Chapter 99 - GTAG Chapter 99: Triangle Head

GTAG Chapter 99: Triangle Head

Ever since the monster crawled out of the wormhole, it had been swimming in the oceans for days.

For several days in a row, it had not encountered Godzilla's trace.

In theory, the moment it appeared on this planet, Godzilla should have already sensed its presence and eliminated it.

Unless… that alien monster which had once inflicted such terrible losses upon them was no longer within his territory.

The Precursors recalled how they had destroyed all the "factories" on that colonial world. If the alien beast lacked the power to open wormholes, then it must still be trapped there. Unfortunately, since they had detonated all of their assets on that planet before abandoning it, there was no way to confirm this guess.

But their monster had roamed freely in Earth's oceans for so long, without the alien beast reacting at all. It really seemed like it wasn't here.

If that was the case, then things would be much simpler.

The kaiju stopped its aimless wandering and began swimming with purpose.

After so much time exploring Earth and deploying countless monsters, the Precursors had mapped out this world's geography in detail.

And the monster's destination was the island nation.

Why? Because that island held one of the world's largest active volcanoes. But more importantly… it was small. A smaller territory meant weaker defenses, and weaker defenses meant a greater chance of success.

The Precursors could already picture the terrified faces of the natives once the monster came ashore.

Yet when it landed, the Precursors quickly realized that reality wasn't as expected.

Why were these humans not terrified? Why did they look… excited?

The moment the monster's head rose from the sea and appeared in their line of sight, Earth's people were stunned.

Most ordinary citizens had never truly believed kaiju could appear.

But then, their shock shifted to exhilaration.

Did this mean they would finally witness real mecha hunters battling a monster, not just in movies?

The TV networks understood exactly what the audience wanted.

As the monster surfaced, countless helicopters scrambled into the air, broadcasting live coverage of the event.

In the city where the monster chose to make landfall, young people climbed rooftops and tall buildings, phones and cameras in hand, live-streaming with shining eyes full of excitement.

But the elders…

The moment they saw the creature's form, buried memories of terror surged back.

Even after twenty years, the instinct burned into their DNA remained sharp.

They moved quickly, calmly, into the nearest underground shelters, practiced motions smooth as flowing water, with no trampling or panic.

Still, those who sought shelter were the minority.

Most believed in the three towering mechs standing at the city's edge.

All three were sixth-generation Jaegers, loaded with devastating weaponry—walking war machines.

Yet in sheer size, they were dwarfed by the kaiju.

As the beast approached, people finally saw its full form.

It stood around 120 meters tall, armored in jagged plates. Its hind legs were massive and powerful, while its body carried three pairs of forelimbs—one set of arms and two sets of smaller auxiliary limbs. Behind it dragged a long, heavy tail tipped with a curved scythe, glinting with a cold light that promised lethality.

Its triangular head bore three pairs of eyes and a gaping maw packed with serrated fangs, drooling streams of corrosive acid.

The moment it appeared, it gained a fanbase of its own.

Monster enthusiasts' eyes lit up, and toy companies immediately issued orders to begin designing figures and models. They were sure this one would sell out.

Though classified as a Category Six kaiju like the Jaegers it faced, the Precursors had enhanced it greatly. It was more than a match for most of its rank, essentially a mini-boss among kaiju.

The island nation quickly named it "Triangle Head" and declared the battle to exterminate it.

From past encounters, they knew kaiju blood was dangerously toxic. They couldn't risk this monster reaching the city.

The three Jaegers advanced into the sea.

One faced Triangle Head head-on, while the other two spread out, forming a flanking maneuver.

Three against one. The advantage was theirs.

Nearly everyone watching believed victory was certain.

Except the retired Jaeger pilots.

Though old, some bedridden, their experience remained sharp.

The moment they laid eyes on the kaiju, instinct kicked in, analyzing its fighting potential.

And what they saw troubled them.

This beast wasn't simple.

If it had been their generation, with hardened veterans at the controls, three against one would have been enough for a flawless victory.

But today's pilots were untested youths, lacking the brutal experience of life-and-death combat.

Could they really handle such a foe?

The veterans sent warnings up the chain of command, urging caution.

But their advice went unheeded.

Some foreign officials even hoped Triangle Head would prove too strong—believing the island nation had grown arrogant and needed a lesson.

So, under the thrilled gazes of the masses and the worried eyes of a few, mechs and monster finally clashed.

Triangle Head's six eyes gave it a panoramic view. Every Jaeger, whether in front or on its flanks, was caught in its gaze.

Yet after a quick glance at the two flanking machines, it focused all three pairs of eyes on the blue-and-white Jaeger directly ahead.

Its gaze locked, as if searching for a flaw.
