Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Marriage Alliance

Kasjia, who had transmigrated into the Warhammer world, may not have had a golden finger system.

But he did have a golden ring.

The Sagittarius Golden Ring.

And that was enough.

"I was just thinking..."

Fulgrim happily raised her left hand, now adorned with the ring, taking it all in.

Why?

Why could she perceive a sense of beauty in it that she had never experienced before?

As Primarchs, the most powerful weapons and tools for the Emperor of Mankind to execute his will, they were born with an innate grasp of the technology, wisdom, philosophy, and art accumulated by humanity over countless millennia.

But nowhere in Fulgrim's genetic database did it explain why the still-crude centaur ring would evoke such a powerful feeling within her.

Inspiration, art.

Beauty.

And that indescribable flutter in her heart.

A violet bud bloomed in her mind, then burst, dyeing all the gloom with vibrant and wild colors.

She wanted to show it off, to announce it... she wanted countless nobles and commoners to celebrate with her, to be envious.

Endless thoughts surged forth madly. Countless plays, works of literature, and cinematic arts intertwined, surfaced, and welled up in her mind in an instant.

"I was just thinking,"

"Perhaps in the future, after Chemos is truly liberated, this very moment might be immortalized in the greatest of plays."

Like a stage actress, Fulgrim elegantly lifted her chin.

"And it will be sung throughout Chemos, and later, throughout the entire human world!"

"Perhaps, in the not-so-distant future, the Sagittarius Golden Ring will surpass the cliché diamond ring to become the ultimate symbol for lovers' proposals!"

In that moment, she seemed to see a future where the entire world chose the romantic Sagittarius Golden Ring.

But it seemed Kasjia did not like this outcome.

Oh hell no, don't!

He quickly waved his hands, shaking his head frantically.

Wait, this isn't right!

If the Sagittarius Golden Ring really becomes the proposal ring, then when the Emperor appoints Horus as Warmaster, wouldn't that, wouldn't that mean—

!

Kasjia didn't dare to think about it!

But it seemed Fulgrim had misunderstood his meaning.

"Shaking your head?"

"Are you saying this wasn't a confession, but just an ordinary gift?"

Fulgrim giggled, crouching down to pinch Kasjia's cheeks, which were flushed red with anxiety.

A young man's blush is more telling than any sweet words.

"Since you're unwilling to admit it, then let me be the 'bad guy'."

With that, she returned to her workbench, took out a gold ingot, and began to hammer it delicately.

Since Kasjia was too shy to speak up, she would forge the most exquisite and perfect golden ring herself to witness this mutually agreeable political marriage.

In the future, she would use it as the basis to create the most artistic drama in the world, for billions to admire!

Fulgrim firmly believed: One day, everyone will propose with a Sagittarius Golden Ring!

This was bad.

Watching the swift-moving Fulgrim, Kasjia sank into despairing silence.

Years later, as he faced the Emperor pulling out the Sagittarius Golden Ring on Ullanor, First Lord Commander of the Third Legion Kasjia Sherlock would recall that distant afternoon of his sudden inspiration.

A few days later.

"Aren't things moving a bit too fast?"

Kasjia, who was finally allowed out of the manor in an official capacity, thought for no reason.

But it was reasonable, he supposed.

Among the twenty scattered Primarchs, Fulgrim's story of conquering his homeworld was practically on the level of a power fantasy novel.

After displaying his talent and charisma, he successfully won over the powers of several fortress-redoubts on Chemos, taking them without a single soldier and easily winning the adoration of almost everyone.

For the next thirty years until the Emperor's arrival, it was a happy and leisurely period of peaceful development.

As the Primarch who symbolized perfection, it was expected that the reclamation of his homeworld would proceed so smoothly.

The details of the marriage alliance were negotiated very smoothly by both parties.

Even though the Sherlock family didn't know how Fulgrim learned the name of the family's youngest son, or why she would cast aside all the other talented young men of the Sherlock family and insist on Kasjia, this unknown lastborn.

But it wasn't a big deal.

In the end, it was just a political marriage.

It was a union between the traditional nobles of the Kalliston Fortress—the Sherlock family—and the rapidly rising new power, Fulgrim.

After the marriage, the Sherlock family would naturally gain a renowned and beloved expert in mechanical technology, and Fulgrim could, as she had envisioned, join the ranks of Kalliston's aristocracy, gaining a noble title and name.

From a higher platform, she could then display her talents and ambitions.

It was all the result of calculated interests and transactions between both sides.

For the family's interests, it didn't really matter which son of the Sherlock patriarch Fulgrim ultimately chose.

But... did it really not matter?

Kasjia Sherlock glanced warily around the venue.

The engagement ceremony was held in a manor in the upper fortress. The decorations were lavish, with lush, neatly trimmed bushes standing guard, and decorative ribbons tied to two ancient trees at the entrance, displaying lines of characters written in ornate High Gothic script.

Although resources were scarce in Kalliston Fortress... this scarcity seemed to apply only to the workers.

The old patriarch was currently chatting with other nobles in the manor. As for the other sons of the family, especially the eldest, Herod Sherlock, Kasjia hadn't seen them at the event.

Something wasn't right.

Kasjia thought to himself. Logically, on such a solemn and crucial occasion, it was impossible for them not to be here.

The Kalliston iron fortress was divided into upper and lower levels.

The upper level was where nobles like them resided.

After Fulgrim became an engineer, she successfully repaired the fortress's power and air circulation systems, which had been damaged for countless years.

She had even obtained some plant seeds passed down from ancient times from an old eco-pod in the fortress, allowing her to establish the beginnings of indoor vertical farming and green gardens within the barren fortress.

Even in the enclosed iron forest, new shoots could sprout.

Looking at the dishes made from crops appearing on the dining table for the first time, and the crowd gathered around, savoring the novel delicacies, Kasjia couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder.

Fortunately, given the importance of this political marriage, even the workers who toiled all day in the factories benefited, getting a day of rest.

A few leading worker representatives were even granted the right to attend the banquet.

The manor was bustling with people inside and out, many of whom were guests who had come to catch a glimpse of the legendary water goddess.

Their gazes, naturally, fell mostly on the perfect female Primarch.

Today, she had changed from her usual engineer's uniform and was attending in a magnificent violet stola.

The robe was embroidered with countless ornate and complex gold-thread patterns, showcasing its owner's grace and nobility. Coupled with her flawless beauty and her divine height of nearly three meters...

All the guests present marveled at the reappearance of a goddess on earth.

As for the groom, Kasjia Sherlock?

Unfortunately, Fulgrim's primarch-level height made the not-so-short Kasjia look exceptionally miniature beside her.

If one wasn't actively looking for him, he would likely be completely overshadowed by her radiance.

Tsk.

Kasjia was a little annoyed.

When I get my Space Marine augmentations, I'll definitely tell the Apothecary to make me bigger!

Kasjia resentfully sipped the newly brewed wine, making a secret resolution.

But now was not the time to think about such things.

Fulgrim's conquest of the planet did not require war.

For the next thirty years, he would accompany Fulgrim in governing the planet, accumulating experience in internal affairs, and preparing for the Great Crusade to come.

He firmly believed that everything would develop as he expected.

Until he heard shouting from a distance.
