I was sitting by Alessandra's bed in Doctor Gabriele's clinic. I watched the drug in the IV sliding down the tube, hoping that a few more drops would finally make her open her eyes.
"Why isn't she waking up?" I asked the doctor, my mind turbulent, barely keeping the tremor out of my voice.
He scratched his chin. "Well, the drug turned out to be more complex than we thought. I've gotten my toxicologist on it, and very soon, he'll give me a full list of the ingredients." Then he stepped closer and gave me a faint smile. "But she's getting better. She might sleep a little longer, but that's it."
I nodded absently and stroked Alessandra's cold cheek. All kinds of extreme emotions fought for dominance inside me. I felt rage, fear and anxiety. But what I felt the most was an hunger for revenge. I rose to my feet and looked at Gabriele. "Please let me know–"
"I will call you right away if anything changes," he said, giving me a curt bow before turning to the monitor screen.
