Chapter 6 - Chapter 5: Feast of Slaughter

After stepping outside, Chen Feng banished the Inferior Demon to the Abyss.

The appearance of the Inferior Demon was too bizarre. Even though its astonishing presence could repel many petty criminals, it would also attract a lot of unnecessary attention and trouble. Fortunately, Chen Feng had already signed a contract with it; with just a thought, this ugly predator would appear by his side.

Chaos.

At this moment, the street had become a scene of escape, with countless people fleeing in all directions. Behind them were some strange and fierce predators.

A few corpses advanced slowly, and the sudden surge of energy revived these long-buried bodies. Before evolving, they were slaves to flesh and devoured all living creatures without knowing hunger or satiety. Furthermore, any creature bitten by them would be infected with corpse poison and turn into a decaying form like theirs.

On the other side, countless cats, dogs, rats, and rabbits were also furiously pursuing humans. These usually docile animals now had blood-red eyes and moved at more than twice their usual speed. Compared to zombies, although they lacked the frightening corpse poison, their sharp claws and speed were their tools for harvesting lives.

Apart from these native creatures that had just mutated, there were some distinctly different entities among the chaotic crowd, including beetles the size of millstones and a worm the size of a magnified maggot whimsically spraying its mouthful of liquid, severely corroding any human it touched in an instant.

Giant Rock Beetle, Sulfuric Acid Insect.

The apocalypse descended, and along with the inexplicable energy in the air, countless Dimensional Rifts abruptly appeared. These creatures emerged from the rifts as predators.

Blood, screams, roars.

Countless scenes of human tragedy emerged at this moment. Chen Feng quickly stepped forward and immediately ran towards the route in his memory.

A convenience store near here.

Though Chen Feng was a Summoner inclined towards mental abilities, his body had been strengthened. His reflexes and agility had transcended the range of ordinary people.

In the ocean, sharks wouldn't relentlessly chase a nimble fish, and the fleeing crowd created excellent conditions for Chen Feng. In just a moment, he entered a nearby convenience store.

The feast of slaughter.

The chaotic crowd attracted most of the monsters, and shops and houses wouldn't suffer large-scale attacks until no living soul was left on the street. Therefore, Chen Feng had enough time to search for supplies.

The customers in the convenience store had long dispersed after the riot occurred, leaving the place empty.

After securing the windows and barricading the door with a shelf, this became Chen Feng's temporary base.

"I need high-calorie food."

"Chocolate, bread, meat..."

Chen Feng wandered casually in the convenience store; after making a round, he had a large bag in hand. Besides food supplies, it also contained several large drums of water.

The Inferior Demon's stomach was large, and since these were unopened foods, it could be commanded to swallow them whole, functioning as a mobile storage room.

This convenience store was small and located in a busy area, not suitable for hiding. But the target would be too obvious during the day, so Chen Feng planned to leave here by night.

"Rustle..."

A sound rang out.

"Someone?"

The sound came from the counter, and there was no scent of blood or monsters here; it was evident that this might be a hidden human.

Yet, the cautious Chen Feng gestured, ready to summon the Inferior Demon instantly if something happened.

"Who's there?!"

Chen Feng approached the counter, speaking coldly.

"Did those monsters not follow? I'm so afraid..." A soft voice came from under the counter, followed by a girl crawling out.

She was seventeen or eighteen, and even though she looked tired and worn-out, one could still see her delicate facial features and dainty face. She seemed frightened, yet there was an added sense of pitiable fragility.

At the age for blooming flowers, she should have been leisurely studying in school, but now she appeared disheveled, her body covered in dirt, and her neck was red as if grazed.

The red mark was large, spreading over half of her neck. Chen Feng glanced at it briefly and paid no further attention.

"Brother, those monsters didn't follow?" the girl said fearfully, but Chen Feng did not reply, only looking at her with indifference.

The girl didn't particularly focus on Chen Feng's expression. She glanced outside the door and, seeing the debris piled at the entrance and the empty convenience store, felt relieved. Immediately, crystalline tears began to fall.

"Dead... they're all dead..."

"So many monsters, many I've never seen before..."

"We just finished school when those monsters attacked us. Zhang Linlin was taken into the air, killed, and then just died..."

The girl was evidently terrified, tears streaming down as her hands shook. Although somewhat incoherent, Chen Feng still managed to piece together the story.

It was nothing more than a group of students being attacked, a slaughter unfolding, and only this girl surviving.

A lucky one.

Chen Feng gave her a detached glance. Such a frail form managing to escape from the chaotic streets to here was clearly a miracle.

The girl gave Chen Feng a timid look and softly asked, "Brother, my phone just broke. Can you call my dad? I'm so scared..."

"Dad knows, he'll definitely come to save us!"

She raised her small hand, clutching a cracked phone, with scrapes on her palm; blood and dirt mixed together, presenting a pitiful sight.

Chen Feng shook his head; the apocalyptic storm had swept through communication facilities, rendering phones nothing more than useless bricks. Call? An utter fantasy.

But even if communication wasn't cut off, could weak human efforts turn the tide? Monsters rampant, bullets might take down one zombie, only for others to pounce and devour in the next moment.

From now on, one could say that everyone had only themselves to rely on.

"Don't speak, don't cry, and definitely don't do anything unnecessary. Most importantly, don't bother me again."

Chen Feng chose to ignore her, not even acknowledging the phone, this last hope for the girl. He turned his back and sat aside, closing his eyes to rest.

The girl's face showed a trace of fear. No one had ever treated her so harshly.

Sour, bitter.

It was a feeling she'd never experienced before.

"What kind of person is this?"

She wrinkled her little nose, whispering indignantly.

Chen Feng was indifferent to the girl's feelings. Leaning against a shelf, he closed his eyes to rest, as he needed to regain enough strength for nighttime.

Sleepiness crept in.

"Bang..."

Some time passed, a noise echoed, and Chen Feng's eyes immediately opened. His body reacted instinctively, looking towards the direction of the sound.

The long exposure to danger had made his body more sensitive than his consciousness.

"Bang..."

The door shook again.

In the crack.

Several dark figures suddenly appeared, fluttering in the air, making eerie noises, their bodies exuding a strong scent of blood.

"Night Tracking Bat?"

Chen Feng's eyes sharpened as he named the creature.
