Chapter 114 - Thanos is so strong and he's just a First Phase villain?

It was already incredibly difficult just to get back up.

"In all the worlds I've conquered, there was only brutality and slaughter, never personal feelings. But now, I will show you how I will deal with your stubborn, loathsome, insignificant little planet!"

Thanos's voice was ice cold. He was completely enraged by Captain Rogers.

He hadn't taken Tony Stark and Thor seriously during their fight; he was simply enjoying the battle. He was going to reset the entire universe afterward, so he had no emotions to spare.

But now, he was thoroughly angered by Captain Rogers. This insignificant little person had managed to wound him, and he was truly angry.

"I will savor this process, and I will enjoy it immensely!"

As his words fell, countless teleportation circles flickered with light. The remaining members of the Black Order appeared, followed by an endless wave of Chitauri troops, mixed with other alien legions.

Tens of thousands, an endless tide, capable of drowning everything!

Moreover, it was an alien army. Facing such a terrifying situation, everyone was suffocating. Under these circumstances, did humanity even have a future?

Could they really protect humanity?

Facing this terrifying alien army, Captain Rogers struggled to his feet. He hadn't given up. After securing his shield, he looked toward the alien army.

Backed into a corner with no way out.

At this point, he had no other choices. He could only give it his all, even if it meant death. There was no other option.

The entire scene was chilling, terrifying.

On the left, there was only Captain Rogers. On the right, an endless alien legion of Thanos's forces. The scene was frozen.

The entire frame was filled with loneliness and despair, sending shivers down your spine.

And the screen ended there!

Everyone was caught off guard by the scene. To be precise, they weren't prepared to see such a devastating situation. Their original plan was to watch Captain Rogers make a fool of himself.

To see how he pretended he couldn't lift Mjolnir, but was secretly practicing all his moves.

Even Lin Feng's diary was filled with this mocking, lighthearted tone.

But what happened? What did they see? They saw boundless despair.

In yesterday's video, the human army was almost completely defenseless against the Chitauri invasion. They barely managed to win, relying on nuclear weapons and the Chitauri's absurd technology.

Actually, it was mostly luck.

Of course, the most important thing was that the main Chitauri army didn't actually reach Earth. They only used a traitor to place a portal device on Earth. It was only by destroying the device that they barely managed to cut off the Chitauri army.

Otherwise, how could a civilization be limited to just one large mothership?

It's like someone today thinking that destroying a US aircraft carrier battle group would end the fight.

That's just the beginning of the battle.

And that bit of luck was only achieved because of the Avengers' ridiculously powerful combat ability.

In other words, that little bit of luck, that so-called Plot Armor, was actually earned bit by bit by the Avengers through their overwhelming strength.

But now, the three most powerful Avengers, the big three, are being utterly crushed by Thanos.

Although Hulk hasn't appeared yet, given that no other Avengers have shown up since the start of the battle, they have to admit that Hulk might already be dead at Thanos' hands.

"Say, the Earth's military, they haven't been wiped out, have they?" Hawkeye Barton said. "The gap between the two sides is just too big..."

Hawkeye Barton's words startled everyone, and it seemed like it wasn't impossible. At least, the scene didn't show any sign of human troops, or even people, to be exact.

What does this mean?

It means Earth's army is probably wiped out.

And frankly, even if Earth's army had come, it wouldn't have helped. The Avengers represent Earth's top combat power, but they got beaten up by Thanos. How could an army of ordinary people fight an alien legion? The difference in civilization level is enough to crush everything.

This isn't something a few strong individuals can solve.

"This future is too desperate. If we face this kind of future, can we win?" Hawkeye Barton said. "But didn't we win later? Otherwise, that kid Peter Parker wouldn't have gone to college, right? If the universe restarted..."

"But there's a problem. Didn't Lin Feng mention it in his diary? That correct timeline, to be precise, that's the original correct timeline, where we could possibly achieve the final victory. But we're not on that original correct timeline..." Tony Stark said. "If time is like a tree, we might just be a branch derived from the main trunk. And these branches aren't the same as the trunk, or rather, the earlier parts of the branches might be the same, but the subsequent developments could be wildly different. After all, haven't we seen the events of other timelines? One of them even had Clint shooting Thor with an arrow!"

"So on that so-called correct timeline, we paid a huge price, possibly including our lives. It seemed like we won in the end, but the problem is, that was just us on that timeline. But in reality? Do we have that fate? Timelines, every choice creates a new timeline. What are our chances of winning?"

Tony Stark laid out a very cruel reality: not all timelines can achieve final victory. There are many divergent timelines, and there are also the timelines Lin Feng calls "abandoned timelines." They don't know what the so-called abandoned timelines are, but without a doubt, just hearing it doesn't sound good.

"So, we're doomed?" Hill asked.

"No, not necessarily. Or rather, we have hope," Tony Stark shook his head. "Our task now is, before the final battle, to find out as much as possible how we did it on that so-called correct timeline, and how we finally defeated Thanos. We can try to learn from what we did on that timeline. In other words, it's not hopeless..."

"But the hope is slim..." Captain Rogers said. "From what we've seen, we've fought Thanos more than once. The first battle didn't go well, leaving only the three of us. As for the second, frankly, I don't see any hope. Even if there is, it'll likely depend on luck. With our current strength, we have no chance of winning."

Captain Rogers' words deflated everyone, but no one blamed him for being so pessimistic. They had all witnessed his efforts, how he hadn't given up even at the very end, when all seemed lost.

Even facing an army of aliens, he fought until the very last moment.

This image completely won everyone over to Captain America. He wasn't some manufactured saint; he was the real deal.

Even Tony Stark, who usually disliked Captain Rogers' old-fashioned ways, had to show respect.

It was like last time, when Captain Rogers was impressed by Tony Stark. Unexpectedly, in a crucial moment, Tony Stark proved reliable and was willing to sacrifice himself to protect humanity.

This time, it was Tony Stark's turn to admire Captain Rogers, genuine admiration. The many legends about Captain America weren't false; his character lived up to them.

For a moment, the two men began to appreciate each other from the bottom of their hearts.

"The key is still those stones. We want to use them to turn the tables, while Thanos wants to use them to restart the universe. Although we don't know how he'll do it, there's no doubt those stones are the key!" Nick Fury said.

Everyone nodded. Indeed, although they didn't know how their counterparts in the correct timeline had done it, they were very clear on the core issue.

"But how do we find those stones? At least we need to know what they are, right? What if we need to search the entire universe to collect them?" Hawkeye Barton asked.

"The key clue is still with Lin Feng. He's the only one who might know how to do this now. Most importantly, I see that while he fears Thanos, he isn't overly pessimistic, which means he might have a plan…" Black Widow Natasha said.

Everyone thought about it. Indeed, according to Lin Feng's character, if he wasn't in a rush, it meant he might have a way to handle it.

"But guys, we've only encountered the villains of the First Phase in Lin Feng's words. I don't know how he divides the Marvel Universe's phases, but there should be some famous events or time points as dividing lines. In other words, if we use Thanos's strength as a reference—his power is enough to kill half the life in this universe, even restart it—then what about the villains of the Second Phase?

Even if their strength is similar to Thanos, how can we defeat one supervillain after another?" Nick Fury looked at everyone.
