A/N: Dropping this one. It's gotten stale and boring.
GTAG Chapter 102 Forbidden Knowledge
But this was not the deepest despair.
From the smoking crater of the explosion, Triangle Head dragged its shattered body forward.
It hadn't died.
Even a Jaeger's self-destruction couldn't kill it. What kind of power could possibly finish the job?
The crippled beast limped toward the city.
Onlookers who had stayed to witness the battle with their own eyes now regretted everything.
Panic erupted. Screams, curses, and the chaos of stampedes filled the streets. People were trampled underfoot, crushed into pulp as the mob surged toward shelters.
Three Jaegers had already been destroyed. The others were still en route.
And now—nothing stood in Triangle Head's way.
Everyone understood. The city was doomed.
No city survived once a kaiju made landfall without being repelled. What remained was always ruin.
But this time, something was different.
Triangle Head did not thrash the city apart at random. It moved with purpose, dragging itself in a straight line.
Its path led directly toward a looming volcano.
Mount Fuji.
That was its true destination, though none yet realized it.
The city it passed through was left scarred, gouged by its passage as though clawed open from the inside.
Even without deliberate destruction, the casualties and losses were catastrophic.
Some people, strangely, even sighed in relief—better this than total annihilation.
But the monster's strange behavior quickly drew attention.
For twenty years, every kaiju's only goal had been to attack humanity's cities, destroying all in their path.
This one was different.
It had a purpose beyond blind destruction.
That should have been impossible. None of the kaiju before had ever shown such intelligence.
Unless… something was drawing it.
Triangle Head didn't care for human confusion. It limped onward, inexorably.
Inside a private villa, Newton watched the live broadcast in silence.
"Is this fate?" he muttered.
More than ten years ago, Newton had abandoned all research on Godzilla.
After linking his mind with the brain of a proliferating creature, he had awoken with forbidden knowledge—detailed blueprints for twisting human beings into grotesque hybrids, neither man nor monster.
Horrified, Newton sealed away all his research, never daring to open that door.
For one misstep could spell extinction for humanity. He could not bear the thought of becoming mankind's greatest sinner.
But seeing Triangle Head crawl forth again, Newton felt the weight of inevitability. The secrets he carried would not stay hidden forever.
The knowledge whispered to him like a devil, urging him to open the door to the abyss.
Already it was warping him.
When he looked at the monster on the screen, his first instinct had been to capture it—experiment on it, splice it with Godzilla's cells, and forge it into a living weapon.
That thought terrified him.
If he could think such things about a kaiju, how long before he turned the same methods on humanity itself?
Meanwhile, Triangle Head pressed onward. Despite its grievous wounds, its pace was relentless.
Before long, it reached the base of Mount Fuji and began to climb.
Even the dullest minds now realized the truth—Fuji was its goal.
But why?
Did it intend to trigger an eruption, to annihilate the entire island nation?
And if so, how?
Whatever the means, humanity could not allow it to reach the summit.
If it succeeded, the consequences would be apocalyptic.
Still, a morbid curiosity gnawed at many.
The whir of rotor blades drew Triangle Head's gaze upward. Two Jaegers were being lowered in by helicopters—rushed in from other cities.
More were coming, but these two were first on the scene.
Their pilots' hearts pounded with dread.
They had seen what Triangle Head could do.
Even crippled, even half-dead, its power was monstrous.
And unlike veterans hardened by real battles, they had only ever trained, never faced death this closely.
That fear could drag their performance even lower than the three who had already perished.
But they had no choice.
Triangle Head was already halfway up the mountain. Delay any longer, and it would reach the summit unopposed.
They had to hold the line.
Just a few minutes. If they could endure, reinforcements would arrive, and together they could end the beast.
Yet in choosing how to fight, they had already sealed their fate.
…
Triangle Head's roar rasped through the air, so weak it seemed it might die any second.
Bleeding and broken, it faced two pristine sixth-generation Jaegers. By any measure, this was a battle it could not survive.
And yet, the two Jaegers hesitated.
They did not press the attack. Instead, they stood guard, blocking its path but refusing to strike first—so long as Triangle Head did not climb higher.
For fully armed war machines, their timidity was shameful.
Online, criticism exploded.
The island nation's people cursed them outright.
On one side stood two undamaged Jaegers, bristling with weaponry. On the other, a monster drenched in blood, but still full of malice.
The outcome, once certain, was now clouded with doubt.
When the Jaegers first appeared, the world believed the kaiju's end had come.
Now, no one was sure.
And what came next would terrify them even more.
