Chapter 68 - Easier than Expected

9pm came.

Blake made his way down to the bathroom, magically muted and invisible, and entered it.

"Harry?" he whispered after cancelling the spell.

"I'm here," Harry's voice said. The boy unveiled himself from behind what must've been his Invisibility Cloak. I need to ask him how he got that later, Blake reminded himself.

The pair made their way to that sink, and Blake saw the inscription of the snake, barely visible unless you were looking for it, engraved on the tap.

"You know what to do, Harry."

The boy nodded, and Blake heard the hissing come from his voice as he waited with baited breath. For a second, nothing happened.

But suddenly, the sink began creaking. Blake and Harry looked on in a mixture of shock, triumph and horror as it began to lower more and more, revealing a pipe that had been hidden behind it.

"That's got to be the entrance," Harry whispered.

"Yeah. Let's go."

Harry went in first, and Blake followed right after. The pipe was like a slide - a long, slimy slide that seemed like it would never end, but eventually it did. This place is disgusting, Blake thought. And we're miles below the school, just like last time. Harry and Blake both said, "Lumos!" and ignited the tips of their wands.

"Oh my God," Harry whispered. The floor was littered with skeletons of small animals, probably rats.

"This is what the Basilisk's been surviving off all these years," Blake whispered. "No wonder it said it was hungry. Let's go."

They continued down the Chamber, senses peeled for any movement or indication of the Basilisk.

"As soon as you see anything resembling a snake, look down," Blake had told Harry on the slide down. He just hoped Harry would remember.

They walked for what seemed like ages, with the tunnel turning and twisting countless times, before finally it seemed to come to an end at a wall with two stone serpents attached to them. Blake nodded to Harry, and he hissed again. The serpents separated from each other as the wall opened like double doors. Blake and Harry looked at each other.

"Ready?"

"Ready."

Together, they entered the Chamber of Secrets.

"It's going to come from there," Blake reasoned, staring at the giant statue of Salazar Slytherin in front of them.

Blake and Harry were both beginning to stress now. Neither of them had found the Basilisk, and they'd looked everywhere.

"Harry, call for it."

"What? Are you crazy? If we call it, it'll know exactly where we are!"

"Don't worry," Blake assured him, trying not to worry himself. "I'll still kill it."

Harry hesitated for a moment, but he steeled himself.

"Okay - are you ready?"

Blake raised his wand, and took out a piece of rock from his robes - not small, not big - about the size of a duck.

"I am."

Harry began to speak in Parseltongue again, and Blake braced himself. Listen out for it. Don't look anywhere near the head.

And, after a few painstaking seconds, he heard it - a horrible sound, a mixture of slithering and hissing that was impossible to miss.

The pair instinctively split up, and Blake kept his eye movement strictly controlled as the sound grew closer and closer, until finally-

"Blake! It's close!" Harry cried out as the Basilisk's hissing grew louder than ever. Still not daring to open his eyes, the Slytherin finally made use of his practice.

"Distract it and run!"

Blake gripped the stone and tapped his wand on it. Now!

As soon as he imagined it, the stone Transfigured itself into the only thing that could instantly kill a Basilisk effortlessly - a rooster. But Blake didn't have anytime to celebrate. He pinched the rooster as hard as he could, and the sound that came was like music to his ears.

The rooster crowed loudly over and over, and that was the end of it. Harry's yelling ceased, and the Basilisk's hissing and slithering could no longer be heard either.

Blake felt no small amount of pleasure at the Basilisk's death. F*ck you, you sh*t little f*cker. 1000 years old, only to get killed by a 13 year old mudblood like me. What a b*tch. I hope it hurt. I only wish Connor was here to piss on your corpse.

And you're next, Riddle.

"It - it's not moving," Harry said, panting. The Boy-Who-Lived had spent around 10 seconds avoiding a Basilisk while staring solely at the floor, which Blake found commendable.

"Yeah," Blake said, as the rooster turned back into a rock (albeit with a feather inside it). "It's dead. Basilisk's die instantly when they hear roosters, remember? Anyway, don't look around just yet - we still need to destroy the eyes."

Blake inched his way towards Harry's voice until he walked into something slimy and scaly. Here it is, he thought. He felt around the corpse, and when satisfied that it was the main body and not the head, he raised his gaze. This thing is massive, Blake marveled. It was at least 5 Hagrids long and probably 1 Hagrid thick.

"Harry, come towards my voice."

Soon, Blake felt Harry's arm touch his back.

"Look straight ahead, you can open your eyes, but don't look anywhere else."

Harry opened his eyes, and cursed.

"It's massive," he said.

"Yeah - we need to each go in one direction and find the head. Don't look anywhere apart from straight, just keep moving sideways half a step at a time. Remember, if you look at the eyes-"

"You die," Harry finished. "Got it."

The pair started to inch their way towards either end of the Basilisk's body, and as luck would have it, the head was on the side that Blake was investigating.

"Found it," Blake called. "I'm gonna feel around for the eyes, and then destroy them."

"Be careful!"

The Slytherin boy began to feel around for the Basilisk's eyes, and after about 10 seconds, he found them.

"I've got where the eyes are - I'm going to destroy them now."

"Be careful, Blake!" Harry repeated, almost next to him by now.

I want little, controlled damage to the eyes - the fangs can't be destroyed.

"Bombarda!" Blake said twice. Harry yelped, thinking that the explosion would be massive- but it wasn't. Don't worry, Harry, Blake thought with a smile. I can control my magic well enough that I can control how big of an explosion is made.

But, of course, it may not have worked.

"Diffindo!" Blake said, this time slicing horizontally across the eyes, and he repeated the spell 5 times.

"That should do the trick," Blake said cheerily, before taking off his exterior robes to cover the Basilisk's face.

Very quickly, he looked at the head, and found the mouth. Two fangs.

Blake quickly located and held both of them under the robes, grabbing them tightly, before pulling as hard as he could. They snapped off relatively easily, and Blake stuffed them each into a pocket.

"You can open your eyes fully now, Harry."

The pair stepped back from the corpse, and grinned at each other.

"So, we're safe now?"

"Relatively," Blake responded. "But we need to act on Ginny quickly. Riddle can't know that the Basilisk is dead until we figure out how he's controlling her."

Together, the pair made their way back up to the surface.

That was easy.
