Chapter 17 - Prediction

There was silence in the office for a moment, but it was broken by Felix.

"Any idea what's happening Subaru-kyun?"

Hearing that, he suddenly became thoughtful and realized something. "It might be a rough guess but I'm pretty sure that this smartphone only works for Crusch-tan, or else I would have been able to open it the first time."

That made everyone in the room thoughtful and it made sense in some way, it's the only possible explanation as to why it worked.

"I see…" Crusch started at the glowing object in her hand.

Then Subaru got closer to Crusch which made the tomboy flinch a bit, and if one looked closely they would be able to see her slight reddening.

"There's only a single app? That's odd." Subaru muttered his thoughts.

Then he tried tapping that sole app, but as he expected the phone didn't follow his command and remained as it is.

"This confirms it, definitely only you could use this smartphone Crusch."

Crusch managed to snap out of it. "Hmm? What's an app?"

Subaru scratches the back of his head, thinking how to explain this complicated term and he explains it in the simplest way he could think of. "Just think of it as the only book you could access."

In reality it's more complicated than that, but regardless, Crusch understood the information.

"That's certainly easy to understand." Then she repeated what Subaru did and pressed the icon.

And a message greeted her.

[ Congratulations! You have joined the Group Chat! ]

[ A new member has joined, please greet them with respect! 🎉 ]

Her eyes narrowed at this, despite the unfamiliar letters, she was able to read it.

"A group chat…?" Naturally she was confused as this term was very unfamiliar to her.

Subaru, who was right beside her, heard her words. "Group chat? You can actually read those words Crusch-tan?"

He pointed at the prompt on the screen, to which she nodded. "Correct, I can read it and strangely I am not familiar with these letters but I can read them fluently."

"Is that how it looks to you? Because from my perspective, those letters you speak of are nothing but a bunch of random gibberish scribbles, it's basically unrecognizable." Subaru who was using all of his brain cells trying to decipher these letters.

But unsurprisingly he failed.

The rest also tried to read the message but only to fail like Subaru did.

Only Crusch is the sole exception to this rule, it was increasingly clear that this was for her eyes only.

No one aside from her is able to access the smartphone.

However, relaying the messages inside the phone verbally was not a problem.

And so for the past few days, she started her own investigation into what this 'group chat' was while relaying the information inside to her subordinates.

In conclusion, after a few days of observing the other members of the group chat, Subaru was the first one to realize that the members of this group chat are from different realities.

Which astonished him to a shocking degree, but the rest didn't quite understand his shock so he explained in a way they could understand.

"Crusch-tan, this is huge. Like a very huge kind of thing, the people who are part of that group aren't from this kingdom or this world." Subaru looks at his audience with anticipation, but their reaction remains bland, realizing that they don't understand the gravity of this news.

"Listen, in your world's term the people who are in this very group are people who live beyond the waterfall, a civilization different from Lugnica or from other kingdoms." As soon as he dropped this bomb, their reaction was utterly shocked.

Now that was the reaction he's been waiting for, as a person from 'beyond the waterfall' this was also very shocking to him.

Having this kind of object is essentially giving someone a way to communicate to individuals from different worlds.

Anyone who is smart enough would realize how to utilize the endless possibilities of this object.

It's not everyday you can have a conversation with people from different civilizations, imagine getting some information about how their technology works and some might be replicable in their world.

And if this piece of technology was useful, one could imagine the sheer profit it might have proved.

In short this group chat is an endless source of knowledge.

The people in the office understand this too, so their reaction was given.

Different from before, they now treat this object as a sacred item rather than a strange metia.

If utilized correctly this might be a way to win the royal selection as smoothly as possible.

By using other worldly knowledge.

And so, they come to a decision to finally show her presence to the group chat, based on observing them, the other members don't seem to be malicious in nature.

They seemed like chill people, maybe except for being a little unhanged from time to time, they seemed like a civilized group of people.

So Crusch wrote her first comment in the group chat.

Gluttony's Victim: Who are you people?

