Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Lai Lai Divine Sect Shows Divine Might

As Xin Lailai, whose expectations had just been dashed, was about to close the public channel interface, a line of text suddenly appeared, accompanied by a notification sound. His eyes lit up.

[Bible Holder]Bai Hua: "Can a newcomer who came in because of 4296 see this?"

[Bible Holder]Bai Hua: "Never mind, you can't speak right now anyway, so I'll post it here. Whether you see it in time depends on your luck."

[Bible Holder]Bai Hua: "Newcomer, remember: if you face a huge risk and have no way out, follow my instructions."

[Bible Holder]Bai Hua: "Repeat the phrase 'Great Lai Lai bless me' in the most sincere tone until your Luck attribute changes."

[Bible Holder]Bai Hua: "Be sincere and earnest. That way, you might just get lucky enough to save your little life!"

Messages flashed across Xin Lailai's screen faster than he could read. Puzzled, he muttered to himself:

"Silently chanting 'Great Lai Lai bless me' can save my life? What kind of nonsense is this?"

Despite his doubts, the approaching sounds of fighting and screaming spurred him into action. He squatted in the corner of the latrine, enduring a stench strong enough to make him dizzy, clasped his hands like a devout believer, and began chanting:

"Great Lai Lai bless me, Great Lai Lai bless me, Great Lai Lai…"

In just half a minute, he repeated the phrase nearly twenty times, his words slurring slightly by the end. Only when his mouth grew dry did he stop, covering his mouth and nose to breathe.

"I wonder if chanting that did anything at all…"

His thoughts froze as he glanced toward the latrine door—and his face went pale.

A tall knight stood there, staring at him with a strange expression. Xin Lailai's previous behavior—squatting in a latrine, muttering prayers—had clearly bewildered him. But the knight wasn't there to question him.

Step by step, the knight advanced. The stench of blood on him mixed with the latrine's foul smell, making Xin Lailai's eyes water. His legs trembled, but his body refused to obey his urge to run.

"It's over… it's over… it's over!" Xin Lailai whispered in panic.

A flash of steel cut through the air—a blood-stained longsword slashed toward him.

Suddenly, Xin Lailai felt his legs weaken, his body going limp. By sheer luck, he collapsed just in time to narrowly avoid the blow. Then, a miraculous scene unfolded:

The knight's missed slash struck the latrine wall behind Xin Lailai. The wall collapsed, sending Xin Lailai backward and out of the way. Beneath the knight's feet, the wooden floor gave way, plunging him into the cesspool. Moments later, the roof crashed down, hitting the knight's unprotected head.

Only then did Xin Lailai notice a line of text at the edge of his vision:

[Team Skill: 'Praise Lailai' successfully activated. Xin Lailai Luck +49, remaining duration 58 minutes 51 seconds]

He quickly opened his character panel.

[Luck: 50]

Xin Lailai stared at the number, then jumped up excitedly:

"Lai Lai is awesome! Long live the Lai Lai Divine Sect!"

50 points of Luck—25 times the average adult male's, 50 times his own! No… this wasn't normal luck.

Looking at the ruins, he realized this was more like a causality weapon. Was it an otherworldly version of Final Destination?

A series of prompts followed:

[Contractor successfully killed a Slane Theocracy soldier][Contractor gained World Source: 0.5%][Currently obtained World Source: 0.5%][You obtained Treasure Chest (White)][This is your first kill. Storage Space opened (1 cubic meter). It will expand as your Contractor's Mark level increases.]

Opening the treasure chest, Xin Lailai found:

Bahas Empire Standard Armor ×1

Bahas Empire Standard Long Sword ×1

Universal Gold Coins ×10

Paradise Points ×100

He picked up the long sword, then threw it aside, noticing items opened from the chest displayed detailed information:

[Bahas Empire Standard Long Sword (White)]

He read all the introductory prompts about Equipment, Paradise Points, and the Semi-Datafied Template, nodding thoughtfully.

"Aside from introducing Semi-Datafied after combat, everything seems fine… though someone new might think their health points only decrease when hit. That would be dangerous."

Looking toward Karn Village, Xin Lailai saw the massacre continue—executioners slaughtering villagers, unnoticed by him.

"Did my 'Little Transparent' talent also get stronger thanks to Luck?"

He weighed his options: rush in to kill knights and farm rewards—or do nothing. Fear told him the only choice was to do nothing. With Ainz Ooal Gown on the scene, reckless action would make him a target.

He settled in among the captured villagers, squatting quietly.

A deafening roar tore through the air. A giant Black Shadow descended, swatting knights aside—a Death Knight, the Undead King's 'weak' creature, made its first terrifying appearance.
