Silence!
Absolute silence!
When Silas admitted that the rampaging Tyranitar was his Pokémon, every single person present was left speechless.
Tyranitar's rampage had left a deep scar in everyone's mind, and the idea that such a savage Pokémon could actually belong to a ten-year-old kid? That was something nobody could wrap their heads around.
"You… you…" Officer Jenny stared wide-eyed in disbelief. "You're not joking, are you?"
"No." Silas gave a wry nod.
Once she got that confirmation, Officer Jenny exploded. Her voice rose as she scolded, "If that's your Pokémon, why didn't you keep it under control? You realize your Tyranitar has committed multiple criminal offenses? And it's not just Tyranitar—the trainer is responsible, too!"
Silas could only smile bitterly.
If someone else had provoked him, or if he even had a sliver of justification, he might have talked back. But this time, he really had nothing to stand on—so he just let Officer Jenny lecture him, quietly hoping this would at least put him in her good books when it came to negotiating things down at the station.
BANG!
Just as Officer Jenny was about to keep chewing Silas out, a Blastoise came flying out of the store, shooting right over Officer Jenny's shoulder and smashing her flat to the ground, ending up with its head spinning, sprawled out right on top of her!
"Uh…" Staring at the Blastoise pinning Officer Jenny down, Silas's smile was about to turn to tears. "Are you… okay?"
"What do you think?!" Officer Jenny glared at Silas through gritted teeth. "You think this looks 'okay' to you?!"
"Got it." Silas nodded furiously, like a chicken pecking rice, and dashed into the store. "I'll go deal with Tyranitar right now!"
"Oh, come on…" Watching him go, even Officer Jenny, who usually kept her cool, couldn't help cursing under her breath. "At least help me up first!"
...
Inside the Department Store.
The jewelry counter was a disaster zone.
Several Pokémon were sprawled across the floor, clearly knocked out cold. Over in one corner, a whole group of police officers were huddled together, visibly shaking as they stared at a very busy Tyranitar still devouring diamonds.
"Tyranitar!"
Apparently sensing someone approach, Tyranitar spun around and let out another roar.
But the instant it saw Silas, the roar caught in its throat and it lowered its head, looking for all the world like a guilty child. "Sorry… I was just too hungry. When I caught the scent of food, I just lost control."
Seeing Tyranitar looking so miserable, Silas's heart softened. Come to think of it, Tyranitar had already done so much for him. This whole mess wasn't what Tyranitar wanted; it was like a starving person suddenly let loose in a buffet—who wouldn't lose it? Plus… what kind of trainer lets their Pokémon go hungry in the first place?
He let out a sigh and asked, "You full now? Or still want more?"
"I'm still a little hungry…" Tyranitar admitted, dropping its head even lower.
"Then keep eating," Silas said with a gentle laugh. "If you're still not satisfied, we'll hit up the next store!"
Tyranitar's eyes immediately lit up and it began sweeping up the remaining diamonds, wolfing them down.
Watching this, Silas smiled and turned to the trembling police officers nearby, speaking gently, "Don't worry, I'm here now. Tyranitar won't hurt anyone else. He just wants to fill his stomach. So, would you mind stepping outside and calling Officer Jenny and the store manager in? I need to speak with them."
"O-okay, we're on it!"
In less than a minute, Officer Jenny came in with a furious-looking man in a suit.
When Officer Jenny saw Tyranitar still scarfing down gems and Silas making no attempt to stop him, she immediately snapped, "What do you think you're doing? Why aren't you stopping Tyranitar?!"
"Why should I?" Silas cocked his head, genuinely puzzled.
"Why should you?!" That pushed Officer Jenny over the edge. She seethed, "Because this isn't your property! You have no right to let your Tyranitar eat it—if you turn a blind eye, then—"
"I'll just buy the lot." Silas cut her off and turned to the manager. "Go ahead and tally up the damages. I'll foot the whole bill."
The manager's eyes immediately lit up.
With Officer Jenny here, he had zero worries of being swindled—Silas offering to pay meant all the responsibility was off his shoulders. In fact, he'd just made his biggest sale ever—his commission was going to be massive!
His angry scowl instantly melted into a fawning grin. "Why don't we wait until Tyranitar's finished eating before we total everything up?"
"Whatever works for you." Silas nodded along.
Once the disaster at the jewelry store was handled, Silas turned to face the fuming Officer Jenny, flashing his Elite Four badge: "I'll cover everyone's medical costs. As for Tyranitar's 'crimes'… can we call it even?"
