Chapter 23 - Chapter 21: Underlying Currents

After tidying up everything, Baiyi let the surge of spirit power on his body sweep away the dust and fatigue, and walked out of the shop, suddenly pausing for a moment.

An elf with a perfect ice-cold face sat at the counter, her white hair and office attire flawless. Beside her was a sleepy maid with a lollipop in her mouth, whose head bobbed sleepily, looking both adorable and dazed.

They were Aileen and Luoning.

Perhaps worrying about safety, Aileen had been living in the meeting room, which had now turned into a private room for the two girls.

However, Baiyi didn't dwell on such a pleasing scene and quickly walked out.

Although he had some complaints about dressing his future mascot as a maid, now was clearly not the time to discuss this. There were still many things to do tonight.

Stepping into the snowstorm, it was nearing the end of December now, and this period was also the coldest.

Adding to that was the current time of ten o'clock at night, with the snow in the sky gradually increasing.

Baiyi had no intention of taking a car; this was the core commercial street of the Inner City, and the meeting point with Sabo was not far.

Turning left and walking about five hundred meters, Baiyi turned into a small alley, and from under his coat tails, a worker bee flew out. With each step he took, a special force field from the bee would restore the piled snow to its original state.

After twisting and turning through seven turns, crossing over four streets, the place began to glow with neon lights, and the crowd noticeably increased.

The entertainment district, filled with arcades, taverns, casinos, brothels, theaters, and other entertainment facilities.

Even though more than thirty people had been killed directly on the street here just a few days ago, it couldn't stop adventurers' yearning for entertainment.

Arriving at the back of a casino named "Golden City," a dwarf about one point two meters tall was already waiting here.

Seeing Baiyi, Sabo greeted warmly, "My friend, you finally came, let's go, we should go watch the show first."

Sabo led Baiyi through the back door of the casino, and after passing through a dimly lit path, they arrived at a concealed underground room.

He switched on the light in the underground room, revealing a hexagram array to Baiyi's eyes.

"A teleportation array? Where did you get this thing?" Baiyi was somewhat surprised. Teleportation arrays were considered luxurious items, as the disappearance of the gods had left the spatial structure of the Xia Continent less stable than imagined.

This made it difficult for mages and alchemists to create stable teleportation arrays, and each array that could stably set coordinates was considered a miracle, something that could only be encountered by chance.

Unexpectedly, Sabo had such a good thing…..

"You don't need to worry about that, come on, come on, the East City is bustling now."

Sabo rubbed his hands gleefully and, after pressing a switch, the array began to activate.

The two stood on the teleportation array, and as mysterious purple halos began to flicker, the surrounding spatial structure changed rapidly, almost instantly causing Baiyi to feel a buzz in his mind.

When he felt solidity under his feet again, he stumbled forward, almost falling to his knees.

"Ugh~ Ugh~"

Sounds of retching arose, and Baiyi, with a pale face, turned his head, immediately seeing Sabo squatting by the wall, vomiting madly, an unpleasant odor spreading in the dark room.

"Where did you get this inferior product?" Baiyi was speechless; the spatial dissonance was so strong, he might as well have just taken a car!

Looking around, Baiyi, with somewhat unsteady steps, walked toward the direction of the door.

"Wait... ugh~ wait for me, my.. ugh~ friend...." Sabo said haltingly, pulling out a bottle of spirit recovery potion from his arms as he continued to drink and vomit, looking extremely miserable.

Baiyi disdainfully quickened his pace, pushing open the old wooden door directly.

Whoo... whoo...

The cold wind and snow blew in through the open door, clearing Baiyi's drowsy mind somewhat. He leaned against the door outside, watching the heavy snow quietly waiting.

After about five minutes or so, the more unsteady-footed Sabo walked out the door. The cold wind blowing improved his pale complexion slightly.

"Damn goblin, damn Potter, that bastard deceived me!"

Sabo cursed indignantly, explaining spatial teleportation arrays of this kind did not require high skill; their principle was very simple.

Finding a weak point in space, using magic to forcefully penetrate it, carrying the user through space turbulence to the destination was a kind of teleportation array that was already lost and not really studied anymore.

After all, teleporting over would come with a dizziness debuff, and if wounded, the injuries would worsen – who could bear that?

The only advantage being cheap and training spatial resistance, hard to block, and the more magic power injected, the more violent the spatial teleportation.

Eventually, becoming akin to a space orbital cannon, any body not like cannonballs would directly be torn apart by the transmission array.

Surprisingly, such a thing still existed nowadays...

"Stop complaining, tell me about the current situation." Baiyi calmed the buzzing in his mind, always feeling that the surroundings were noisy, yet it was obviously only the sound of the wind and snow.

"Wai... wait a moment, I need to calm down." Sabo said, again pulling out a bottle of potion from god-knows-where, guzzling it down.

His complexion significantly improved after drinking the potion, and as the drug's effect continued to play out, Sabo's mental state fully recovered in a short span.

He looked up at the sky, with a restored excited expression: "Let's go, this time we will make a grand entrance."

The two walked into the snowstorm, and Sabo, lowering his voice slightly, explained the current situation: "There is gold within the Scarlet Sect now, and the number of blood mages discovered exceeds a hundred, a force that could overturn this city."

"They are preparing some terrifying evil ritual, attempting to establish a connection with the Lord of Scarlet. Once this connection is established, then the blood mages will become divine servants, and the Lord of Scarlet can inject more power into Xia Continent."

"This is quite troublesome."

"And that invisible force seems even more terrifying as I keep making accidents to barely shift their focus onto the Scarlet Sect these days."

"This might owe to the thing the Scarlet Sect robbed, something many covet."

"And now, subsequent personnel from the Will Clan have also arrived in Dongwu City, the five hundred energy guns they bought from you can exert maximum effect, also a substantial force."

"However, there's something strange." Sabo rubbed his chin, an expression full of thought: "My friend, what do you think our City Lord is contemplating?"

"Despite the surging undercurrents within the city, he still stays in the City Lord's Mansion all day, with no intention of coming out to try deterring the rogues."

"I have no idea." Baiyi sorted through the information Sabo revealed and replied:

"However, the City Lord serves little purpose, he's almost retired, now just waiting for the growth of the Apocalypse Legion Commander, so in this incident, the City Lord will merely be a spectator, the Apocalypse Legion might get involved."
