Three days had already passed, and I still had no clue whether Luna had found Jasper's social media account or not. Three whole days. And I can't even begin to explain how I've survived them—constantly thinking about him. It's like every spare second, his face would pop into my mind, uninvited, but never unwelcome.
I couldn't concentrate on anything—not my studies, not my online classes, not even the group chats with my school friends. My thoughts had settled on one person—Jasper. And Luna had definitely noticed. She saw the way I zoned out mid-sentence, how my replies were slower, and how I wasn't really there. She tried distracting me, sending memes, ranting about our annoying math teacher, even calling me randomly—but nothing really helped.
After school today, I was sitting at the dining table with my grandmother, having lunch. The fan above us made a soft humming noise as I absentmindedly pushed a piece of toast around my plate.
Suddenly, my grandmother's phone buzzed on the table. Not technically mine, but I use it more than she does, so it kind of is mine.
"Freya, finish your lunch first," my grandmother said firmly, noticing my hand already reaching for the phone.
"Just two minutes," I mumbled.
"No. Finish the food on your plate first, then do whatever you want," she replied, her tone serious but not angry—just… classic grandma strictness.
"Okay," I said, a little sulky.
I quickly finished what was left on my plate, heart pounding slightly. I had a weird gut feeling—it had to be Luna. And she had news.
I left the dining table, wiped my hands on my shorts, and opened Luna's chat.
Luna: Hey babe, I have good news for you.
I sat up straighter instantly. My heart skipped a beat.
Me: What is it?!
Luna: I have Jasper's social media account 😏
Me: WHAT?!
Luna: Yessss 💅
Me: How?!
Luna: I have contacts, you know 😉
I rolled my eyes, smiling like a total idiot.
Me: Yeah, yeah. Show-off.
Luna: Here it is – JASPER_29. Enjoy, baby! 😘
Me: THANK YOU! I typed quickly, then stared at the screen like it held the secrets of the universe.
I put the phone down for a second and just… breathed.
Somehow, just having his profile—even just the username—gave me hope. Like, maybe I could actually talk to him one day, get to know the real him beyond those random glimpses in the school hallway.
My fingers hovered above the screen. Should I send a friend request? Or should I wait? What if he thinks it's weird? What if he ignores me?
Ugh, my brain was doing somersaults.
But then I thought—so what if he doesn't accept? At least I tried.
So, I took a deep breath, searched for JASPER_29, and there it was—his profile. A candid photo, that soft smile of his, the same one that melted my brain the first time I saw it.
I hit send friend request.
My heart was pounding so hard I swear I could hear it echoing in my ears.
Now the waiting game begins.
Will he accept it?
Or just ignore me?
I don't know. But right now, for the first time in days, I feel something I hadn't felt in a while—hope.
And that's enough for today.
