Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 – Gentleness

Ring… ring…The bell for lunch break echoed through the school, and the quiet classroom came alive again. It was always the sound that made every student happy.

Kanghui stretched and grumbled,"I'm starving. What are we eating?"

Hao smiled."The cafeteria doesn't exactly have many options."

Kanghui glanced at his hand."Hey, why are you holding a milk carton?""Luoting gave it to me.""Well, well… look at you. Not bad."

Hao chuckled softly."Let's just eat, kid."

They waited for Weihao at the cafeteria door."Wonder if there's fried rice today," Weihao said."Only one way to find out," Kanghui replied.

The three of them got their food, found an empty table, and began to eat, chatting as they went.

Weihao asked, "Tomorrow's Saturday. Wanna hang out?"Hao said, "Need to get permission from the Emperor and the Empress first."Kanghui laughed, "Your parents again? We could go to Weihao's place and play computer games."Hao nodded, "Depends if my mom's working. Otherwise, maybe the playground in the afternoon."Weihao shrugged, "Alright. Ten in the morning if you can make it. If not, I'll see you later."

After lunch, they wandered over to the park pavilion.Hao leaned back against the bench."I'm gonna nap a bit," he murmured.

Kanghui and Weihao kept talking quietly nearby.

Then suddenly—

Zzzzt… zzzzt…Beep… beep…

"…The patient seems to be stabilizing…"

Hao jolted awake, heart pounding."What—what was that? A hospital? Who's the patient?"A wave of dizziness hit him.

"You're awake?" Kanghui asked."My head's spinning…" Hao muttered."You sure you're okay?" Weihao leaned forward, worried.

Kanghui frowned. "You've been dizzy a lot lately."Hao forced a weak smile. "I'll be fine. Just need to rest."

They helped him back to the classroom."I'm good now," Hao said softly, taking a seat.

Weihao glanced at the time. "I've gotta go—see you guys."

Before leaving, Kanghui turned to Luoting."Hey, could you keep an eye on him? He doesn't look so good."

Luoting nodded."I will."

Hao leaned back in his chair, watching the sunlight spill across the window. In that quiet moment, even the air felt gentle.
