Chapter 243 - Tony: In my eyes, you're all monkeys

During this process, Helen Zhao clearly showed interest in Thor.

This made Thor nod in satisfaction. He was indeed very charming. That annoying guy before had said he wasn't much to look at.

You monsters, all of you are strangely shaped, and you have the nerve to comment on my appearance?

In the scene, Tony Stark quickly pulled Bruce Banner outside and showed him the Mind Scepter.

Tony Stark also explained his idea to Bruce Banner: "This way, we can also figure out where Strucker got his creativity. So I analyzed this gem, and inside, you might find something!"

Tony Stark projected a virtual image of Jarvis, a mass of orange-yellow data.

"At first, Jarvis was just a natural language user interface. Now he commands the Iron Legion! Except for Pepper, he handles more tasks than anyone else, he's a big shot!"

The Tony Stark in the scene was also telling someone else for the first time about the process of creating Jarvis.

It was certainly not something that happened overnight, especially at the beginning, when there was nothing to refer to.

Jarvis's formation was, in itself, a process of constant accumulation.

In contrast, there was another mass of blue data released by Tony Stark. It resembled a human brain, and compared to Jarvis, this new blue artificial intelligence was clearly more like a human brain.

"This is really beautiful!" Bruce Banner said, a look of disbelief on his face as he looked at the projection.

"Then guess what it's doing?" Tony Stark said, coaxing.

"It's like it's thinking!" Bruce Banner cautiously speculated. "I mean, it might... but it's not a human brain, but, I mean... look... it's like neurons firing!"

Bruce Banner stared at the scene in shock, watching the projection before him.

"In Strucker's lab, I saw some super-advanced robots at work. They destroyed the data, but, I guess, it's working on some cutting-edge technology..." Tony Stark said.

"You mean, an artificial intelligence?" Bruce Banner asked.

"It's very possible. Maybe, this is the key to developing Ultron!" Tony Stark said.

"I thought Ultron was just a fantasy!" Bruce Banner said with some doubt.

"It was yesterday, but what if we could use this energy and apply it to the Iron Legion's programming..." Tony Stark said excitedly.

"That's a crazy hypothesis!" Bruce Banner continued.

Tony Stark tried to persuade him, continuing, "We exist for hypotheses. Suppose you were lying in the sun, on a beach, drinking cocktails, and your body turned brown instead of green, what would you think?"

"Then I wouldn't have to go back and find Veronica..."

Tony Stark coaxed him.

And this Veronica is precisely the Hulkbuster Armor. Bruce Banner shook his head; he had played a part in the Hulkbuster Armor's creation, and he didn't mind having one.

He deeply understood the terrifying impact the Hulk could have once he went berserk.

"Don't be like that, I helped design Veronica!" Bruce Banner responded.

"But that's just for the worst-case scenario, right?" Tony Stark said. "What's the best-case scenario? Is this world very safe? The next time aliens invade, will they be turned away?"

"But the ones threatening Earth are us humans!" Bruce Banner was still hesitant, he said.

"I want to use it for Ultron's program, but Jarvis can't download it. With such high-density data diagrams, we can only do it when the Mind Scepter is present. Give me three days, just three days!" Tony Stark continued to try and persuade Bruce Banner.

"So you wanted to build artificial intelligence, but didn't want to tell the team!" Bruce Banner finally realized.

He finally understood Tony Stark's idea.

Tony Stark wanted to copy the data scanned from the Mind Scepter, and then use this string of data as the core foundation to produce Ultron.

Tony Stark didn't want to deny it either, and nodded, saying, "Yes, that's right. Do you know the reason? Because we don't have time to listen to their endless arguments, I don't want to hear nonsense about who is right and who is wrong. I want to armor this world!"

"Your world is a bit cold!" Bruce Banner said.

"There's something colder. This fragile blue planet needs Ultron!" Tony Stark said. "Our peace, imagine... our peace, imagine!"

