Chapter 88 - Forsaken

Night time soon dawned upon the enforcers of the AEOC. The galaxy shone above them brighter than the sun. Below, the earth was cast down by a dark shade which signaled the time of slumber. Only ten individuals wearing black outfits which made them blend into the night stood. Among them was Major's team which had been assigned today since Arthur was out of commission.

Major yawned. "What time is it?"

Elke pulled his sleeve, checking his watch. "Almost midnight."

Major put his hands behind his head. "We still got half the night…"

"Yeah…I'm getting too tired, man. I…want to sleep so badly."

"Me too." Major smiled. "But what can we do? We've got to keep the others safe. We're enforcers after all."

"I guess…" Elke grumbled.

"Alright, I'll head out. Good luck!"

Elke watched Major's back through the night-vision. After he vanished from his vision, he sighed and straightened.

'Let's check the surrounding. I don't want to get scolded by the lieutenant general.'

As the clock struck twelve, Elke began his survey – not knowing what was awaiting him.

Jasper was proactive in his search. He peeked around every nook and cranny, acting like a spy from the movies he had seen.

'Man…this is so boring.'

He crouched down and tugged the grass. He heard the clock embedded in his glasses tick.

'It's midnight already?'

He questioned, standing up and blinking. He groaned and looked around the camp, seeing no danger. Then, it started once again… He got crushed to the ground, his face eating the dirt. An immense pressure pushed him down as well as crushed the tents.

'What t-the hell…?'

He strained and gazed forward, seeing the crushed tents. As he felt his bones begin to crack and muscles tear under the pressure, his shadow damped. He moved around and halted in front of him. He stared in shock as the shadow transformed into humanoid figure. The figure crouched down and lifted Jasper's chin as his eyes began to bleed.

"You're a different one…and neither did you bring the second sun."

Then, it disappeared and everything returned to normal? The tents weren't crushed and neither was he face-first on the ground nor was he hurt. He patted his body, making sure he was okay.

"W-What the fuck?" He blurted as cold sweat rolled down his face.

***

'It's mid night time, isn't it?'

Major thought while holding a piece of grass in his mouth. He stared into the night sky, overflowing with stars and constellation. He grinned, mesmerized by its beauty.

'It's always such an amazing sight to see.'

As he was taking in the calm breeze, red eyes began surrounding him. Noticing this almost instantly, he took a stance and unsheathed his katana. He narrowed his eyes to a slit, spitting the grass. He could also sense shadow figures creeping in the corners of his eyes, just out of his vision.

'W-W-What a-are they…?'

Fear engulfed him like a past shadow. Hyper intense emotions surged through his body as he looked at the eyes who neither approached nor retreated.

'Wait-wait! These types of intense emotions are only in…dreams!'

At that moment, he realized he was hallucination and, in that instance, reality cracked, spilling int known and unknown colors. He awoke back in the real world without having his katana unsheathed.

"Fewh…but what the hell was that?"

Right then, a laugh sounded from behind him. He stiffened, feeling a presence right behind himself.

"You're a smart one…" The voice commented. "I'll let you go for this one time…"

He vanished without a trace. Major spun around, trying to find it but couldn't. After, his head ached heavily and then…he fell unconscious.

Elke happily strolled around the camp, passing by enforcers. Then, he met Frank.

"Hey, man! How are you feeling?"

"Tired." Frank replied, honestly.

"Aren't we all?"

The duo laughed and shook each other's hands.

"Anyway, I'll see you later."

Elke left Frank with smile. He scanned the area carefully, searching for any danger. He didn't find anything so he continued walking. Elke hummed to a melody while he rounded the camp. Passing by the tents he heard the snores of his fellow enforcers which he shrugged off casually. After a while of walking, he realized he had gone off course and ended up in the forest.

'Shit…where's the camp?'

Elke looked in every direction but found nothing. Just then, a voice echoed throughout the forest that sent chills down his spine.

"Child…do you know where the second sun resides?"

Elke flinched, swinging his fist. Instinctively, he blurted out in a surprised tone.

"Who the hell are you? I don't know what a 'second sun' is?"

The voice spoke again, now more probing. "Come one, child…I know you want to spill it."

"I told you once and I not telling you again! I don't know the second sun and who the fuck are you?"

The voice clicked its tongue, annoyed. "Forget it."

It snapped and reality spit open to the real world. Elke was nowhere near the camp. He frantically looked around and began running, sensing something was about to happen. The voice spoke again – angrier.

"First – respect your elders."

The shadow of a tree stretched and tripped him. He fell forward, rolling onto the ground.

"Second – who said you could talk back?"

As he tried to stand up…his legs were cut off. His pupils dilated and he fell again. He felt the warmth of his own blood pooling, the world narrowing. He felt death approaching him rapidly, his body straining as he felt a presence approaching. He pushed himself up, still trying to resist but the figure lifted him up by the neck.

"Time to teach you lesson, don't you think?"

Seeing a large dark aura surrounding the demonic figure like a hurricane, Elke soon realized the disparity of the situation Tears poured from his eyes and his voice crack as he clasped his hands – begging.

"Please spare me…I-I'm sorry…I won't tell anyone about you…please…"

The figure laughed loudly, his demonic yet cruel voice echoing throughout the forest.

"Spare you now? Spare you? You think I'm merciful enough to let a disrespectful brat off the hook?"

"P-Please…I'm begging you." Elke cried, saying with a cracking voice.

The figure raised his hand, aiming it at Elke's neck. He shot his hand forward. Elke's life flashed before his eyes in an instant as his vision faded to darkness…
