Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Showing appreciation

It was not just that, but he wanted to gain Conquest's unwavering loyalty since considering as of right now, the elderly Viltrumite was the one most likely to not like the direction the empire was taking.

Conquest charged in once more. This time, his speed was even much greater.

Watching such a well-built individual charge at him, Thragg couldn't help but feel like he was about to be run over by a freight train, if he was still human that would have been a genuine concern.

Conquest crashed against Thragg's torso, his shoulder coliding with the Emperor's stomach and generating a shock wave that once again shook the area of the moon they were standing on

The power behind that tackle was enough to push Thragg back several meters; however, he was quick to use his knee to deliver a powerful attack on Conquest's stomach.

The knee kick struck the elderly Viltrumite with enough force to launch wads of saliva out his mouth.

Thragg followed this up by grabbing Conquest by his torso from behind, flipping him upside down, letting Conquest's legs rest on his shoulders before slamming him onto the moon's surface with such force that it created a sizable crater.

Feeling the impact of his back and shoulders striking the ground, Conquest ignored it, as he used his powerful legs to stomp on Thragg's chest, kicking him with enough power to send him flying up and out the moon's atmosphere.

Conquest then flipped himself back upright and launched himself at the Emperor. His fist clenched, and his grin still etched on his face.

Thragg saw the old man coming, however rather than meet him half way Thragg decided on the opposite, he was physically superior so there was no need to meet Conquest halfway in fact that would only reduce the amount of power the old man could generate with his momentum.

It barely took a second before Conquest was before him, and his bright golden metal hand was already going for the face.

Thragg suppressed the urge to duck down and let the blow fly over his head before letting off a counterattack. He instead met the punch with his own.

The two fists collided, like iron striking iron and the shockwave generated by such a collision of powerful men, caused the nearby Viltrumite mothership to shake, causing it to float back just a few centimeters

Had they been in a location with an atmosphere, they would have caused far greater destruction, and they would have heard the metallic ringing of Conquest's metal arm.

After their clash, there was a brief moment where neither tried to strike the other.

Conquest couldn't help but feel a little help and trusted as he looked at his Emperor. Here, he was throwing his best at him, yet his opponent seemed to not even show a little bit of struggle.

[Is this your best?! I expected a little more]

Thragg smirked as he said those words, taunting the older Viltrumite, and unfortunately, Conquest did not seem to appreciate the taunt.

[Hardly]

Conquest responded before he floated back, giving the Emperor some space before he continued with his assault.

Despite the frustration, Conquest was still feeling excited. This was a challenge, the first challenge he's had in centuries. Defeating The Emperor was a tall task that should be impossible, but he didn't care. He was going to try.

[Sire, a question]

Thragg nodded with a raised brow, curious about what Conquest could possibly ask.

[Is this reward, only for today?]

Thragg pressed his lips together in thought. He wondered if it would be wise to extend this to beyond today.

[If it's that fun for you, then we can have these battles whenever I have free time]

He figured it wouldn't hurt and would help keep him on his toes. Plus, having some fun with Conquest every once in a while will be good for him. The old man does need friends, after all.

[Thank you, sire]

Conquest bowed his head while suppressing a grin. This was perfect. Of course, he didn't expect it to be an every day even, but it was something to look forward to.

[Don't mention it. Warriors like yourself deserve to be appreciated]

Thragg let out a genuine smile, one that Conquest was seeing for the first time. The old man couldn't help but be taken aback both by the smile and by the word Thragg had spoken.

'I am… appreciated'

He thought inwardly, feeling a strange warmth within himself. In the span of a single day, he was shown more appreciation than he had in his entire life.

[Are we done, or do you want to take a break?]

[No, sir]

He was quick to answer. He was far from done. He rolled his shoulders and prepared himself to attack. This time, he planned to get up close and personal.

There was a small lull between them that only lasted for a second before Conquest began his assault. Closing the distance in an instant.

He let out a rapid flurry of punches at Thragg, each punch aiming to strike the Emperor's face, with enough force to break the bones of any Viltrumite. However, Thragg was not just any Viltrumite.