Finally they showed themselves, whoever this individual is, they're definitely the cautious type.

And I wasn't the only one who thought that way, the majority of the members concluded that too.

But I can't judge them based on this alone, so I will remain observant and figure out who this character is.

I already have a mental list of who could possibly be this character, as there's a fairly short number of individuals who earned the title Gluttony's Victim.

(👑)Raiden Makoto: Well, I supposed we won't have to wait for a joint quest after all, it seemed that the new member figured out how to use the group chat themselves.

8man: It seems that this won't be another Bell Cranel incident.

Bell Cranel: Please don't call it that!

SpecialistWinter: Well, why don't you introduce yourself, you don't have to tell us your name, just general facts about yourself like your gender and age.

They were trying to ease the new member from speaking, and they were doing a good job as they introduced themselves.

Gluttony's Victim: I suppose I can do that, forgive me but I can't trust you with my name just yet, however what is this title? 

The leader of the group quickly answered their question. 

(👑)Raiden Makoto: Think of it as an accurate prophecy, as it may or may not happen to you. 

Okay, her explanation sounded way more ominous than she told me back then.

It took a while for the new member to reply, probably contemplating Makoto's advice.

Gluttony's Victim: I see, is it really that accurate?

8man: Considering it happened to me, yes it's very accurate and I advise you to listen or you might find yourself regretting it.

It's time for me to add something myself.

MartialARTish: It happened to me too.

My comment managed to gather everyone's attention, at least those who are aware of my previous nickname.

8man: Wait, it did? Knowing your previous nickname could it be…

Without hesitation I replied.

MartialARTish: That's right I got cucked.

Silence, absolute silence for a moment in the group chat, yeah that's the reaction I've been expecting.

Although it wasn't me who got cucked, it's still considered the truth after all I've inhabited this body.

And surprisingly the first to comfort me was the last person I expected.

MadHorseScientist: Are you alright?

MartialARTish: How oddly nice of you, but I'm alright.

MadHorseScientist: I'm not heartless like you think I am, regardless it's a surprise that you have a girlfriend.

MartialARTish: Former girlfriend, I crippled the guy who she cheated with so it wasn't all bad.

8man: You did that? Damn, I respect you for that. I would have done something similar if that happened to me.

SpecialistWinter: My condolence, although I could never understand the feeling of being cheated as I never experienced dating someone and hopefully I'd never experience such a thing.

(👑)Raiden Makoto: Thankfully you overcome it, I never liked NTR.

Bell, who finally got to know what a cucked is, commented.

Bell Cranel: That's horrible! How could anyone do such a thing!

How naive Bell. People do it all the time. Due to a few factors, dissatisfaction, pressure and most importantly lust.

Gluttony's Victim: I don't quite understand the situation, mind if any of you explain it to me?

(👑)Raiden Makoto: In short term, his previous nickname is CuckedLoser, which already happened according to him, that's why you should take your nickname seriously.

Gluttony's Victim: I understand.

Crusch explained what transpired in the group chat to her subordinates.

Subaru's expression winched as listened to an issue regarding a member of the mysterious group chat being NTR'd.

"Wow, that sucked. I hope he's okay because it would definitely break me if that were to happen to me." Then he kept glancing at Crusch who somewhat understood his thoughts.

Then she stared at him directly into the eyes, and said. "That will never happen to us, that I assure you."

"Nya? To us? What do you mean Crusch-snyama?" Felix knew very well what she meant, it was just he wanted to tease his lady.

To be honest he doesn't like his lady being in a relationship with another individual, but it was getting increasingly obvious that his lady has her eyes toward Subaru.

Wilhelm was also aware of this, but had no problem as he deeply respected Subaru, not to mention he treats him more like his own grandson than his actual grandchild.

Both Crusch and Subaru blushed at the attention.

But quickly recovered and Crusch said with concentrated seriousness. "If what they said is correct then I should be extremely careful with meeting the Archbishop Of Gluttony."

None of her subordinates disagree, after all it's better to be safe than sorry.
