The remaining Mist ninja were quickly eliminated. An Yan counted his forces and found that the ANBU had suffered casualties. Three of the newer members, lacking in skill, had not survived until he and Sakumo had dealt with the Seven Swordsmen.
An Yan's medical skills were not yet at the level of resurrecting the dead. He could only collect their remains.
The group left the domain space.
In Uzushio Village, the old clan leader had been struggling to maintain the barrier. When he suddenly saw all the enemy ninja disappear, he waited anxiously for a while before An Yan and his team emerged.
The Konoha reinforcements had arrived.
As a precaution, the village did not lower the barrier. The two groups had to communicate through it.
The rain was still drizzling, but the fiery domain had evaporated all the water that the Mist ninja had accumulated for their attacks, revealing the ground.
An Yan stood under his umbrella, quietly watching the Uzumaki clan leader approach, supported by his clansmen.
The vibrant red hair of the unknown clan leader had turned white from the massive expenditure of his life force.
"Are you really Konoha ninja?" the clan leader asked weakly, his eyes filled with hope.
An Yan nodded seriously. "We set out immediately after receiving Uzushio's emergency request. Fortunately, we were not too late."
There was no need to mention the internal debate about whether to rescue them or not.
"What proof do you have that you are from Konoha?" a young man supporting the clan leader asked.
An Yan took out an item from his clothes to prove his identity. It was a bracelet, a dowry that Mito Uzumaki had brought from her family, with a strong Uzumaki clan style.
"This is a dowry that Lady Mito Uzumaki, the wife of our village's First Hokage, Hashirama Senju, brought with her when she married. It should prove my identity. I am An Yan, a disciple taught by Grandma Mito herself."
The Uzumaki clan members looked at each other and nodded. Uzushio was also known as the Village of Longevity. The Uzumaki had a long lifespan, and some of the elders recognized the bracelet.
And so, An Yan and his team were invited into the village.
The old clan leader ordered tea to be served, but An Yan did not drink. He looked at the clan leader and said sincerely, "Time is of the essence. The Uzumaki clan is in grave danger. It was one thing when no major nation had attacked you, but now that the Mist has made a move, the other villages will be drawn here. A powerful sealing jutsu that can seal a tailed beast is exactly what they need. This will bring disaster upon you. We cannot guarantee that our rescue will always be timely. And the strength of a single clan can never stand against an entire village. Therefore, I suggest you consider moving the Uzumaki clan to Konoha."
The clan leader fell silent. He knew the danger of possessing a treasure. But the Land of Whirlpools had always been their home. It was hard to leave.
Seeing his silence, An Yan sighed and continued, "Lady Mito and Lord Tobirama are getting old. When the older generation is gone, no one in the younger generation will remember how close the Uzumaki and Konoha once were. This time, I led the rescue and have already lost three comrades. I don't know whose sons or husbands they were, but they died here to save the Uzumaki clan. Konoha cannot continue to sacrifice its elite forces to rescue you. The villagers will have opinions, and the Hokage will have to consider them. And if a Second Great Ninja War breaks out, Konoha will have its own hands full and will likely not have time to help you."
The clan leader sighed. "Joining Konoha is a major decision. The Uzumaki are not just a ninja clan, but also nobles. I must discuss this with my people."
The village of Uzushio, founded by the Uzumaki clan, may have been a small ninja village, but the daimyo of the Land of Whirlpools was also an Uzumaki. It was not easy to just abandon an entire country's foundation.
The Land of Whirlpools was one of the few countries where the ninja and the government were one and the same. All Uzumaki were nobles. If they left and joined Konoha, they would just be an ordinary ninja clan. That was why they hadn't joined Konoha when it was first founded.
But in An Yan's eyes, these were just empty titles. Many daimyo had been killed in the ninja world, let alone nobles. They were useless.
Just then, an ANBU member came to report.
"Lord An Yan, the reconnaissance team has spotted a Cloud ninja unit approaching. They are 40 kilometers away. Please decide whether to fight or retreat."
An Yan immediately crouched down, touched the ground, and began to sense.
"An entire squad is coming, 18 elite ninja. Everyone, prepare for battle."
The ANBU responded in unison.
"Please make a decision quickly. We are not in good condition after the battle with the Mist. We may not be able to win against the Cloud."
An Yan turned to the old clan leader.
The clan leader fell silent. The Uzumaki clan had only seven or eight Jonin, and they were all sealing jutsu specialists with relatively weak combat abilities.
These great nations were always sending twenty or thirty Jonin to bully them. It was infuriating.
The clan leader gritted his teeth and made a decision. They would move to Konoha immediately. To hell with their ancestral home. The people were more important.
"All Uzumaki, assemble immediately! Prepare to evacuate!"
At the clan leader's command, the villagers of Uzushio sprang into action, using their sealing jutsu to pack up their belongings.
An Yan even saw someone sealing up their pots and pans. These people had really incorporated sealing jutsu into their very bones.
Ninja are fast. In less than three minutes, everyone was assembled. An Yan glanced around. There were about a thousand people. The adults were holding their children, with the women, children, and civilians in the center, and the Uzumaki ninja on the outside.
An Yan nodded and brought them all into his domain space. The fire domain was quite large, enough to accommodate so many people. It was just a little bright and dry.
After gathering the Uzumaki, An Yan looked at his ANBU subordinates, mainly at Sakumo.
"The Cloud ninja will be here soon. Should we pretend to be the Mist and ambush them before we leave, or should we just retreat?"
He had no Flying Thunder God markers on the way here, but one was all he needed to get back.
Now, An Yan could fight or flee as he pleased. No one could stop him.
