Hazel's POV
His eyes blazed with anger, the muscle in his jaw ticking as he fought to keep his temper in check. I cleared my throat and looked away. Whatever reason had brought him here, I knew one thing for sure,I would never go with this man again. Not after everything he'd done to me.
Even if he meant what he said, I'd rather freeze out here in the cold than live with him again. That would be worse than death. I scoffed and watched him struggle through his pathetic explanation. I almost enjoyed seeing him squirm.
"Look, I know I've hurt you, Hazel," his voice was thick with emotion.
"But I swear, I never meant for things to turn out this way. I love you, Hazel. I'll do whatever it takes to make things right again."
Despite the icy chill of my cell, anger boiled through me. My amusement vanished, replaced by disbelief. Did he even understand what love meant? Every time he said that word, something inside me snapped. He was the furthest thing from love I'd ever known.
