Chapter 218 - Skeleton Reborn: Rise of the Iron Fortress

From within the ruins, the Iron Skull slowly emerged from the shadows. His figure was massive, covered in muscles of dark metal that gleamed coldly in the sunlight. His pale, skull-like face flickered with a faint red light, the depths of his eye sockets burning like two points of crimson flame. Each step he took was like a mountain collapsing, the ground groaning under his heavy tread.

"Look at these little heroes," the Iron Skull's voice was low and hoarse, carrying a cruel mockery. "A little girl who can travel through space, and a spider-person in a tight suit. Do you think you're qualified to stand before me?"

America stood beside Peter, her gaze sharp. "Who are you? You look like a Halloween decoration, and you can talk?"

Peter couldn't help but let out a chuckle, but quickly covered it up. "Uh, she means—you're special, but maybe you need a more modern look."

The Iron Skull let out a low laugh, the metal plates on his chest vibrating with the sound. He slowly raised an arm like an iron tower, pointing at the two of them. "Before, they called me Colossus. Yes, a foolish, childish, meaningless name. But now—" He paused, his voice becoming even colder. "I am Iron Skull. Rama-Tut's will reborn me; my power has surpassed your understanding."

"Colossus?" America blinked, a mocking curve lifting the corner of her mouth. "Sounds like some kind of outdated fitness equipment brand."

Peter immediately added, "Or the name of an 80s rock band, 'Colossus and the Sons of Metal'. It's got a real visual to it."

The Iron Skull's laughter stopped abruptly, the red light in his eyes suddenly brightening. He took a fierce step forward, the ground cracking beneath his feet, and his huge iron fist smashed down towards the two like a meteor.

"The result of mocking the powerless is being crushed!"

America quickly opened a portal, and Peter flipped over, the two narrowly avoiding the punch. The Iron Skull's fist hit the ground, and the entire area trembled violently as if an earthquake had struck, sending gravel flying and dust billowing.

"Stop just talking trash!" America turned to Peter. "Do something practical!"

"I am doing something practical!" Peter retorted, simultaneously shooting out webbing to tightly wrap around the Iron Skull's arm. He quickly circled the Iron Skull's massive body, attempting to restrict his movements.

The Iron Skull lowered his head to glance at the webbing, a flicker of disdain in his eyes. With a slight tremor, the webbing instantly snapped under his immense strength. He raised his other arm and swatted directly towards Peter.

"Oh no!" Peter quickly backflipped, narrowly avoiding the thunderous blow, and the ground was smashed into another huge crater.

America seized the opportunity to attack from the side. She leaped up, her fist leaving afterimages as it struck directly at the Iron Skull's head. A loud bang echoed as her fist connected, and the Iron Skull's massive frame actually swayed.

"Wow, that was a good punch." Mockery dripped from the Iron Skull's voice as he slowly turned his head, his crimson eyes locking onto America. "But to me, it's like a tickle."

He raised his arm and swept it horizontally. America quickly retreated but backed into a protruding piece of ruin, forcing her to stop. The Iron Skull closed in, his massive figure looming over her.

"You might have some potential," the Iron Skull said in a low voice, full of contempt. "But that's all."

"I have some advice too," America raised her head, her gaze defiant. "You big idiot are too slow!"

Before her words finished, she suddenly jumped up and kicked the Iron Skull's chest. At the same time, Peter shot webbing from the other side, firmly securing the Iron Skull's leg.

"Let's see your defense now!" Peter shouted.

The Iron Skull sneered, his body suddenly rotating, tearing Peter's webbing clean off with sheer force. America's attack landed on his chest with a dull metallic thud but caused no substantial damage. Instead, the Iron Skull's arm shot up like lightning, grabbing America's arm and flinging her directly into the air.

Peter quickly leaped up, shooting webbing from both hands, catching America in mid-air. They both landed on the ground together.

"Man, he's ridiculously tough," Peter said in a low voice.

"You think?" America rubbed her shoulder, panting. "Either figure out a way to take him down, or don't waste time."

The Iron Skull slowly walked towards the two, a cold, laughing tone in his voice. "I will let you experience true power, not that fake 'heroism'."

Peter glanced at America, a smile playing on his lips. "Sounds like he's a bit narcissistic."

"Then don't let him brag anymore." America gritted her teeth and charged forward again, with Peter close behind.

The Iron Skull stood in the center of the ruins, his body emitting a low mechanical hum. The surface of his metal armor slowly cracked open, revealing the weapon systems hidden within. The steel plate on his chest slid open, and several miniature energy barrels slowly rose. Weapon modules glinting with cold light also extended from his shoulders and forearms, like a mobile combat fortress. The crimson light in his eyes became even more intense, like flames from the depths of hell.

"Do you really think you clowns can defeat me?" The Iron Skull's voice had the cold, hard texture of metal grinding. "Look closely, I'm not standing here just by brute force. I am the embodiment of destruction."

Peter and America involuntarily stopped, their gaze firmly fixed on the fully armed giant before them. The Iron Skull slowly raised his arms, and the energy barrels glowed fiercely. A low energy charging sound gradually filled the entire battlefield.

"Dangerous," Peter said in a low voice. He quickly pulled America back.