And everyone outside the screen watched Tony Stark and Bruce Banner secretly begin to create Ultron, their faces extremely solemn. The amount of information revealed in this conversation was simply too much.

It was enough to explain many things they didn't understand before.

Some of their previous guesses were correct, and some were not.

The correct part, for example, why they wanted to create Ultron, was to deal with the invasion of aliens.

Tony Stark was a severe sufferer of persecution paranoia, which they were very clear about, so he would try everything to enhance the strength of the human side.

But they were also wrong about some things. The reason Ultron went astray, even deviating from Tony Stark's underlying design, probably wasn't just because he got confused between protecting the Earth and protecting humanity. Instead, the problem might have been the data scanned from the Mind Stone within the Mind Scepter, which fundamentally skewed Ultron's development.

This was different from an artificial intelligence like Jarvis; this was a true artificial intelligence lifeform.

Jarvis was only a weak artificial intelligence, while this was absolutely capable of creating a lifeform with intelligence like a human.

And obviously, Vision was probably the kind of artificial intelligence Tony Stark initially hoped to create, but the result was Ultron.

It was truly a matter of time and fate.

And Tony Stark further realized what Lin Feng had mentioned in his diary: what it meant that the underlying structure of the entire Marvel universe could be explained by science.

Even a divine object like the Mind Stone, which originated from the Big Bang, could be analyzed and broken down into computer data.

But he still underestimated what kind of life could be created from the data within the Mind Stone.

"Tony, although your intentions are good, the you of the future became a bit too arrogant..." Nick Fury sighed. "In your eyes, are we already so stubborn that we don't accept any new technology?"

Everyone nodded in agreement. Clearly, in the eyes of Tony Stark after the Battle of New York, even the Avengers might become obstacles, or rather, they simply couldn't comprehend Tony Stark's grand ideas.

Because many people weren't so trusting of high-tech, such as Captain Rogers, who was from over seventy years ago.

Even Tony Stark himself was wary of artificial intelligence, but his distrust of the others was almost obvious.

He didn't even want to talk to them, what did that mean? It meant he didn't even consider their intelligence to be on the same level as his, and he felt that communicating with them was a waste of time.

However, what made them even more speechless was that even though Tony Stark was arrogant, that arrogance was actually correct.

Although they had repelled the Chitauri invasion in 2012, for an alien civilization like the Chitauri, that setback was nothing, not even a drop in the bucket.

He really didn't have much time left. Would they still be arguing internally at that point, debating a proposal for three to five years?

As it turned out, Tony Stark was right. In just six years, the Chitauri descended again, or rather, Thanos descended.

Thanos revealed his terrifying power.

So, it couldn't be said that Tony Stark's worries were unfounded. On the contrary, his worries were very, very valid. But the problem was that it didn't matter how right he was if he couldn't get things done, and that was the biggest problem.

And Tony Stark had that problem. He needed a more powerful AI, a real AI, not a weak AI like Jarvis.

So, he took it upon himself to create the envisioned Ultron.

"Well, I was too rash. Perhaps the me on the Sacred Timeline had some premonitions, but not enough evidence to prove it!" Tony Stark thought, then said.

Tony Stark sighed, obviously, creating Ultron wasn't just about needing a differentiated AI. Most importantly, he was no longer satisfied with Jarvis's performance.

He needed a more powerful, more comprehensive, and truly intelligent AI.

So, he incorporated a lot of the Mind Stone's framework into it, which surprisingly resembled a computer invented by humans.

The technology inside was too advanced, even for him to fully grasp at the moment.

"Tony, we don't understand this stuff very well, but at least we know one thing: you're being too headstrong!" Captain Rogers said.

Tony Stark was silent for a moment before finally saying, "But this also lets me breathe a sigh of relief because it proves the underlying code is fine. The problem isn't with my framework; the real issue is the data model within the Mind Stone. I'll be more careful in the future and discuss any similar actions with everyone!"
