"You may return to the kitchen. The maid will tell you what to do," he snapped, moving toward the table without a single book in hand, even after spending so long in the shelves.
I turned to the door, ready to disappear, when his voice stopped me cold.
"Tomorrow, look your best, and eat a handful today. I'm sure Kate knows what to do," he said, and I lifted my gaze to meet his eyes on me.
I pushed to my feet and stormed out of the room. Outside, along the passageway leading to the foyer before the kitchen, I found my arms wrapping around my chest, trying to relieve the pressure that had settled there.
I might suffocate one day, or even pass out, if he keeps staring at me like that.
I had just returned to the kitchen, to the ever-busy and serious activities, when all conversation ceased upon my arrival, just like before. That was when Kate burst into the kitchen, a grin spreading across her face.
