"Thanks for the ride," I said, not exactly thrilled, avoiding Jin's eyes when he insisted on dropping me off here.
I could tell he wanted to ask—what I was doing in this neighborhood, why I hadn't wanted him to drive me to the hospital earlier—but he didn't. He was polite like that. Another reason I didn't want him involved.
I was fine. The doctor said all I needed was rest and food. Basically, a staycation.
"If you need a ride anytime, just call me, okay?"
I nodded, though we both knew I wouldn't. My body had been stiff the entire ride, and stepping out of his car felt like learning how to walk again.
"Take care of yourself," Jin said before his Mercedes rolled away down the drive.
I waved, watching the taillights disappear before turning toward the gates. One of the guards flashed a light directly in my face even though the night lights were on.
"It's Stephanie," I said, squinting.
He lowered the flashlight. "Stephanie? Why are you coming back this late?"
