Chapter 116: The Tsunade Squad Assembles

The next day, in the classroom of fifth-year Class A.

Hoshikawa and the others were seated, waiting for the team assignments to be announced.

"Please let it be Rin!" Obito Uchiha prayed, his hands clasped together.

"Good morning, everyone." Just then, Shisui Uchiha walked into the classroom, greeting them with a smile.

"Shisui?" Asuma Sarutobi asked, surprised. "What are you... Oh! Are you on a team with us?"

"I'm guessing that's the case," Shisui said with a slight nod. "But I don't know who the others are."

"Well, no matter who it is, at least we're together again," Asuma said, satisfied. He wondered if this was all part of that man's plan.

A little over ten minutes later, Ron'ichirō walked into the classroom. Everyone immediately stopped chatting and looked at him, filled with anticipation.

"Congratulations on your graduation," Ron'ichirō said with a solemn expression. "But the outside world is not like the academy. It's full of danger, so you must be cautious in all things." As a teacher, he had seen too many students die. When a class graduated, if they were to face a major ninja war, less than half would survive. It was truly a cruel world.

"I will now announce the teams," Ron'ichirō's expression softened. "Hoshikawa ."

Kurenai Yūhi, Obito Uchiha, and the others suddenly tensed up.

"Kurenai Yūhi." Ron'ichirō continued.

"Yes!" Kurenai stood up excitedly.

Asuma had a bad feeling about this. Just as Hoshikawa had said, it was unlikely they would be on the same team. At the same time, he felt a pang of envy. Hoshikawa was a true "winner at life."

"Rin Nohara." Ron'ichirō looked at the list. "The three of you are on Team 1."

"No!" Obito felt as if he had been struck by lightning. He stood up reflexively and shouted, "Why is it Rin?!"

Rin was stunned for a moment before she processed the news. I'm on a team with Hoshikawa ? She was quite surprised. Under normal circumstances, a ninja team would only have one medical-ninja. She had given up hope of being on the same team, but the result exceeded her imagination. However, she was very happy to be on a team with Hoshikawa . One of the biggest benefits was that she could learn medical ninjutsu from him.

"Obito, this is the Hokage's decision," Ron'ichirō said, shaking his head.

"I'm going to find him!" Obito's eyes went bloodshot as all sorts of emotions welled up, causing him to lose all reason. A cold, ominous aura spread, and in his eyes, a single black tomoe appeared.

A Sharingan? Ron'ichirō subconsciously took half a step back.

"Obito!" Rin was startled and quickly grabbed him.

"Rin, I—" Obito looked at her and snapped back to his senses.

"Obito, your eyes!" Might Guy suddenly noticed the change.

Obito paused for a moment, then realized what had happened. He instinctively clenched his fists. Power! He could feel the power surging through him!

"Hahahaha!" Obito couldn't help but laugh out loud. "I've awakened it! I've finally awakened the Sharingan!"

"Congratulations, Obito-senpai," Shisui Uchiha said, a strange mix of emotions in his heart. He knew how many Uchiha in the clan awakened their Sharingan, but most of the time it was after witnessing a teammate's death on a mission or on the battlefield. This was the first time he had ever seen an awakening like Obito's.

Kakashi and Asuma were surprised, but not overly so. After all, they had seen Shisui's Sharingan multiple times. Compared to Shisui, Obito's awakening was years late.

Hoshikawa had sensed it beforehand, so he remained calm. What kind of power is this? The power of being cuckolded? No, that wasn't right. After all, Rin never explicitly expressed her feelings for Obito in the original story.

"Quiet down!" Ron'ichirō cleared his throat and continued. "Team 2: Shisui Uchiha, Asuma Sarutobi, and Shizune."

"Asuma-senpai, I look forward to working with you," Shisui said, looking at Asuma. As for Shizune, who was sitting further away, he could only offer a nod.

"No problem," Asuma said, feeling quite satisfied with being on a team with Shisui.

Shizune was a little dazed. She hadn't expected to have two such talented teammates. But it was certainly a good thing.

"Team 3," Ron'ichirō announced. "Kakashi Hatake, Obito Uchiha, and Might Guy."

"Kakashi!" Guy stood up reflexively, his face a picture of excitement. "This is our bond of youth!"

Kakashi was filled with a sense of helplessness. His worst fear had come true. It seemed there would be no escape from torment now.

Only Obito was dejected. Not only had he failed to get on a team with Rin, but he had watched her become teammates with Hoshikawa . It was a nightmare! The joy of awakening his Sharingan couldn't wash away the sorrow in his heart.

"Team 3," a voice said as Minato Namikaze appeared in the doorway.

"Obito, it's Minato-sama!" Rin recognized him and said with a look of surprise.

