Aegon liked Xavier and knew he wasn't in the wrong. Sure, he was impulsive, but this side of him only came out when he wanted to help others. If only he wasn't the Crown Prince, this wouldn't have been an issue at all.
Even Cali understood this, but just because she understood didn't mean she would go along with it blindly.
"With me and Luna by his side, he can be a good King," Cali said stubbornly. "We'll protect him and cover for him."
"What is he? A baby?" Aegon retorted. "Try to understand the situation, Cali. What if this was all a trap, huh? What if they somehow forced him into signing that contract by taking that newbie as hostage? You and I both know what he would have done in that situation."
Cali turned silent instantly.
Aegon turned toward Xavier and forced him to look up. "Listen carefully. If you make mistakes, you'll always find me there to back you up. But I'll also beat the shit out of you afterward."
