"We don't mean trouble. Whoever or whatever you are, you can show yourself." The elder spoke for whatever was hiding in the bushes to show itself.
At first there was no response, neither was there a movement. We kept observing all around us, to make sure it doesn't catch us unaware. Something tells me it won't be friendly.
Suddenly, we heard a growl from the same area the thing had moved about in the bushes beside us. I was still in my wolf form but the elder was in his human form, preparing to shift in order to protect me, as I was weak from severe hunger and hadn't eaten anything for dinner yet. We were about to eat when this wolf interrupted our movement into the place of shelter we had found.
"You will regret stepping foot onto this path tonight." We heard the wolf say from within the bushes, still yet to reveal itself.
"Who are you? An Alpha of a nearby pack?"
The elder asked as he was observing his surroundings, still preparing to shift if need be. I was totally weak from severe starvation, but I couldn't just stay behind him and do nothing if this turned out to be a big issue or an attack on us.
"Human? How are you able to speak to animals? I can see you, but you can't see me, hahaha."
"I am not human. I'm a werewolf like you and I mean no harm. Mind revealing yourself?"
"You are in no position to order me about in my territory, stupid old man. You've got something behind you that you are hiding, what's that? Your wife? Your child? Hahaha. Both of you will become our slaves or even our food tonight."
At this point, it was clear that the wolf attacking us was not going to be friendly with us. The elder quickly shifted to prepare for any sudden attack from the yet unknown wolf.
"Hahaha, foolish old man. You are already surrounded by us. I am not alone. You had the guts to cross my territory and you still dare to challenge me? "
"I only shifted because as you have refused to show yourself, you could attack suddenly and we will be caught unaware. We clearly mean no harm. You are the one inviting trouble. Please listen to us first."
"Oh you are making a terrible mistake. What are you doing here at this time? Strangers from nowhere. We are rogues and you must be from a rival pack that led to our punishment. You have secretly come to launch an attack or a revenge on us? Where are your others? Some have been killed in this wilderness. Yet you still dare to launch a secret attack on us by this time of the night?"
What nonsense was this guy saying? His words got me angry in particular. Could he not just allow us explain?
"You are mistaken us for some other individuals. We know nothing about what you are saying. Allow us explain how we found ourselves here."
"Oh, explain you say. Very well then, you can go ahead and explain who sent you here to attack us secretly. But I don't think my brothers will be patient enough to hear all the lies you are trying to cook up."
At this point, different wolves started coming out from different angles. Some were black and white mixed, some brown. All of them had angry looks on their faces, like they were staring at an enemy that had once killed their loved ones. I was still behind the elder but I felt like a coward hiding behind him. I whispered to him that I can manage to defend myself but he told me to remain behind him. This was pointless. I was weak from hunger, yes, but I couldn't just watch him being ripped to shreds by these crazy rogues. It was not like we were going to be a match for them anyway because they were quite many, like twelve of them. But at least, two heads were better than one.
"We don't want to fight you. We mean no harm. We didn't come here to fight and we are not attacking you in any way. We have not been sent by anyone. Just listen to...."
"Oh shut the fuck up! Enough of the lies already. Those were the same words some of them tried using to deceive us. Liars! I'm sorry but we are already used to such lies. After we have finished dealing with you here, right now, you are going to take us to whoever sent you, no matter who it is. That is if any of you is still alive after we are done with you, with the anger in us now." Their leader spoke as he finally came out to reveal himself.
