Chapter 9 - Chapter 8: Class Holder

"Swoosh..."

A bug appeared in front of Chen Feng.

It looked like a centipede, but its size was magnified countless times, reaching about a meter in length with a thickness about the size of a bucket. Its densely packed insect limbs on the ground made one's scalp tingle at the mere sight.

Red-legged Centipede.

It didn't have any rank, this one was just in its juvenile form. If it advanced to Bronze Level, it would grow to about two meters, and its limbs would become even sharper.

The habits of the Red-legged Centipede hadn't changed. This cold, damp place attracted its visit. It liked to entangle its prey with its many insect limbs and then attack with venomous fangs. Although it didn't have any rank, its venom was extremely potent. Once poisoned, an ordinary person couldn't last even a minute before succumbing.

Underestimating the enemy was a major mistake.

A cold gleam flashed.

Chen Feng charged at the Red-legged Centipede with a boning knife, slashing at its head.

"Psst!"

A jet of pitch-black blood gushed out, with speckles of white mixed in – the centipede's brain matter. The recent strike had dealt it a serious blow.

The Red-legged Centipede frantically waved its insect limbs and slid back, its eyes fixed on Chen Feng, filled with anger and ferocity.

It wasn't dead.

This didn't surprise Chen Feng, as insects possessed extraordinary vitality. Some with innate talents even had self-regeneration abilities.

Fortunately, this one was just a juvenile form. The boning knife could penetrate its defense. If one strike couldn't kill it, then a few more would do.

A Summoner who doesn't use a Summoned Beast in battle but instead wields a long knife to fight personally would surely astonish other professionals.

Due to his profession, Chen Feng couldn't engage in prolonged physical combat, but even so, he couldn't rely entirely on his Summoned Beast.

There were too many unpredictable events in the apocalypse. Every increase in physical ability slightly improved survival chances.

Combat training.

Chen Feng needed to have this body master combat skills proficiently in the shortest time possible.

"Psst!"

A muffled sound, the centipede's back was slit open, and foul-smelling insect blood flowed out.

The Red-legged Centipede screamed, bearing another wound. Yet, it didn't retreat; instead, it ignited its fury, attacking with increased speed.

Chen Feng's pupils contracted. Even as the centipede raised its head, he had already taken an evasion posture, pushing off with his legs to retreat several steps.

The Red-legged Centipede landed on the ground, immediately cracking the tiles.

The intense pain and wounds prevented it from continuing its assault, providing a window of opportunity for Chen Feng.

"Crack!"

"Crack!"

"Crack!"

The boning knife fractured under consecutive strikes. It was an ordinary weapon, and wear and tear were significant problems. If circumstances allowed, Chen Feng needed to find someone to forge a suitable weapon.

Profession.

This is a general term for the abilities of all Evolvers. Among them are close combat experts like Shadow Assassins, Shadower, and Illusionary Assassins; then there's the forceful tank, like Rock Giant, Hill Lord, and Beast Formers, as well as mental professions like Chen Feng's Summoner, Beast Tamer, Ice and Fire Mage, Elemental Master, and so on...

Besides these attack-oriented professionals, some professionals are from life-oriented professions; their strength might not be prominent, but they excel in life skills such as Blacksmith, Enchanter, and Alchemist.

They possess unique abilities; for example, a Blacksmith can refine steel and forge weapons. As their levels rise, they can incorporate monster organs and blood into their creations to enhance their destructiveness and lethality.

Some powerful life professionals are highly sought by major forces. Even if their attack abilities were negligible, their ability to earn money had already reached MAX.

"Crunch!"

A teeth-grinding sound came, as the Red-legged Centipede's head was split open, spilling a big pool of brain matter onto the ground.

The Red-legged Centipede was considered one of the more troublesome opponents among cannon fodder. Not only did it possess agile speed, but its attack power was also formidable. The fact that Chen Feng could kill it within a minute was already a commendable record.

However, Chen Feng was still somewhat dissatisfied.

Strictness...

This also helped increase survival chances.

After slaughtering the Red-legged Centipede, Chen Feng subsequently encountered pests like Sulfuric Acid Insects and Land Eels. Compared to the former, the latter only appeared fiercer and stronger, but a few cuts easily took their lives.

For example, the Sulfuric Acid Insect is a creature capable of spraying sulfuric acid. However, it is incredibly slow, and spraying sulfuric acid requires a buffer time. In the interim of accumulating sulfuric acid, a single brick can take out the opponent.

Many people fear because terror dominates them. By mustering courage, they'll realize that the monsters that appeared on the streets today aren't invincible.

Of course, this is just the apocalypse's beginning. Many monsters are still in their juvenile states, but as they consume and absorb energy particles from the air, certain monsters will transform, like the Sulfuric Acid Insect. Once it accumulates enough energy, it will grow wings and become a Purple-winged Sulfuric Acid Insect. Then, at Bronze Power, not only does it reduce the time needed to spray sulfuric acid, but it also gains flying abilities, making it quite a troublesome enemy.

Even the Inferior Demon in Chen Feng's hands, if nurtured properly and elevated to Gold or even Legendary Level, will undergo transformations in appearance and abilities.

The cleanup operation was nearing completion, with only the final floor remaining. Soon, this place would become a stable base for Chen Feng.

"Thump, thump..."

Chen Feng ascended the floor, with spider webs everywhere, and walls severely corroded. Clearly, no one had set foot here for a long time.

Just one more staircase...

Suddenly, a cold gust swept by, and Chen Feng suddenly sensed a shadow flickering before him. Instinctively, he used the boning knife to block, but the opponent's tremendous force instantly knocked his weapon aside.

"What is that?!"

Crouching low, Chen Feng hurriedly retreated down the stairs.

"Snake-like creature?"

Cautiously, Chen Feng stood at the stairwell corner. In the previous instant of confrontation, he hadn't seen the opponent in full but felt a soft, twisting body.

An eerie scraping sound appeared, casting a shadow at the stairway entrance, with several curling "tendrils" flailing arbitrarily.

Chen Feng's expression changed dramatically; he clasped his hands together, making a red glow illuminate beneath his feet.

At that moment, he clearly saw the monster in full, with a bloated body, entirely black, and possessing four "tendrils" as thick as wrists.

Chen Feng's face turned odd.

He recognized the creature. It was clearly a...

Tentacle Monster?!
