Chapter 11 - Lupine vs Vulpine

Phoenix

After wolfing down all three bags of food, rehydrating and a quick bathroom break, Lillian jumped back into the game. Her experience with the Alpha Shadow Wolf had taught her two things. Be prepared for any challenge and sometimes a little guidance goes a long way. Preparing was her top priority at the moment. If Chelsea really were to enter her domain, she needed to be ready to lend support. Although most of the animals were docile in her presence, the same may not be true for any outsiders that were to wander in. Swallowing her guilt about doing so, she hunted.

It didn't take long for her to understand just how overpowered her skills were while hunting beasts twice her level. By the tenth level 20 Great Stag, her level had shot up from level 5 to level 20 and she had enough pelts and golden antlers in her inventory to make two sets of two-star gear. Soon she would need to seek out stronger opponents. The more challenging the hunt was, the more experience she would gain.

She paused for a moment to check her map. To the west of the lake, the wilderness held dappling of caves and dens throughout the clearings where large predators like giant bears with huge deposits of various gems growing from their backs and huge wild cats that dissolved into their surroundings roamed. A few miles south from there, fire foxes with fiery felts of reds, oranges, blues, and purples would compete with one another for food and other resources. A sight to behold, and one she had only seen briefly while combing through the dense wooded landscape. That's the direction she raced to.

Upon reaching the edge of the desired clearing, she witnessed the sleek, elegant vulpine dart from small dens concealed by thick, tangled roots of the ancient trees much like the rest of the forest. Each one zoomed around like a brightly glowing comet in a different color, either hunting something smaller like a hare, or chasing each other in a playful manner. She even found an orange fox screaming at a purple one while they bickered.

While watching these curious, feisty little canines she remembered what Chelsea had asked her to do before she had rushed off. She opened the chat room resulting in a tidal wave of messages flooding into the text window. So noisy. Tapping on the [search] icon, she searched [Lira], and selected the name when it showed up.

[Add to friend list]

[Yes] / [No]

She selected yes. [Lira has been added as a friend.]

With that done, she used her Polymorph skill to change her appearance into a mystical silver wolf with light celtic blue eyes. The fur covering her body shined brightly like the full moon reflecting the radiance of the sun. The ones closest to her location stopped what they were doing. The heat from their pelts increasing in temperature as they caught scent of the intruder. The fox with the lowest level among them was a bright red fox at level 30. It was also the closest to her. The vulpine's tail stood straight, eyes the color of amber burned white. It screamed and growled in challenge, the inside of its wide gaping mouth a bright blazing yellow.

[Orange Comet Firefox Level 30 is challenging you]

Phoenix pulled her lip back in a snarl, baring her teeth like sharpened knifes. That was enough to provoke the fox into leaping at her, its own sharp teeth glowing like molten steel as it came at her. She ducked down and slammed her head under its ribcage, then flicked her head, throwing it into the air a few feet before it hit the ground with a yip. The impact from the fall barely dealt 10% of damage to the fireball of a fox, but it was enough to stir half the group into a rage. Now Orange Comet foxes in the level 35 range and Blue Comet foxes in the level 40 range were joining the fight.

Good. Let's handle this quickly.

"Arooooooo"

[Call of the Wild has been activated]

[Four MoonSilver Wolves have answered your call.]

Like the prompt announced, four wild wolves joined her, all of them sporting silver fur much like herself, yet lacked the shine from her Moon's Blessing ability.

She waited until the cluster of foxes that chose not to fight returned to the safety of their dens, then commanded an attack on the hostile foxes, pouncing into the fray herself. The clearing became a sea of fire and light as the two species clashed. Fangs and claws tearing at each other in the frenzy of heated battle.

By the end of the fight, twenty foxes between levels 30 through 42 were defeated. Her level increased to level 40, and comet fire pelts of red, orange and blue littered the area along with 12 burning comet stones. She changed back to her human form after dismissing her lupine support, then gathered up the scattered resources. Once the space was clear and everything was packed into her inventory, she knelt in the middle of the clearing. Sorrow weighed heavily on her as she opened her map. She had to remind herself that everything she hunted would respawn within a day, but it only helped a small margin. Even so, it was time to leave for bear territory. She got back up, brushed off her clothes, and began her travel north.