Elite Four badge?!
Officer Jenny's eyes widened, then her temper flared hotter than ever.
Normally, she might have let things slide for an Elite Four, but Silas had just pulled the exact spoiled-rich-kid move she detested most. No way she'd let this go.
She glared daggers at him. "No way."
No way?
Silas frowned. That wasn't how this was supposed to go.
Officer Jenny's face was icy cold as she spat, "You think just flashing an Elite Four badge makes you untouchable? Sure, paying for the stolen property is one thing, but what about all the people your Pokémon hurt? The public damage? You think you can brush all this under the rug?"
"I'll compensate everyone." Silas insisted, brow furrowed.
"Compensate?" Officer Jenny laughed—cold and sharp. "You think money fixes everything? I don't care how rich you are, you can't just cover up all the harm you caused. You're coming with me to the police station. Right now. No arguments!"
"Can I at least make a phone call?" Silas tried.
Officer Jenny just shook her head, scoffing, "Not happening!"
"Fine." Silas's easy smile faded. "I'll cooperate, but I'm not leaving until Tyranitar's full. If you want to use force…"
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Three Master Balls at Silas's waist snapped open, streaks of light bursting forth. Three titanic auras filled the room, making it hard for Officer Jenny and everyone else to breathe. Charizard, Gastly, and Dragonite materialized before Silas, all three fixing Officer Jenny with an icy glare—like daring her to try something.
Under their glare, Officer Jenny caved. She ground her teeth and conceded, "Fine!"
Thirty minutes later.
With the store manager looking happier than he'd ever been in his life, Tyranitar polished off every last gem, let out a huge, satisfied belch, and lumbered over to Silas, looking sheepish. "I'm full now."
"No worries." Silas grinned, recalled all four Pokémon, and turned to the beaming manager. "Once you've gone over the numbers, come find me at the police station."
"Of course, of course!" The manager nodded furiously, all smiles. "I'll give you a special 10% discount once I crunch the numbers!"
"Let's go."
Silas completely ignored him, turning to Officer Jenny: "I'll come with you to the station."
Clack!
Officer Jenny instantly whipped out a pair of handcuffs, her voice cold. "Hands out."
"You've gotta be kidding me?!" Silas's eyes went stone-cold. Was she really treating him like a criminal?
"Hmph!" Officer Jenny snorted. "It's not up to you."
"Fine!" Silas held both hands out, face now just as icy. "Don't say I didn't warn you."
"Heh…" Officer Jenny just sneered back, not taking the threat seriously as she locked the cuffs and marched him out.
...
Police Station.
Interrogation Room.
A pitch-black little room—Silas sat alone at the center, facing three officers directly.
"Name."
"Silas Oak."
"Gender."
"You can't tell?" Silas arched an eyebrow.
"Cut the crap!" the cop snapped, voice cold. "You answer exactly what I ask. Gender!"
Silas just gave a faint, mocking grin. "Male."
"Home address?"
"Pallet Town."
"Age."
"Ten."
"Ten?" The older officer shook his head. "Already this much of a delinquent at ten? Who knows how you'll turn out when you grow up!"
Delinquent?
Silas just gave a cold half-grin, not bothering to reply.
"You know what you did wrong?" The cop's tone was icy.
"Nope."
"No?" The officer laughed, cold and precise. "Your Pokémon injured civilians. You assaulted an officer. Don't think your age or your family connections let you dodge the law. I'll spell it out for you—"
"Ha…" Silas yawned and cut him off. "Spare me the lecture. Charge me with whatever you want, just hurry it up. My journey's packed; I don't have time to waste here."
"Journey?"
Silas's total indifference made the cop see red. He sneered, "Well, I'll tell you right now—your journey's over. Expect to spend the next three years behind bars!"
"Whatever."
The threat didn't faze Silas at all.
That attitude only fueled the older officer's rage, but with Silas being a minor and Officer Jenny making it clear Silas had serious backing, he forced himself to swallow the anger. "You two, watch him. Make sure he doesn't escape. I'm going to get the files to Officer Jenny!"
"Sure!" both officers replied in unison.
...
Chief's Office.
"Officer Jenny." The senior officer walked in respectfully, handing her the file. "Here's the interrogation report from earlier."
"Thanks."
Officer Jenny took the file, but the moment she read Silas's full information, it was like someone had stepped on her tail. She leapt to her feet, eyes wide as saucers, brain blanking out. Only one thought kept spinning in her mind: This is bad—really, really bad!
