Chapter 89 - Political Wisdom

Watching the convoy slowly drive past, Li Qingyuan finally emerged from the bushes.

At this hour, there were still vampires daring to wander around outside?

Every window on those cars was completely sun-proofed — even the front windshield was tinted. There was no mistaking it; those were vampire-exclusive vehicles.

He watched as the convoy drove straight into Victor's Manor, parking in the shade.

As the main base of the vampires, Victor's estate was covered in sun shelters everywhere. Even now, under the setting sun, quite a few vampires lounged comfortably in the shadows, enjoying the mild autumn breeze.

A dozen or so men and women stepped out of the cars — every single one of them was stunningly attractive. Even among normal humans, any of them could pass as a model. It was clear that, much like elves, vampires as a race had a natural advantage in charm.

Add to that their extraordinary strength and lifespans spanning hundreds or even thousands of years… if the vampires in Underworld didn't have such low growth potential, even Li Qingyuan might have been tempted.

After all, ever since obtaining his system, he had already accepted that he would never again be a "normal" human being.

Soon, a group from inside the castle came out to greet the new arrivals. After a brief exchange of pleasantries, they all went inside together.

Even though they'd stayed in the shadows the entire time, it seemed vampires still preferred to talk indoors.

Li Qingyuan hid the missile launcher back in the undergrowth and returned to his car, deep in thought.

Those vampires entering the manor just now — that must be the delegation.

In the Underworld universe, the first vampire was Marcus, son of Alexander Corvinus, and the first werewolf was his brother William.

The two shared an incredibly close bond — practically inseparable.

However, the wolf that bit William had rabies, turning him into a mad beast.

To contain his deranged brother, Marcus sought help from two powerful warlords of the time. He bestowed vampiric power upon them — and thus, the vampire race was born.

Marcus, Victor, and Amelia, who was stationed in America, became the Three Vampire Elders, founding the Covenant of the Ancients — the ruling council of all vampires worldwide.

To prevent infighting, they devised a peculiar system: each Elder would rule for a century, while the other two entered hibernation.

Li Qingyuan couldn't help but marvel — what kind of screenwriter came up with that? If even one Elder got ambitious, wouldn't it be easy to kill the other two while they slept?

Still, regardless of the logic, the system worked — the "rotating elder" setup was still in effect.

The group he'd just seen must have been Amelia's entourage, arriving early to prepare for the power transition.

According to the timeline, the day after tomorrow would mark Amelia's slumber and Marcus's awakening. So it made perfect sense for her people to show up early.

And if Li Qingyuan remembered correctly, any minute now, Selene, the female lead, would be storming out of the manor to hunt down Michael.

He decided: he'd capture the male and female leads first — then blow up the manor.

After all, without Selene, he had no way to track the werewolves or Michael's whereabouts.

About an hour later, a car sped out of the estate. Despite the speed, Li Qingyuan caught a clear glimpse of the driver — a tight black combat suit hugging every curve.

He couldn't help but wonder — that skin-tight latex battle suit seemed to be a single piece from top to bottom. What would she do in… certain situations?

And that suit wasn't ordinary either — probably enchanted or tech-enhanced. Bullets and blades couldn't damage it. It must've been airtight too… so what if Selene ate too many beans? Wouldn't she become a walking biological weapon?

Chuckling at his own ridiculous thoughts, Li Qingyuan flicked a wasp toward her car.

He didn't dare use insect vision sharing again, but using a bug for tracking was child's play.

Selene, spotting the car by the roadside, only gave it a passing glance. The area around Victor's Manor was scenic, and tourists often drove by to admire it. As long as they didn't trespass, the vampires turned a blind eye.

After all, "a rabbit doesn't eat the grass around its burrow" — the vampires wouldn't taint their home turf with needless killings. That would only draw attention.

"Alright then, I'll let you all live another day," Li Qingyuan muttered, turning the wheel toward the city.

Night had already fallen. Blowing up the castle now would just scatter the vampires into the dark. It would be smarter to strike tomorrow morning.

For now, his priority was tailing Selene and finding Michael Corvinus.

Even if the so-called "Perfect Blood" wouldn't do much for him, he refused to leave an assignment world empty-handed.

After all, back on the Titanic, he'd casually walked away with the Heart of the Ocean. There was no way he'd pass up loot now!

Wait a second… where did he put that gem again?

Trailing Selene's car from a distance, Li Qingyuan zoned out, replaying the movie's plot in his head.

In this world, vampires and werewolves were mortal enemies — a feud that would never end.

Selene, as a Death Dealer, was part of an elite vampire unit tasked with exterminating werewolves. The night before, she'd sensed something was wrong at the train station — the lycans were clearly hunting someone — but he had interfered, disrupting their mission.

She'd since hacked into the Budapest police database through the Coven's system, pulling surveillance footage to identify the target the werewolves were after: Michael Corvinus, a surgeon.

Rejecting an invitation to Amelia's banquet, Selene chose instead to investigate this mysterious man.

It was worth noting that when the Covenant still held power, vampires maintained close ties with high-ranking human officials. Selene's ability to hack directly into government systems through the Coven's network was proof of that.

Unlike ordinary vampires, the Three Elders had once been powerful feudal lords, masters of politics and manipulation. They knew human intrigue inside and out.

But once the Elders all perished, the vampires lost their protection among human elites — falling from noble aristocrats to hunted monsters.
