Lucian's POV
The human girl was standing in front of me, trembling, her small hand forcing mine against her throat like she was daring me to end her life.
Her eyes, furious, wet with tears, and filled with some kind of misplaced bravery, locked with mine, refusing to look away.
For a moment, I didn't move. I just stared at her. How could someone so small have such big guts? How could someone in such a fragile, and weak body carry so much fire?
She was shaking, but her voice didn't waver. "Kill me now and end this…. our ill fated relationship, Lucian Draegor. Because if you let me live, I promise you, I'll spend the rest of my life finding ways to end yours, just like you've ended more than a thousand others."
Her words cut through the silence like a blade.
I could feel her pulse pounding under my palm, fast, desperate, human. The warmth of her skin seeped through my fingers, and for a brief second, something twisted inside my chest. Something I didn't like.
