Sophie could no longer leave the plane on her own — she had to be wheeled out in a chair. In the car, despite the doctor's efforts, her weakness only grew stronger, and he insisted on using a stretcher. And so she entered the luxurious mansion lying down, able only to notice the stucco on the ceiling and the mirror in the elevator that carried her to the third floor. The faces of the many people who came to meet her flickered past without leaving any impression.
She woke up a day later. David told her the plan of action for the near future. According to him, resuscitation specialists with the necessary equipment were on duty in the next room. For now, their help wasn't needed — her blood pressure had been raised with medication. A helicopter was also always on standby, he assured her, as he quickly adjusted to the role of billionaire. It was just fifteen minutes to the hospital by air.
Some of the tests and examinations she would undergo at home. For others, she would have to travel. Doctor Chow would accompany her everywhere with his resuscitation kit, and Professor Linda Bjorklund would soon arrive to meet and examine the patient.
Sophie managed to find the strength to get up and eat. She even liked the black caviar. The bread was crisp and still warm — clearly baked just a few hours earlier.
On her phone Sophie found several messages from Anna. In this reality they had studied together and had even chosen the same specialty — anesthesiology. Her classmate wanted to visit her once she was feeling better.
David's office was in the next room. He worked from home now, so he could be by her side at all times.
Sophie dutifully submitted to the tests and talked with the kind Professor Bjorklund and with Doctor Chow, who by now felt like part of the family. But deep down she believed all these efforts were useless. She had already begun to suspect what was truly behind her illness.