Even so, he did not see the need to take unnecessary damage, so instead, all he did was dodge and parry each punch. He did so with relative ease.

A punch from the left was dodged with a slight tilt of the head, one from the right he parried with his left hand. An uppercut was blocked by his right hand.

Each time an attack from Conquest collided with his hands, it generated a powerful shockwave that ripples throughout the empty void of space

However Conquest did not let up, he continued his assault with a fervor not generally seen in old men.

He attempted a kick, going for ribs on Thraggs left. However, the emperor blocked that with his knee.

After letting Conquest go on for a few more seconds with his attacks,Thragg suddenly grabbed his opponent's hands, halting his assault immediately, creating a sudden cessation of the rapid shockwave caused by Conquest's fist colliding with his hands

But it stopped only for a split second as Conquest immediately went in for a headbutt.

Stopping his hands did not stop him from attacking, however Thragg saw that coming, maybe due to instinct as a Viltrumite or maybe it was something he expected from Conquest, it didn't matter which was which. As it was what allowed him to let go of Conquest's hands.

He clenched his fist, and struck Conquest's oncoming head on the face with such force that not only did he draw blood from Conquest's nose but the force of the punch sent him flying back to the moon at such blinding speeds that when he crashed onto its surface a new creator the size of a whole city was formed.

And just like that, the fight was over, Conquest was knocked out, and Thragg had gotten a good measure of his strength, and that was enough for now.

'At least until we do this again in the future'

He thought as he floated back to the moon and retrieved Conquest before returning to the mothership.

'Now that I think about it, I really should try and fix that inner ear weakness'

He thought as the fight with Conquest reminded him of the very few weaknesses Viltrumites have. From what he remembers from the show and Thragg's own memories.

There were mainly two other weaknesses to Viltrumites if you left out the high-frequency weakness.

the scourge virus, which was deadly to Viltrumite, but if he somehow manages to get samples, they should be able to synthesise a cure to it, and with his enhanced adaptability it shouldn't be difficult.

The other weakness was the claxus plant, a plant that saps the strength of Viltrumites and makes them weaker, although thanks to the sinlak beatle that shouldn't be a problem, so really there was only one weakness.

Boarding the Mothership and just as he exited the airlock he was quickly greeted by a gaggle of Viltrumites along with Anissa, at Anissa's orders the accompanying Viltrumites retrieved Conquest's body from his hand and took him to the Medbay.

"Congratulations on your win, sire"

She praised as the two began to walk, Anissa staying just a step behind Thragg as they made their way to the bridge of the mothership.

"Is it something worth congratulating? The outcome was obvious, wasn't it"

It was just a spar, something to get Conquest excited. Him winning the spar is not something that he figured was relevant or important.

"That is true. However, despite Conquest being avoided by most of us as it's believed, he is a little unstable. He is still among the most powerful of Viltrumite, second only to you and General Kregg."

Hearing those words out her mouth, Thragg couldn't help but let out a hum of curiosity. He hadn't thought Conquest was so high up in the rankings in terms of power.

"As such, your display of defeating him with a single attack is a demonstration of your might and can help deter any possible traitors among us"

That made sense, or at least the way she explained it made sense. If there's anyone who doesn't like how he is currently doing things, showing how he is able to defeat even one of the strongest Viltrumite with a single punch should give anyone second thoughts.

"I see your point, In any case that is not important right now, I believe it has been more than enough time. We should resend the transmission to the Earthlings."

"I believe so, Sire, but I suggest waiting another cycle or two if we appear too eager to negotiate the humans may attempt to take advantage"

She reasoned, and he saw no flaw in her reasoning. He did remember that in his past life, being in control of the negotiations was a sign of having the advantage.

"Very well"

.....

A/N: I hope you enjoyed it.

Thinking about Conquest, I think he'd make a great left-hand man. Powerful and imposing, capable of handling business without Thragg having to deal with it himself. Essentially, I think he works as the bull dog of the Emperor