"Yeah, he looks like he could flatten a whole city right now." Disdain was in America's voice, but her eyes were sharp as knives.

The Iron Skull let out a sneer, leaning forward slightly, his massive figure like a Beast about to pounce on its prey. "You can't run. Surrender. It's your only way out."

America ignored the Iron Skull's threat and stood in front of Peter. Her body sank slightly, her fists clenched, her eyes looking directly at him. "Surrender? You still have such an old-fashioned word in your dictionary? That's surprising."

The Iron Skull's expression didn't change at all. The red light in his eyes still flickered, and the glow from the energy barrels became even more dazzling. His voice was low and cold. "Talking tough even when death is imminent? Do you young people really think you can beat me with a little cleverness?"

America lightly turned her neck, producing a crisp cracking sound. A disdainful smile appeared on the corner of her mouth. "Not a little cleverness, but great wisdom. Sorry, old bones, you might need to see the creativity of young people."

The Iron Skull raised his arms, and the energy barrels instantly aimed directly at the two, the intense light poised to strike.

"I will let you know what true fear is!" He roared, and several beams of energy shot out, heading straight for America and Peter.

Just as the energy beams were about to hit them, America's hand sharply drew an arc in the air, and a portal burst open. A brilliant blue light rolled out like a wave, swallowing all of the Iron Skull's energy beams. Immediately after, the portal rotated in an instant, and the exit appeared behind the Iron Skull.

"Try the fear you created yourself!" America said coldly.

The energy beams shot out from the portal at an even faster speed, precisely hitting the Iron Skull's back. His heavy armor let out a piercing explosion, sparks and debris flew everywhere, and the huge impact pushed him forward.

The Iron Skull stumbled a few steps, then managed to steady himself. He turned to look at America, a hint of complex astonishment in his eyes. "So... you have this kind of ability?"

America raised her head, her gaze resolute, her voice full of confidence. "Yeah, didn't expect that, did you? Welcome to a real fight."

The Iron Skull's back suddenly split open, spraying out intense blue-white flames. His entire body slowly rose into the air. Flight devices unfolded behind him, spreading out like metallic wings. Dazzling beams of light shot out from the hidden barrels, staining the sky crimson. He hovered in mid-air, looking down at America and Peter below, his voice echoing like thunder through the ruins.

"I like a challenge." He extended his arms, and the armor layers on his shoulders, chest, arms, and even legs opened up, exposing more energy barrels that emitted blinding light. Every barrel began to charge, the low hum like a harbinger of death.

"Now," his tone was filled with savage excitement, "I want to see if you can handle my 360° no-dead-angle strike!"

America looked up at the Iron Skull in the air, a sarcastic smile appearing on her face. She slightly lifted her chin and tilted her head towards Peter. "This guy really likes showing off his metal toys. No wonder his name is so old-fashioned."

Peter, while watching the enemy in the air, quietly asked, "So, do we have a plan? Or are you just improvising?"

America didn't answer, but let out a cold snort and quickly drew a portal in the air with her hand. She grabbed Peter's arm and pulled him through.

"Maybe you should work on your emotional intelligence first, tin head!" America's voice, full of heavy mockery, echoed as the portal closed.

The Iron Skull paused for a second, his crimson eyes slightly narrowed, and a cold arc lifted his metallic lips. "Running away? How ridiculous."

He raised his arms, and several small flying devices shot out from the barrels on his shoulders. These devices were long and narrow, with faint blue flames spraying from their tails, like a pack of deadly hounds. They quickly cut through the air, scattering and flying out, beginning to search the ruins and the air for America and Peter's whereabouts.

"No matter how far you run, my hounds will find you." The Iron Skull's voice carried a chilling killing intent. He slowly ascended, the energy barrels on his arms rotating slightly, ready to deliver a fatal blow the moment the target was exposed.

Meanwhile, America and Peter appeared through the portal among some ruins far from the battlefield. America quickly looked around, confirming the safety of their surroundings before letting go of Peter's hand.

"He really thinks he's the center of the Universe," America muttered in a low voice, a thin layer of sweat beading on her forehead.

"Are we hiding, or waiting for an opportunity?" Peter asked vigilantly, his hands ready to shoot webbing at any moment.

"Waiting for an opportunity." America's gaze was sharp, a hint of disdain in her tone. "That guy's flight devices and weapons are strong, but his arrogance is his biggest weakness. Just wait, he'll expose a gap."

Peter nodded but couldn't help but look up at the sky. His spider-sense suddenly started blaring, and he quickly said in a low voice, "Uh, I think we might not have time to wait. His hounds are here."

Hearing this, America quickly looked up and saw several flying devices rapidly approaching from different directions. She gritted her teeth and raised her hands again, preparing to open a new portal.

"Ready, Spider-Man?" There was a hint of challenge in her tone, but more than that, there was the determination to fight.

Peter stretched his shoulders, shot out a few strands of webbing, and secured himself to the wall of the ruins. "Ready anytime."

The flying devices rapidly approached, a sharp buzzing sound filling the air. Their red lights flickered, as if they had smelled their prey. America's gaze became even sharper. She took a deep breath, waiting for the right moment.
