Alpha Kade strode into his bedchamber, his broad shoulders heavy with exhaustion. The court meeting had drained him more than he cared to admit, especially after Knox's disturbing episode. Behind him, Rowan followed dutifully, with the silent steps that could only be a trained warrior's. Kade shrugged off his heavy robe, letting it fall into Rowan's waiting hands.
"Your sister," Kade said suddenly. "Avril. How does she fare with the fever?"
Surprise flashed across Rowan's otherwise stoic features. He had never known the Alphas knew about his sister's fever. "She improves, Alpha. The healer's remedies have brought down the worst of it."
"Good." Kade moved to the window with his back to his guard. His gaze was fixed on the distant tree line where Knox had disappeared hours ago. No sign of his brother's return yet. "She is a valuable member of our pack."
