Cherreads

Chapter 14 - Chapter 15:He is not going anywhere

"People with low understanding equated to nought should not be called for important meetings such as this."

"Hey! Keston, watch your wording. Being the crown prince doesn't mean that I can't beat you up." Among father's children, Radnor was the strongest and also the most block headed. His brain ran a thousand miles behind everyone else.

"Shut up morons. What time is it and you still have the cheek for a banter? Unfilial brats, excuse yourselves before I throw you out." Father berated.

I watched them leave the throne room with an uneasy and a somewhat gloomy face. I knew it won't end there. Radnor will by all means beat Keston for what happened but that's not my concern.

"Befriending him is the wisest way to go." The seer continued. "We have only one option, send out someone without ambitions and greed to go on a journey."

"What? Is this normal? We even have to befriend someone who is not a vampire? How ridiculous." We unanimously turned to the source of that voice, the sixth prince.

"What? Am I wrong?" He asked with a righteous tone.

"I have completed my mission." I knew the seer was fed up with the the ridiculous drama going on in the throne room. Father asked someone to walk the seer out. It was left with the royal family now.

"A prince without ambitions and greed will be difficult to find." A council elder said.

"Something close to that should be okay." Father said in a tired and defeated voice.

"I'll pick Prince the seventh, Kandel. He's devoid of any greed and ambitions." Someone suggested.

They debated and finally settled on Kandel.

"What do you say, Kandel, will you go?" Father asked.

He coughed lightly and blinked those innocent eyes of his. The annoying gesture that always makes me want to beat him.

"Father, you know I'm weak." He begun. "I am not so impressive like the rest of my brothers. We all know that I can't take vampires on this journey. I will die before I get to the border end of Virdom. Don't you think so father?" I sneered at his roundabout way.

"That's right. We need someone who can protect you to go with you."

"Then who do you think can go with you?" Father asked.

"I'm not that close with my brothers and I know they all have their own things to do. I have heard and seen their movements in the castle, for the requirements demanded, I think Jarl will be the perfect person to go with me."

"Not possible!" Uncle Imie shouted angrily. "Jarl is not going anywhere." He added.

"He's my son and a prince. He owe this kingdom and holds part of the responsibility as a prince." Father stood from his seat.

" What? I can't even keep my favorite nephew again? Among all your children he is the only sensible one but you keep ignoring him and now you want to send him away? Not under my watch." Uncle Imie shot back. He pulled me out of the throne room. He kept shouting insults at father. I secretly smiled and let him pull me along.

Uncle took me to his house not far from the castle. He is father's brother but decided to live outside the castle. He claims he wants peace.

He pulled me into a luxurious room though it was not very big it was elegantly designed. It was simple yet beautiful.

"Sit down brat." He shouted.

"Uncle I..."

"You what? If I wasn't there wouldn't you have agree to go with that feminine looking man?"

"I'm sorry."

"Sorry for your sorrowful ass. Ungrateful brat."

The feeling of extreme thirst came back again. My eyes were quickly turning red and I knew I'll loose consciousness very soon.

I looked at Uncle with a pleading look and mouthed please before darkness enveloped me.

Kandel's POV

After the meeting in the throne room, I realized something. We are all princes but not all of us that get the support and love of our relatives.

My relationship with my mother is not very good. My only sister despises me because I look more beautiful than her. I don't know how true that is.

My relationship with father is just very ordinary.

The only person in the castle who treats me like a prince is Queen Caprice, Jarl's mother.

I went to her chambers to look for her. I had to tell her what the Court decided so that she can brace herself for the outcome.

"Your highness, the Queen said you can enter anytime you come." A maid said. I smiled and followed her to the garden. I knew that was her favorite spot. She likes to watch nature. She doesn't have the aggressiveness of a vampire. She is very gentle and welcoming.
