Chapter 14 - Too Easy

"I am just worried," Rune spoke calmly as Zavry walked quietly through their cave. He could not wait to sleep.

"Worried for what?" Zavry asked with a raised brow, curious as to why Rune was worried.

"You. You are taking lots of risks, Zavry, and you wouldn't want to ruin things because of your recklessness. I'm telling you, this mission is not as easy as you think. And why does it seem too easy to be true?" Rune asked as Zavry shrugged.

"Because of me. I make things easy. Worry about yourself, not me, bro," Zavry shrugged.

If only he knew he would come to regret those words.

Just as they kept walking—

CRACK

Some stones began to fall from the ceiling. Zavry looked up noticing the place begin to crack, as if he had expected this—when he clearly hadn't.

Just when he thought things would end well, he must have thought too soon.

"We need to leave now," Rune warned as Zavry's hands still remained in his pockets. He walked like nothing was going on, even though he knew that if the rocks or stones fell, they could crush a person into thousands of pieces…

Zavry dodged swiftly to the side as the swooping of wind grew loud.

BAM!!

The large stone fell and shattered where he had once been.

"You would have died by now, and knowing no one would have buried you is the funny part…" Rune mocked, then added, "Not only would it be a miserable death, but a shaking one as well…you died after killing the aliens on the same floor… tragic."

Zavry moved swiftly, leaping as the stones began crashing down and choking dust enveloped the cave.

He stopped as he squatted, then raised his body and leaped into the air higher this time, his hands still in his pockets as his hair flew to the side, the moonlight making his shadow more dreadful than it should be.

He finally landed calmly on the grass of the field.

As the loud crack and destruction of the stones covered the hole, the dust bounced out.

The natural wind finally blew on Zavry's skin as his eyes moved around the trees. He walked, bending over the red and white warning rope.

"Do you even know what is more tragic?" Zavry asked, then added, "Your voice."

Rune was silent before he spoke.

'I told you this like a minute ago—the best time for you to search your empty brain for a comeback insult, which did nothing to me.'

Zavry clicked his tongue at his words, then spoke.

"This field is perfect for football," he said as he stared at the large field, which now had a big flaw due to the hole created.

"You mean soccer?" Rune asked.

Zavry's lips moved into a slight frown as he walked towards the trees.

"Football is not soccer," Zavry spoke calmly as he walked to the tree area, moved his two fingers, and created the portal.

"I won't even argue with you… you've simply been brainwashed," Rune spoke as Zavry shrugged and entered the portal.

"What would an ancient plant know anyway?" he spoke as he walked towards the straight path to the portal and entered.

"You'll regret this. I hope your next mission will be back in time, and this ancient plant you just insulted will be of great need to you," Rune spoke.

"Bro, I was just kidding about the insult—it's not that deep."

They now stood in the apartment.

"Finally, I can have my bath and then sleep. Just what I need," Zavry said to Rune with a smile.

'Good luck to you,' Rune spoke sarcastically as Zavry walked towards the bed, taking his clothes. Just as he moved to the bathroom door and opened it—

It refused to budge. Was there something wrong with the knob? he wondered.

"Dumbass, it's locked," Rune said, his tone clearly implying it was obvious.

"I know that," Zavry spoke as he pulled his hand away.

"Bro, sometimes it's good to accept you're wrong," Rune spoke with annoyance.

"Be quiet…" Zavry spoke, then looked at the door.

"Why is the door locked?" he asked, but Rune was silent.

"I'm talking to you…" Zavry spoke.

"You said I should be quiet," Rune deadpanned.

Then Zavry realized—Leon must have gotten back from his so-called meeting.

Is he bathing? Zavry wondered, but then a whiffy smell reached his nose.

"No, no, no… aghhh, fucking rubbish nonsense, what is this, oh why?" Zavry cursed as his hand hit the door—not too hard.

He realized that Leon was pooping, and this was what he hated. Knowing how Leon's poop smelled, he knew bathing now would be a disaster.

"Zav, you back?" he heard Leon's voice through the bathroom door.

"I'm pooping."

Zavry gritted his teeth in annoyance. He did not like this at all—just when he thought he would finally come home, have a clean bath, and enjoy the clean bathroom he'd left behind.

As if all this wasn't already enough, Leon spoke again through the door.

"Bro, I think I'm purging."

Zavry turned and scrunched his nose in anger.

Rune began to laugh at the absurdity of the situation.

"You see, I had told you to use that five minutes and quickly shower, but no… Bro wanted to be a superhero and save the day."

"Shut up," Zavry spoke as he moved to the kitchen. Opening the fridge, he took a bottle of water, uncapped it, and gulped it down. Maybe it would be better if he had his bath tomorrow.

He threw the bottle—it flew cleanly into the trash bin. He walked back towards the sofa, refusing to be annoyed. At this point, he didn't know if he should be annoyed at himself or Leon.

'Bro, you have no right to be angry. This isn't your house to begin with—you're practically homeless… a beggar with no options,' Rune spoke, adding more fuel to the fire.

Zavry lay on the sofa facing the ceiling, one knee bent upwards and the other leg straight. He used the back of his hand to cover his eyes from the light.

He wasn't annoyed—he just knew this sleep wouldn't be as fresh as it would after a clean shower.

"Good night…"

"Shut it."

Zavry finally closed his eyes to sleep, one hour and fifteen minutes had passed—only for him to be woken up by Leon.

Zavry cursed inwardly as he slowly opened his eyes.

'Doesn't this guy sleep? What could he be doing awake at this time of night…' Zavry wondered as he sat up lazily eyes still groggy from sleep.

Leon looked worried.

"Bro, did you see my plate of grapes with the label 'Do Not Touch'?"

Zavry straightened.

Fuck, he cursed as he noticed Leon's worried face.

Zavry raised his fingers as he signed, 'Bro, calm down first.'

But Leon shook his head.

"How do you expect me to calm down…" he said, then added, "Bro, I hope you didn't eat that?"

He asked with a raised brow. Zavry calmly nodded.

"Fuck… those grapes contained rat poison."

Zavry's eyes widened.
