Collins's phone rang twice before she answered, placing it on speaker as Noelle had instructed.
"Uncle March?" She expertly injected a tremor into her voice, making it sound as though she'd been crying for hours.
"Collins." March's voice flooded through the speaker, causing Miranda's skin to prickle at the false concern dripping from every syllable. "I just heard about Miranda. I'm absolutely devastated. How are you and Noelle holding up through all this?"
Miranda observed her sisters carefully. The color had drained from Collins's face, while Noelle gripped her chair's armrests until her knuckles turned bone white.
"We only found out ourselves a little while ago," Collins managed, her voice breaking perfectly. "We haven't had time to process anything. I still can't believe she's gone. It all happened so suddenly."
