very slow at learning common knowledge, no different from a newborn. But when it came to learning magic, it was unbelievably fast.
Gale thought about it and found it perfectly natural. After all, it was created with divine power, so even if it was a sprite, it was a divine power sprite.
Just like Nezha, who was the reincarnation of a spirit pearl, born to be a god, there was a world of difference between him and ordinary children.
Since it was the world's first divine power sprite, Gale also wanted to see what it would become in the future. So he gave it a name: Aeon.
