Chapter 9 - Blind date banquet

After Grant arrived at the location, all the dishes were already served in the private room.

"Oh, Grant is here."

"Sister Reed, is this the useless guy you were talking about earlier?"

Lydia had invited nearby neighbors and had heard about Grant before. When she saw him come in, she smiled and greeted him. Grant nodded in greeting and silently sat down next to Daisy.

"Don't mind him, let's continue eating."

Lydia snorted coldly and couldn't stand the sight of Grant. She wished she could kick him out right now.

"By the way, Sister Reed, did you invite us here for a special occasion?"

"I heard from Sister Reed that there's going to be a special guest coming."

A slightly chubby woman spoke up and sat towards Lydia, curious about who the guest was.

"Don't worry, he'll be here soon." Lydia smiled.

"Mrs. Reed, you're making me anxious."

"Yes."

Just as everyone was curious about who the guest was, there was a sudden knock on the door. Lydia immediately stood up from her chair and eagerly walked over to open the door.

Outside the door stood a man in a white suit holding flowers. He was tall and handsome.

"Hello, Aunt." The man in the white suit bowed with a smile on his face.

"Derek, you finally made it?" Lydia quickly welcomed Derek in. "These are your old neighbors. Do you still recognize them?"

"This is Derek?"

"Wow, you've changed so much after staying abroad for so long."

The neighbors were also surprised and realized that Lydia had invited them all here today because Derek, their former neighbor's son, had returned after five years of living overseas.

No wonder Lydia had called them all here.

"Come, sit here." Lydia led Derek to Daisy's side and glared at Grant, scolding, "You useless person, get out of the way!"

"I haven't finished eating yet."

Grant looked up at Lydia and calmly said.

"You, useless person, how dare you argue with me?!" Lydia was almost driven crazy by Grant's first refusal.

"Aunt, it's okay, I can sit anywhere." Derek intervened, but his eyes kept scanning Grant up and down.

It was said that Daisy had married a useless person, and now it seemed to be true.

Derek looked at Daisy again.

Derek's eyes widened immediately! Her curvaceous figure was like ripe honey peaches, just looking at her made his mouth dry. And from his experience with countless women, he could tell that Daisy was still a young girl!

I must have her! Derek swallowed hard and found an empty seat to sit down. He took out a box from his pocket and handed it to Lydia, saying, "Aunt, I just returned to the country, and this is a gift I prepared for you."

Lydia opened the box with joy, and inside was a necklace with a dazzling ruby that shone brightly under the light.

Everyone was surprised and exclaimed, "Wow, what a beautiful necklace!"

"Of course," Derek nodded, but his proud gaze was on Daisy. "This is a ruby I bought in France and specially asked the British master Tony to make it. There are also diamonds below, made of platinum, which symbolizes wealth, longevity, and colorful prosperity."

"Wow, Derek, you really put your heart into it," Lydia smiled happily, "This gift must be very expensive."

"It's not that expensive, just over 500,000 US dollars, bought with my pocket money," Derek said casually, but his mouth couldn't hide his pride.

"My goodness!"

"Over 500,000 US dollars, converted into Chinese currency, is at least over 3 million!"

"Derek, what are you doing in America now? You can earn so much money!"

Everyone looked at him with envy.

They never thought that their neighbor who lived next door five years ago could soar to become a person in the upper class.

"Haha, I just opened a few companies and did overseas trading," Derek waved his hand and said, "It's not worth mentioning."

"It's not worth mentioning? Then what are we? You're too modest." "By the way, Derek, do you have a girlfriend now?"

Someone spoke up at this moment.

"After I left, I haven't been looking," Derek said, looking deeply at Daisy, "Actually, I've been in love with a girl all along."

"Wow! Such a romantic boy, there aren't many like you now!"

Derek's words caused another round of exclamations in the private room.

"Good, really good. It's a pity that my daughter married a loser early. If I had a son-in-law like you, I would have enjoyed a comfortable life long ago," Lydia seemed to glance at Daisy sitting next to her, with a hint of meaning, and said, "Right, daughter?"

Daisy was slightly annoyed, "Mom, what are you talking about! Grant is here!"

"What's the difference whether this loser is here or not?" Lydia didn't care at all.

Derek noticed the disdain on Lydia's face and couldn't help but sneer inwardly.

In order to pursue Daisy, he had already investigated their marriage and Grant's background. That was why he had appeared so boldly tonight at Lydia's invitation.

However, Derek still pretended as if he had just found out and looked down at Grant, saying, "Oh? So you're Daisy's husband? I wonder, what do you do for a living?"

Grant's face turned cold, and he clenched his fists under the table. He was not stupid. How could he not see the purpose of Lydia's dinner party? It was simply a blind date to humiliate him in public and contrast him with Derek, in order to deepen Derek's impression in Daisy's heart! Grant couldn't be bothered to respond to such a person.

"Hmph, Derek, don't mind him. He's just a useless freeloader who eats at home all day!" Lydia snorted.

"Aunt Lydia, please don't say that. A man must have his own career," Derek pretended to be concerned and continued to say to Grant, "Grant, I don't know what your qualifications are, but I know the CEO of Visionary Company. With my recommendation, I can get you a suitable position."

"Me?" Grant was getting impatient. "No diploma."

"No diploma?"

"Hahaha, how could you not have a diploma, Grant? Did you not even go to middle or high school?"

"No wonder he stays at home all day. He's just a bottom-feeder in society. If it weren't for the James Family, he wouldn't survive."

"It's okay," Derek waved his hand and continued in a successful tone, "there are many bosses who started from scratch and made it big. Grant, as long as you're willing to work hard, you can succeed. How about this, Grant? Come to Visionary Company tomorrow and I can give you a security position."

"Security is better than sitting at home all day waiting to die! Useless, you should thank him!" Lydia glanced at him and said, "Otherwise, when you get divorced and kicked out of the James Family, you'll have to beg on the streets for food!"

"Getting divorced?"

Derek chuckled. He had already revealed his identity to Daisy's mother and won her favor. Once Daisy got divorced, everything would fall into place. "It's nothing, just a small favor. How about this, Grant, you come to Visionary Company tomorrow and mention my name when you report in," said the speaker.

"What makes you think you can help me find a job?" Grant raised an eyebrow and replied coolly.

The words fell.

The entire compartment fell silent in an instant.
