"DXD: Infinite Loot System"Chapter 335: Vali's Transmission
After dinner, the mood in the hall was relaxed. Ravel emerged from her room and crossed the floor to Tenra.
"Tenra-sama, there's a transmission from Vali."
"Vali?" Tenra blinked in surprise, drawing Rias's attention—and that of every girl in the room.
"Well, this is unusual. Go ahead, patch him through."
Tenra stroked his chin with a faint smile. Ravel tapped her wand against the floor; a magic circle unfurled, and Vali's projection shimmered into view.
"Tenra Kamiyo. Rias Gremory."
Vali's voice was as cool and composed as ever, his gaze sweeping across Tenra, Rias, and the assembled group.
"Vali, what brings you to contact us out of the blue?" Tenra asked, absentmindedly ruffling Ophis's hair.
"I have important information to share. But first—" Vali's gaze settled on Ophis. "Ophis, how are things with Tenra Kamiyo?"
Ophis, perched on Tenra's lap and munching an apple, answered without looking up, "Not bad."
"Not bad, huh…" Vali considered her reply, then moved on.
"After Ophis joined you, I had Bikou impersonate her within the Khaos Brigade to keep up appearances. Eventually, though, Cao Cao saw through the ruse. He and his Hero Faction are now actively hunting for Ophis's whereabouts. With their resources, it's only a matter of time before they track you down."
The news sent a ripple of alarm through the room. Rias frowned; Tenra's expression grew serious.
"They're searching for Ophis? Are they trying to bring her back to the Brigade?" Rias demanded.
"No. Judging by his recent actions, Cao Cao isn't interested in retrieving Ophis. He wants her dead."
Vali's words were delivered with chilling calm, but their impact was anything but.
"Kill Ophis? That's absurd!" Rias snapped, anger flashing across her face.
Vali wasn't exactly an enemy, but he was far from a friend. Neither Rias nor the others fully trusted him. And his claim sounded insane—Cao Cao and his heroes, plotting to kill the invincible Ophis? Had they lost their minds?
"Rias Gremory, believe it or not, this is the reality as I understand it." Vali's tone cooled even further, a hint of irritation in his eyes.
Tension thickened in the room. Tenra knew he couldn't let the argument spiral.
"Alright, enough. Calm down, both of you." He offered Rias a gentle look. "Rias, I know it's hard to swallow, but Vali wouldn't joke about something this serious."
He turned to Vali. "Can you give us more details?"
"Whatever they're planning, it seems they've developed some method to counter Ophis. That's all I know for now." Vali's gaze sharpened. "Tenra Kamiyo, Rias Gremory—if Ophis is killed, you don't need me to spell out the consequences. I'll take action on my end. You'd better be ready on yours."
With that, Vali's projection flickered and vanished, ending the call before anyone could ask another question.
"That bastard!" Rias hissed, clenching her fists.
Regardless of the truth behind his warning, Vali's attitude was infuriating.
"Tenra-sama, Vali wouldn't lie," Ravel said quietly.
"Um… well…" She looked between Rias and Tenra, clearly torn. It wasn't easy being the go-between.
"Don't worry, Ravel. Vali is Vali, but you're you. No one's doubting the message," Tenra said, gently smoothing her hair.
Ravel relaxed, a smile returning to her face.
Tenra turned to Ophis, who was still focused on her apple. "Ophis, Cao Cao's coming for you. Any thoughts?"
Ophis paused, tilting her head. It took her a moment to recall the name. "We'll handle it when he gets here," she said, and went back to eating.
Tenra and the girls exchanged silent glances. Ophis's calm was almost surreal.
Still, her indifference didn't mean they could relax. Vali was far too proud to fabricate a story like this, and if Cao Cao dared go after Ophis, he must have something up his sleeve.
This wasn't a minor threat. Tenra asked Rias to get in touch with Azazel.
But—
"Lately, there's a power stirring in the Underworld. I'm completely tied up here. I'll have to leave the Ophis situation to you," Azazel replied, dumping the entire problem in their laps. Rias nearly lost her temper and would've thrown a spell at his projection if she could.
After confirming the facts with her brother Sirzechs, Rias finally calmed down.
The Hero Faction hunting Ophis, the Underworld in turmoil—too much coincidence for comfort.
"Tenra, what do we do now?" All eyes turned to him. Whatever happened, he was the anchor of the household.
"This isn't good…" Tenra muttered. "Nobody goes out unless necessary. I'll ask Sona to take care of things at school."
"If Vali's right, the Hero Faction will find us soon. For now, everyone stays together, stays alert, and gets ready to fight at a moment's notice."
His orders were cautious, but there was no other choice.
The enemy lurked in the shadows; they had to play defense.
Under Tenra's direction, Rias contacted Sona to explain the situation. Yubelluna and the others reinforced the villa's barriers, preparing for attack. Even at night, familiars patrolled the grounds.
The Kamiyo household shifted into full alert, waiting for the enemy to strike.
The first two days passed quietly. On the third day…
