The 'Starlit Forest' was just ahead as a four by four heavy metal armoured truck rushed through them . The truck contained four girls from the 3rd year of Class S in Stellar Academy .
"What is the mission this time ?" asked one of them
"It's to investigate a nearby city" another one said
"Which one ?" asked the same woman from the last time
"The markings showed 'East City' "
"Okay"
The four girls were Akari , Yuuki and two of their friends Kiyoko and Aori . These four S-Rank students had taken on an B1 grade mission to explore a lost ruins in this city . The one driving the car was Yuuki . Although SS-Rank Awakeners had the ability to fly but still they preferred armored cars to take on long distance missions as flying requires mana . SSS-Rank Awakeners however don't use them as flying would take less time than car and they had no problem with mana . They have over 1,000,000 points in mana which is more than enough .
The East City was a bustling city with over 5 million residents but after the apocalypse started the city was abandoned . Although many people were successful in evacuation but still they suffered defeat . Countless humans were killed when the first wave of apocalypse descended .
The Demon kings had wrecked havoc to the entire human race almost taking them to the brink of annihilation .
They reached the city as they got out of the car . The strengths of monsters increased as they enter deep and so they decided to patrol the outer regions first . The strength of SS-Rank was enough to deal with a high-grade nightmare-level monster but deeper regions contains hell-grade monsters and that is the reason they wanted to stay away from there .
The lost ruins that their location was for today was located at the outskirts of the city near the exit . This was a place used by many demons to hide and replenish themselves . The mission rewards were great too and thus they couldn't stop themselves from taking it .
As time passed they noticed something very unusual . They are here for almost 20 minutes now but they still didn't spot any monster . They were quite surprised . They walked a few more steps as they suddenly heard the rustling around them . It wasn't coming from one direction but they felt as if they were surrounded .
Suddenly , many monsters rushed towards them . The monsters quickly surrounded the four girls as they stood like a wall blocking the escape route for the girls . The monsters were all medium-grade nightmare-level monsters .
All of them were stunned . They never expected that so many monsters would appear out of the blue . Although SS-Rank Awakeners can kill high-grade nightmare-level monsters easily but they would also find themselves a little helpless against so many medium-grade monsters . There were atleast 25 of them .
Suddenly , a loud thump sound was heard as it started drawing closer and closer . The monsters of one side moved making way for someone . Then , appeared the large wolf monster . The aura radiating from its body clearly told its level .
High-Grade Hell-Level Wolf King
Kiyoko and Aori were trembling . Akari and Yuuki stood steadily as their blades were taken out from the sheath . They looked at each other before nodding as they both disappeared . Yuuki and Akari appeared behind the monsters as they started to use their offensive skills .
Cuts and Slashes appeared on the monsters bodies as they started dropping dead . The technique displayed by them was flawless and unique . They not only used their swords but also their magic .
6-Star(Ice Magic) : Ice Dominion
The surface covered in ice . One raise of Akari's hand and many spikes came out of the ground . Some were lucky and escaped while the others felt the pain of being stabbed to death . Ice Dominion was an upgraded version of Ice Prison . They both freeze the ground but one was used for trapping enemies and another could not only trap but also attack them according to the caster's will .
The Wolf King was stuck in the ground too as he saw his kin being constantly annihilated . He couldn't control his anger as a loud scream was heard .
Roar!
The Wolf King roared with rage . He knew the way his kin was kill and he knew the culprits . He just needs to avenge his brothers . It rushed towards Akari as it pounced on her .
4-Star(Ice Magic) : Ice Wall
An ice wall was formed before the wolf could land on her . The shield struck the wolf's chin as it flew away . Akari retracted her ice wall as she looked towards the wolf . Its gaze which was full of anger just moments ago gave a look which told that it felt fear . Fear of the two women in front of him .
Akari raised her hand as a ice started to gather on her hands . It took the form of a spear .
4-Star(Ice Magic) : Giant Spear of Ice
The spear pierced the hard defense of the wolf king as it fell down with a gaping hole on its chest . Akari left a sigh of relief . Yuuki placed a hand on her shoulder . They both forwarded towards the other two girls who were quite relieved now as the monsters were eliminated .
Akari's armor just now reached a glowing yellow which meant her sync rate reached 80% just now . Although , after everything was over it turned back to its original green glow which showed 70% sync rate .
They collected the corpses of the monsters . These were needed because monster corpses can be used to make many armors and weapons .
The monster corpse of a medium-grade nightmare-level monster could reach around 30,000 yen per corpse . They had atleast 25 corpses which made 750,000 yen and also a high-grade nightmare-level monster whose price is approx . 80,000 yen per corpse .
The total profit from just now was 830,000 yen . There were still monsters left inside . The four girls made their way inside the ruins they were given to investigate . Upon entering the first thing they noticed was the stench .
The smell was a mix of corpses , foul stench and blood . They started to enter deeper into the ruins until they found a relatively small room without anyone . They started moving as they discovered the rooms one by one . Some rooms were empty but some had equipment installed on their room .
The smell of iron in the air increased as they went towards the center . The center was a hall type room . The height was almost 10 feet and the area at least a 100 square meters . The room was dark as they turned on the torches installed inside their suits .
The view they saw made them tremble . The floor was covered with corpses . Most were monsters but some human bodies are also present in them . The corpses were atleast 10 years old . The exact date could be known from the laboratory .
The door beyond was completely clear . It was more like a dead point where there is no path forward . They took pictures of the corpses as they left markings on them making them easy to locate . The mission wasn't too difficult but Akari felt something was missing .
This much simple mission won't make it rank B2 grade in the Academy list . Even considering the encounter earlier , this was atmost a B1 grade . Their was something that was missing . Suddenly , the ruins started to shake violently . They were under the ground where the ruins were located . They have to escape fast otherwise the earthquake would turn them into fossil fuels .
The four of them jumped outside when suddenly the wall of the ruins got completely covered in dust and mud making it impossible to enter . She looked at the watch and it was almost 5 p.m. They spent 2 hours in a blink on the mission . They had to return to the city quickly because it wasn't safe for humans to stay in the wilderness at night .
