Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 – I Am Oscar

Heaven Dou Empire, Balak Kingdom, Shrek Academy.

Shrek Academy was poor—so poor that the entire school was basically just half a village rented out. Compared to other advanced soul master academies, this place couldn't even begin to compete.

And yet, within this tiny, shabby academy, several powerful soul masters had gathered. The weakest among them was at least at the Soul Emperor level.

One must know: a Soul Emperor was already a guest of honor in many great sects and factions. But here, in this impoverished academy, there were several of them.

The dean of Shrek Academy, Flender, was a true Soul Sage with spirit power at the seventy-fifth rank.

The vice dean, Zhao Wuji (Zhao Wou-ki), was also a Soul Sage, at the seventy-third rank. The other teachers, too, were all Soul Emperors or stronger.

Besides the teachers, Shrek had recently welcomed a new student, brought back personally by Flender. His name was Oscar.

And the most shocking thing was this: Oscar was a food-type soul master born with full innate spirit power, his martial soul being the Supreme Sausage.

Innate full spirit power! And not only that, but of the food type! This was something that had never appeared in the history of the soul master world. After all, auxiliary-type soul masters were already difficult enough to cultivate.

Food-type auxiliary soul masters were considered the hardest to grow stronger. To have one born with full innate spirit power—words were hardly needed to explain the implications.

Oscar's enrollment also marked the reopening of Shrek Academy after the previous class had graduated. One could say that Oscar was the "boss" of his generation, since at the moment… he was the academy's only student.

In the dormitory area of Shrek Academy, inside a spacious room, sat a small boy with short silver hair. Leaning by the window, he stared into the forest beyond, lost in thought.

This little boy was none other than Oscar—the academy's sole student, treasured dearly by every teacher.

At this moment, his handsome young face was filled with excitement and anticipation as he gazed out the window. He could hardly calm down, because…

He had transmigrated!

That's right—Oscar was no longer the original Oscar. Somehow, some bored god had plucked him from his old life on Blue Star, where he had simply been binge-watching anime, and dropped him here—into the Douluo Continent, into the very body of Shrek's sausage master, Oscar.

Back when he had watched the anime, he had read plenty of discussions. Many fans had analyzed that among the Shrek Seven Devils, aside from the "cheat" Tang San and the soul beast Xiao Wu, if not for the immortal herbs, Oscar might have been the only one with the potential to reach Titled Douluo.

And now, Oscar himself had become the subject of that discussion. Luckily, his martial soul had just awakened, meaning everything was only just beginning.

Excited yet restless, Oscar's mind replayed countless scenes from the original story. He searched for clues, hoping to discover some kind of "golden finger" cheat that belonged to him.

But unfortunately, this was a soul transmigration only. No cheats, no systems, no extra abilities. Whoever this idle god was, they had given him a new life without giving him any plug-ins. What kind of nonsense was that?

The only possible advantage Oscar had was the strength of his soul—or perhaps his spiritual power.

Normally, a soul master wouldn't be able to use spiritual force until at least the Soul King stage. Yet Oscar, right now, could already wield it. His spiritual strength was roughly at the Soul Elder level.

But even that was no substitute for a true cheat. At best, it made his thinking sharper and his reactions faster. And after all, Oscar was still only a food-type auxiliary soul master. In the original story, he eventually gained incredible fighting ability, but that was much, much later.

Still, Oscar found comfort in one thing: even if he accomplished nothing extraordinary, if he followed the original path, he would eventually ascend to godhood. At the very least, his destiny guaranteed him a divine seat.

But of course, Oscar was unwilling to remain just a background figure. After all, didn't he now possess foreknowledge and an outsider's perspective? Even if he couldn't become the ultimate leader, surely he wouldn't resign himself to playing sidekick again.

Bathed in the dazzling sunlight pouring through the window, Oscar's heart began to burn with passion. Since he had come here, he would shake this world to its core. This life, he would live as he pleased, doing whatever he wanted.

With his innate full spirit power, all he needed was his first spirit ring to officially become a soul master. He had already started carefully planning which spirit abilities he should aim for.

After much consideration, Oscar decided to follow roughly the same route as the original, since those spirit skills were practical and powerful. His only real complaint was that, in the early stages, he lacked any offensive ability.

But since he was now at Shrek Academy, he wasn't too worried about that. After all, Tang San might not be kind to outsiders, but to his friends, he was generous. Surely he wouldn't withhold his hidden weapons.

Even so, Oscar understood very well that his own personal strength was critical. In the original story, he had copied Tang San's twin martial souls but had been unable to use the Clear Sky Hammer. Why? Because his physical fitness wasn't enough.

That was why Oscar refused to neglect his physical training. If he wanted to copy others' martial souls and actually wield their power, he needed the foundation to handle it.

Besides, he could also eat his own sausages for boosts. With double enhancements, Oscar could very well become an all-around soul master—after all, he could copy any martial soul.

As Oscar stared out the window, lost in his fiery thoughts, a knock sounded at the door. A loud, carefree voice rang out:

"Little Ao! Today I'll take you to Star Dou Forest to get your first spirit ring. Let's go!"

It was Vice Dean Zhao Wuji.

Hearing his voice, Oscar responded quickly, opened the door, and followed him out. He had nothing to pack anyway—after all, in his memories, he was an orphan, his parents long dead.

Zhao Wuji was currently a seventy-third rank Soul Sage. Eight years later, he would reach seventy-six, and eventually even break through to Soul Douluo. His talent was solid—respectable, if not heaven-defying.

At least in this era, a Soul Sage could already walk sideways wherever he pleased. Helping Oscar find his first spirit ring was nothing more than a casual matter for him.

The Balak Kingdom wasn't far from Star Dou Forest. On foot, it was a half-month journey. By carriage, only about a week.

As for why they didn't go to the Hunting Forest? Flender had a fancy explanation—that it was to temper students' willpower. But Oscar knew the truth: Flender was simply broke and didn't have the Hunting Forest entry permit!

Still, Star Dou Forest had its advantages. It was the largest soul beast forest on the continent, home to countless varieties of beasts. Nearly any soul master could find a suitable spirit ring there—assuming they could win the fight, of course.

Thankfully, Flender had shown some humanity this time. Considering Oscar was still a child, and a food-type at that, he and Zhao Wuji traveled by carriage. In just one week, they reached a small town at the forest's edge.

After resting there for the night, Zhao Wuji and Oscar set out early the next morning, heading into Star Dou Forest to find Oscar's first spirit ring and return as soon as possible.

After all, Zhao Wuji had to cover all expenses himself. Oscar didn't have a single coin, still owed tuition, and Flender was stingy to the bone. Zhao Wuji could only grit his teeth and pay.
