Chapter 46 - Stephanie: Lacrosse Is NOT For The Weak

"Are you okay?"

The sound came out muffled, like I was underwater. It took a few seconds before my vision cleared, revealing fifteen faces hovering over me.

"Is she alive?"

"She's probably having a concussion."

"Miss," the coach's face came into view, squinting at me. "How many fingers am I holding up?"

I blinked, my lashes heavy. "Ten."

He sighed. "Someone please take her to the infirmary." His eyes scanned the crowd before landing on Hayden.

"Why are you looking at me?" Hayden asked, as if the suggestion offended him.

"Because you're the only guy here," the coach replied flatly.

I had expected to see boys when I joined the Lacrosse club, but every single player was a girl—tall, muscular, confident. The kind that lived in the gym and probably bench-pressed their boyfriends.

I was knocked down by one of them earlier, and for a moment, I actually thought I saw stars. Lacrosse wasn't for the weak, and if I had known it was this intense, I would never have joined.
