Chapter 48: Macross – The Launch Ceremony

Monty Hill sighed—starting a harem was really, really hard, especially since he already had Miriallia Haw.

Better to keep his hands to himself and avoid flirting too much!

But deep down, he couldn't stop yearning. He had finally made it to an anime world—

So many beautiful girls waiting for him to encounter them. Giving up an entire forest for the sake of one tree… it felt like such a waste!

Then again, when he thought about it, if he were to go through hundreds or even thousands of worlds, and bring a woman from each one…

Wouldn't that mean he'd end up with hundreds or even thousands of women? One a day, and he still wouldn't get through them in years!

Where was the meaning in that? Wouldn't he just be like some breeding stallion at that point?

His goal was to keep growing stronger—not to become some stud horse!

Without love, doing that kind of thing might feel exciting at first, but once the thrill faded, it would just become a burden.

Having to "pay the public grain" every single day… his body would probably give out first.

One can't be too greedy. At most, he'd be content with having one on each arm.

Just like the theme song from the old TV drama Peerless Under Heaven said: "One is too few, two is too many!"

Well, in his case, two definitely wasn't too many—in fact, he thought it was just right.

He could even make thousands of Shuma-class android maids with daily-use mode, wouldn't that be nice?

He wouldn't have to worry about what they were thinking, what they wanted, how to coax them, or how to keep them happy—not even their "happiness" would be his concern.

So much less effort!

And if Miriallia Haw didn't agree to him having two women, well, he could just brainwash her into accepting it.

But the other woman had to be chosen carefully—at the very least, she should be like Sheryl Nome: beautiful, with a great figure, daring, passionate, and willing to give up everything for the one she loves.

In short—a queen was the best!

At the very least, she shouldn't come with a whole family in tow. Marrying someone who brought along her parents, brothers, sisters, and whoever else would just be too much trouble.

Otherwise, if he picked the wrong person, wouldn't he be at a huge loss?

With only two spots available, and one already taken, the other had to be chosen with extreme care.

But thinking about it now was still too early—nothing was even remotely set in stone yet, so why was he thinking about this nonsense?

Besides, with how much he'd already messed up the plot, who knew if Sheryl Nome would even be born, or ever become the Galactic Fairy?

In the blink of an eye, Monty Hill had been living together with Lynn Minmay for more than a month.

Of course, the two of them were only sharing the same house—nothing inappropriate had happened.

As for all the little "benefits" that came with Minmay, Monty Hill felt he could now maintain the calm of a meditating monk—practically immune.

Soon, it was February 2009—the launch day of the Super Dimension Fortress Macross SDF-1.

The entire city was decorated with lanterns and banners, the atmosphere buzzing with excitement.

Monty Hill couldn't help but sigh—this was truly the calm before the storm. Who could imagine that just days later, Earth would be reduced to scorched earth, with humanity almost completely wiped out?

And yet, who could also imagine that humanity, relying solely on the few tens of thousands who survived on South Ataria Island, would slowly rise again—spreading throughout the universe in just a few decades?

On the morning of the Macross SDF-1's launch day, Lynn Minmay woke up early, pulled open the curtains, and said—

"Brother Monty Hill, the sun's shining on your backside already, time to get up!"

Monty Hill rolled over, avoiding the sunlight.

"Minmay~… Let me sleep five more minutes~… I'll be up soon."

Pouting in annoyance, Lynn Minmay replied—

"No way, Brother Monty Hill! You promised—our whole family is going to see the Macross SDF-1 launch ceremony together. If we're late, we'll miss it!"

At the mention of the launch ceremony, Monty Hill perked right up—after all, missing it could very well mean losing his life.

He sat up at once, looking at Minmay, who was wearing a T-shirt and shorts.

"Morning, Minmay. I'm up. I'll wash up and get ready—won't be long."

"OK, Brother Monty Hill, I'll wait for you downstairs. Hurry!"

Minmay did a quick touch-up, slipped into a red dress, and headed downstairs.

Monty Hill washed up at lightning speed, taking less than five minutes in total.

After breakfast, he went with Minmay and her uncle's family to the area beneath the Macross SDF-1 to attend the launch ceremony.

From the fortress's broadcast speakers came—

"Now, the Unified Forces' newest fighter, the Valkyrie, will perform an aerial display.

Providing commentary is a war hero from the Unified Forces!

Ace pilot—Major Roy Focker!"

A blond man, Major Roy Focker, stepped onto the stage, saluted the crowd, and clasped his hands behind his back.

Suddenly, five blue-white-red fighters roared overhead, performing various stunts above the Macross SDF-1.

Major Roy Focker spoke to the audience—

"Everyone, please watch closely—the No. 2 and No. 4 units will cross paths at an altitude of just 20 meters, at a speed of 950 kilometers per hour.

And the distance between them will be only a few meters…"

Just then, a small red plane zipped right between the two crossing VF-1 Valkyries.

Monty Hill instantly knew—this show-off had to be Hikaru Ichijyo, barging in during the performance.

If not for the Valkyries' superb performance and the pilots' incredible skill, it would have ended in a fatal crash.

Completely without organization or discipline—always charging in recklessly. Honestly, early on, Hikaru was really irritating.

There was no way he'd let Minmay have too much contact with Hikaru. Luckily, he had already brought all of her belongings over, so she wouldn't have to go home to get anything—which meant avoiding that encounter entirely.

After all, Hikaru really was a fool—VF-1 Valkyries were two-seaters, yet he insisted on holding Minmay in the mecha's hand. At such high speeds, the wind pressure alone could have killed her!

And then, that same hand was shot off by a Zentraedi battle pod's machine gun.

If Minmay didn't have such good luck, she could have died several times over.

When he first watched it years ago, it really had made him break out in a cold sweat.

But this time, with him around, that wasn't going to happen.

There was, however, another possible encounter—

In March 2009, inside the Macross SDF-1's small city district.

While Minmay was giving a concert, the Zentraedi forces attacked, forcing the show to stop.

During the SDF-1's first transformation, she was accidentally blown out of the concert hall by the air currents—

And that was when Hikaru rescued her, leading to their meeting. But if that happened, this world might end up being the Do You Remember Love? version of Macross.
