Night wrapped the desert in a cool, murky dark. The truck sat cloaked and invisible just beyond the reach of the active massive military base ahead.
The team was ready. Masks covering their faces so only eyes and hair showed, gear strapped on, weapons checked, expressions hard and focused.
"Eden, stay with Willow after she opens the stabilizer door," Navian whispered. "Ace, Professor, Nix, cover me. I'll take point."
They all nodded. The truck doors opened and they flowed out into the sand, running low and fast to avoid the drone searchlights in the sky.
When they reached the perimeter electric fence, Ace stepped forward first, pressing two fingers to the crackling metal. Sparks hissed, the current bleeding into his skin harmlessly, the sparks wrapping around his body.
Then, he jumped over the barrier first, the sparks on his body dying down.
