Chapter 137 - Mill

The next day, at a secret base somewhere in Europe, Ohm, who had just rushed over from the United States, was walking into the base with a team of men in black.

Weaving through various corridors and security checkpoints, Ohm finally arrived at a simple yet elegant reception room.

In the spacious reception, only a beautiful female secretary was sitting at a computer, busy with her work.

Seeing Ohm enter, the secretary immediately stood up with a gentle smile and spoke softly, "Please have a seat in the chair over there and wait a moment. Mr. Mill is currently working inside. I've already informed him that you've arrived. When he is ready, I will let you know."

Hearing this, Ohm nodded and then sat down in a chair by the floor-to-ceiling window, waiting patiently.

After he took his seat, the secretary placed a glass of water in front of him. She left behind a professional smile before returning to her desk to continue her work.

Holding the warm water in his hands, Ohm nervously stared out the window.

Through the thin glass of the floor-to-ceiling window, he could see the scene outside.

Unlike the spring-like warmth of the reception room, outside, a violent snowstorm raged, turning both the land and sky into an endless white expanse.

Ohm could no longer distinguish where the sky ended and the ground began. The boundary between the two had blurred, leaving only the howling wind and the piercing snowflakes dancing in the air. The entire world had become a single vast sheet of white.

A moment later, as Ohm was lost in thought, the gentle voice of the secretary pulled him back from his wandering mind.

"Mr. Ohm, Mr. Mill has finished his work. You may go in now."

Turning, Ohm saw the secretary smiling professionally at him.

At her words, he snapped out of his daze, nodded, and set down the glass of water before heading toward the office ahead.

The closer he got, the more nervous he became. He didn't know how to face the person inside.

Every step toward the office felt agonizingly slow. When he finally reached the door, he lightly knocked, and a deep male voice called from inside:

"Please, come in."

Hearing this, Ohm pushed the door open and stepped inside. In the spacious office, a middle-aged man with an air of authority was bent over some papers.

The man wore gold-rimmed glasses. Though middle-aged, his face was well-maintained, with few wrinkles, giving him a mature charm rather than the typical signs of age.

At this moment, he was focused and serious, scanning the documents in his hands. Upon hearing someone enter, he looked up.

"Oh, Ohm. What brings you here? Didn't you just go to the U.S. on a mission a few days ago?"

He adjusted his glasses and asked curiously.

"Sit down and report the situation," he continued before Ohm could respond.

Ohm glanced at the chair in front of him but didn't sit. He stood there, answering the man's questions.

His voice trembled slightly as he said, "M-Mr. Mill, there was a problem with the mission."

Mill didn't react immediately, simply setting aside the papers. He gave Ohm a curious smile and asked, "Oh? What problem?"

Seeing the man's smile made Ohm shiver. He nervously swallowed and answered, "The mission to capture the second-generation esper failed."

"The team that the second-generation esper belongs to is very powerful. I didn't have a full understanding before I went."

"But as soon as I arrived at Blackwater, I had the local head, Saiko, gather intelligence on them. Based on their information and strength, I formulated a detailed plan."

"According to the data, this plan should have been foolproof."

"But who would have thought that the information was inaccurate and did not match the actual situation of the team."

"Moreover, the head of Blackwater North America, Saiko, didn't follow my orders and acted prematurely on his own."

"His recklessness immediately exposed the operation, and the personnel executing the mission were intercepted by that team."

"According to Blackwater's tech division, the A1 squad and Ryan lost all contact, and shortly after, their tracking chips showed signs of being damaged."

After explaining everything in one breath, Ohm anxiously looked at Mill, waiting for the refined middle-aged man's judgment.

Mill listened silently, then removed his glasses and began cleaning them with a nearby cloth.

For a moment, the room fell silent, the oppressive stillness a stark contrast to the raging snowstorm outside.

The heavy atmosphere made Ohm's heart pound uncontrollably. His throat went dry from the immense pressure emanating from the man in front of him.

This man was the leader of Monster, the tyrant Mill.

Though he appeared refined and gentle, everyone at Monster knew just how ruthless he could be.

Once Mill finished cleaning his glasses, he put them back on and looked at the nervous Ohm. Calmly, he said, "So, is that your excuse for failing the mission?"

Hearing this, Ohm immediately dropped to one knee and bowed his head, speaking quickly and nervously:

"N-No, I should be punished for failing the mission. I wasn't trying to excuse myself earlier; I was simply reporting the facts to you. You know very well whether I've reported honestly."

Mill leaned back in his chair, looking down at Ohm kneeling on the floor. "Ohm… Ohm, you know I've always valued you. I even assigned Ryan to assist you for the North American mission, and this is how you report your appreciation for my trust?"

Ohm had no words. Trembling, he bowed his head further. "I am incompetent. I failed to gather the intelligence in advance."

Mill closed his eyes and rubbed his brow, letting out a tired sigh.

After a moment, he spoke wearily, "Stand up. I will investigate this thoroughly."

Ohm secretly breathed a sigh of relief and stood up, thinking he might have narrowly escaped punishment.

But just then, Mill suddenly opened his eyes.

The moment he did, a strange energy enveloped Ohm.

Instantly, Ohm felt as if he could not breathe. He clutched his neck, unable to speak or inhale.

It was as if the area around him had become a vacuum; the lack of oxygen turned his face and neck bright red.

Realizing what was happening, Ohm forced himself to endure the pain, kneeling on the floor and desperately bowing his head in front of Mill, pleading for mercy.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Ohm's head slammed violently against the solid wooden office floor. Strangely, the impacts made no sound at all.

If it weren't for the blood seeping from his head, his silent bows would have seemed like he was hitting a pillow—utterly soundless.
