Chapter 10 - Opening World

Phoenix

With Moon's Blessing's added ability maybe there was a way to complete this challenge. The large shadow wolf froze mid-step as she got to her feet. Its body tensed, nostrils flaring, lips curling in a snarl. Those evil red eyes burned with hatred and rage. Before the savage thing had been toying with her, distracting her from her goal. Now, it was responding to a threat. All it took was one step forward. Anger melted into confusion, its thunderous growls silenced. She reached out her hand to touch it massive head. The wolf's eyes widened in terror. This time, the shadowy being was tangible under her palm. Her whisper came out serene and soothing. "That's enough."

Their eyes met. Blood red faded to tranquil blue. Black shadows brightened to glowing silver. Then the beast shattered into motes of light. The sky changed back to midday.

Elder Flynn hobbled to her side. Approval gleamed in his wise, knowledgeable eyes. Within his hand he presented a multi-faceted crystal. Lights of many different colors danced in kaleidoscoping patterns beneath its surface. She tenderly took the gem, feeling a buzz of energy coursing through her palm that radiated from it. "Now you are ready to begin your journey. When the time comes, you'll know how to use it."

[You have obtained a Lunar Crystal]

[A crystal with mysterious light, its origin is unknown]

She opened her inventory and placed the crystal with the safe empty space where it would not be lost.

Suddenly, the red alert screen flashed across her vision, startling her. A quick log out command later and her mind immediately returned to reality. An insistent knocking at her door filled her ears, followed by a familiar feminine voice. "Hey, Lily. Are you in there?" Chelsea?

Lillian jumped out of bed, returning her visor to the desk. A few long strides, a turn of the lock and she opened the door to find the petite woman standing at her door. In one hand she had three bags of take out from the cafeteria. In the other hand she held a six pack of water. Lillian cocked her head to the side in confusion eyeing the three bags.

"Girl, you missed lunch and you never came out to get a drink. I didn't know what you liked so I got a few different things." Chelsea lifted the bags of food to her face in offering. The smell of a hamburger and fries wafted from one bag, fried fish tickled her nose from the second one. The last one smelled grilled chicken strips season with garlic, onion and black pepper. "Can I come in?"

Lillian welcomed Chelsea into the room, closing the door behind her. Lillian watched the smaller women neatly arrange the three bags and water around her visor on the little wooden desk. "So what would you like first? Chicken, fish or beef?"

By the time Chelsea looked up to face her, Lillian had already decided, reached the desk and plucked up the bag with the hamburger. Next, she swiped her nails across the plastic pulled taut over the water bottles slicing it cleanly open, freeing the bottles in the process. "Thanks for the meal."

As Lillian sat on the bed, fishing out the sandwich, Chelsea stood there flabbergasted, working her jaw like she was trying to decide what to ask first. In the she closed her mouth, shaking her head. A sip of water and a few bites later, Chelsea broke the silence. "Earlier today it was announced that a new region was added to the game at the last minute. I think I want to check it out."

Lillian froze, she just sunk her teeth halfway through the burger and her mouth went dry. She chewed carefully, then swallowed. Maybe it's a different location. I'm almost afraid to ask. Sure. It was wishful thinking but it could be possible. Right? "Did they happen the say the name of this new region?"

Chelsea stared at the floor, mauling it over. "I think it was called Twisted Root Forest. Do you know anything about it?"

Yep. Saw that one coming. Lillian's ears twitched, but there was no point in trying to cover up the forest's existence now. "I may have looked into it a bit. You should be careful going in there. There's no telling what all you might run into."

Chelsea's big brown eyes lit up. "What if you and I explore the forest together. I bet you and I can handle things that comes out way." Punched the air, pretending to fight off some imaginary monster. "Just look up Lira in the chat and I'll see you soon."

Lillian didn't even have the chance to speak before Chelsea rushed out of the tiny room. She sighed, ears drooping. This was going to be a long day.