Obito slowly raised his head. He remembered who he was—the student of one of the Legendary Sannin, Jiraiya, and a representative of the current generation of Konoha ninjas. This lifted his spirits a little. At least his sensei wasn't bad. Maybe he could beat Hoshikawa one day. No! He would! Obito thought of his Sharingan, and that power filled him with confidence. He might not be able to beat Hoshikawa with a single tomoe, but a three-tomoe Sharingan would certainly do the trick.

"Let's go," Kakashi said, standing up.

"Kakashi, Obito, see you tomorrow," Rin waved to them.

After Minato, the next to arrive was Sakumo Hatake. He scanned the students in the classroom and gave a hearty smile.

"Team 2," Sakumo said.

"Our sensei is the White Fang of Konoha!" Asuma said, very pleased with the arrangement. Shisui and Shizune were also happy to hear the name of the famed Sakumo Hatake. But unlike the boisterous Asuma, they simply stood up quietly.

In the end, only Hoshikawa , Rin, and Kurenai were left.

"Hoshikawa ," Kurenai waited for a while before asking, "Is our team leader Tsunade-sama?"

"Yeah," Hoshikawa sighed. "She's probably still sleeping in."

"Huh?" Rin looked at him, shocked. In her mind, Tsunade was the greatest medical-ninja and her idol.

"I knew it," Kurenai said, having gotten used to Tsunade's true nature from Hoshikawa 's constant complaints.

Rin looked back and forth at them, wanting to say something but deciding against it. Tsunade's image was suddenly on shaky ground.

Another half hour passed before the door was pushed open.

"Hey, everyone!" Tsunade said loudly. "I'm your team leader, Tsunade!"

"You're late, Sensei," Hoshikawa said, a bit annoyed.

"Don't talk back, you little punk," Tsunade said, glaring at him and flicking his forehead. "Alright, now you three, come with me."

With that, she turned and walked out. Rin thought to herself that this Tsunade-sama seemed a little unreliable. The three of them quickly followed her.

Hoshikawa noticed that their destination was the school's rooftop. He couldn't help but laugh to himself. It would be a shame for a secret agent not to visit the rooftop at least once.

"Introduce yourselves, and focus on what jutsu you know," Tsunade said, looking out over the academy from the railing before turning to them.

"Sensei, didn't you read our files?" Hoshikawa couldn't help but ask.

"Little punk!" Tsunade raised her hand and flicked his forehead again. "You talk too much!"

Rin and Kurenai exchanged a look and fell into a strange silence.

"Kurenai, you go first," Tsunade said, her face a mask of nonchalance.

"My name is Kurenai Yūhi," Kurenai said quickly. "I specialize in genjutsu and Water Release. The jutsu I have mastered include Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet Jutsu—"

"Very good," Tsunade said, nodding after hearing her out. While not on par with Hoshikawa , she was still a definite genius. Tsunade felt a sense of closeness to her, especially since she was learning Water Release, the specialty of the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju. Water Release ninjas were very rare in Konoha. In a way, she had found Tobirama a direct student.

"My name is Rin Nohara," Rin said, a little embarrassed. "I... I know very few jutsu. Besides the Three-Body Jutsu, I only know the Healing Jutsu." She glanced at Hoshikawa , since he was the one who taught it to her.

"Medical ninjutsu is difficult. It's great that you've mastered the Healing Jutsu," Tsunade said with a soft smile.

"Yes, Tsunade-sensei," Rin said, secretly relieved.

"Now it's your turn, little punk," Tsunade said, looking at Hoshikawa .

"Do I really have to?" Hoshikawa asked. "Don't you already know everything about me?"

"I know, but your teammates don't," Tsunade said in a serious tone. "You'll be fighting alongside each other for a long time, so you need to know each other inside and out."

"Okay," Hoshikawa nodded and began listing his skills. He knew a great number of jutsu, and that was even with him skipping Earth, Water, and Wind Release. Genjutsu, kenjutsu, taijutsu, and Lightning, Fire, and medical ninjutsu—in total, he had mastered over forty jutsu.

Kurenai and Rin listened with their mouths agape. Even Tsunade thought he was a bit of a monster. Most academy students took six years just to master the Three-Body Jutsu, while he had learned so many in only five years.

"Alright—that's enough," Tsunade said, not knowing how to react. She waved a hand. "Meet me in front of my house tomorrow morning."

"Yes, Sensei," Rin and Kurenai said in unison.

"Dismissed." Tsunade walked up to Hoshikawa and put an arm around him. "You're coming with me to the Hokage's Office. We're going to get some missions."

"Wait a second," Hoshikawa asked, confused. "Didn't we miss a step? Aren't you going to test our skills?" He remembered Kakashi mentioning that the bell test was a tradition of the Hokage's lineage.

"With your skills, we can skip the test," Tsunade said, shaking her head.
