Miranda couldn't focus on the spreadsheet in front of her. Her eyes kept darting between her computer screen and her silent phone. Through the glass partition separating their offices, she caught Nolan watching her with concern for what felt like the hundredth time that day. His calendar was packed with meetings, yet he still found moments to check on her. Sweet, but she wished she could just shut down her racing thoughts for a while.
"Miranda, come to my office, please."
She rose from her desk, smoothed her pencil skirt, and stepped into his office. The moment the door clicked shut, his strong arms encircled her waist, drawing her against him.
"Has Collins reached out yet?" he asked, his voice low with concern.
"Just that one text earlier." Miranda melted into his embrace, inhaling his familiar scent. "I'm trying to give her space, but it's driving me crazy not knowing what's happening."
