Chapter 5 - Karma looks best in pink

Reina Reigns

Right now, I'd rather be in a bar wasting away than be surrounded by members of an exclusive society. Unfortunately, I had to be here to put food on my table and provide for my family.

I observe the women in my immediate surroundings, particularly those wearing sophisticated ball gowns, including Gemma, who wore a long gold dress and had her hair pulled back into a bun. The only appropriate dress I found after searching my closet early this morning was this burgundy one that showed off my entire back and had two long slits in the front that showed off a respectable percentage of my light brown thighs.

Thinking, what the hell, I paired it with matching knee-high boots to hide most of my exposed skin. After washing my hair and adding multiple hair products, I managed to tame the beast into a neat bun at the top of my head, but still some behaved like an unruly child and fell out to the side in what seemed like a worthy achievement. Sure, I was not wearing a new and elegant designer dress like the other women, but I wasn't like other women, and even if I had the money, I would never dare to be the same as them, and in my honest opinion, I looked damn sexy doing my thing.

So screw the woman in the green dress who stared at me with her judgmental eyes. She's most likely jealous that her husband can't keep his eyes off me. Deciding to be a bitch, I took a sip from my flute before waving in the couple's direction.

"There he is," Gemma says excitedly from next to me. My eyes moved in the direction where she was looking.

There was a tall and handsome guy walking our way. He smiles brightly at Gemma before pulling her into a hug, then kissing her cheek. Their action made me raise a brow along with the flute of white wine to my lips.

"Sorry I'm late," he told her, completely oblivious to me, who stood only a foot away from Gemma.

"That's fine, honey." Gemma finally seemed to remember that I was also here; she looked at me with a grin. "Reina here kept my company."

The man's blue eyes acknowledge me for the first time. Giving me a polite grin, he stretches his hand out for a handshake. "Hey, I'm Drew Fernandez, although I'm sure Gem told you that much. It's nice to meet you."

"Likewise," I say, shaking his hand briefly.

"I know this isn't the right place to conduct an interview, Ms. Reigns, and I apologize. We'll keep this short so we can all enjoy this special event."

I agree, even though I had no idea what this special event was about.

Later in the night, I felt more at ease. Drew, as he insisted I call him, was as generous as his girlfriend. He offered me the job after about five minutes of asking me questions and after we engaged in other conversations. He was easygoing, and I could already tell that he'd be a much better boss than my previous one; for one, he wasn't stuck up.

I had excused myself from the couple after one hour of feeling like the third wheel. My only escape was the restroom. Pushing the door open, I search my small clutch for mascara and lip gloss.

"Where are you, dammit?" I say, clutching the mascara tube while searching for the lip gloss.

A loud gasp startled me, which made me abandon my search and look at the two people before me. A woman in a pink dress was leaning over with her palms flat against the white-colored walls, with a distraught man right behind her. Not knowing what to do, I said a quick apology before leaving the room.

"Why did I apologize?" I complain to no one as soon as I enter the hallway, "This is a public bathroom, for god's sake."

The dirty act consumed my mind. I walked with determination to get as far away as possible from the restroom and prayed that I wouldn't bump into them for the rest of the night. Trying to make a far escape, I ended up bumping into a tall figure. I felt goose bumps on my skin as a man gripped my upper arms to prevent me from falling. Before I had the chance to see and thank the stranger, I felt my back hitting the wall harshly.

After the slight pain subsides, I open my eyes to see my abuser.

"What are you doing here, Reigns?!" the voice asks with fury.

Leaning off the wall, I rolled my eyes at Cesaro, who stood in front of me dressed in a grey three-piece suit. "Answer me, dammit!"

"How is it any of your business?" I ask, trying to push past him; my attempt failed when he pulled me back and pushed me against the wall.

"And here I thought that I was the violent one." I say sardonically, "Didn't you learn not to abuse women?"

My exposed back was pressed against the icy wall, and it was a bit uncomfortable.

Cesaro takes one step closer to me as his dark eyes travel every inch of my body. He stared boldly and shamelessly at the small rose tattoo on my right thigh. Earlier I had been confident, but as his predatory eyes stare at me, I wish that I wore more covered clothing.

He ignored my previous statement and placed his hands in his pocket, looking away from me. "It's my business because it's my twenty-sixth birthday party, and you weren't invited."

Once again I roll my eyes; he sounded like a child. "If I knew then, I wouldn't be standing here right now. The last thing I want to do is to celebrate the birth of someone as diabolical as yourself."

He didn't insult me like I thought he would. I push past him and make my way in the direction where I was headed before I had bumped into that idiot.

I stood watching. It was not that hard to believe. Karma was indeed a bitch. After leaving Cesaro behind, I was determined to leave the party. First, I had to inform Drew and Gemma, but it took me several minutes to actually spot the adorable couple in the room of the rich and famous. Just as I made a step towards them, an announcement was made. I had meant to ignore whatever that prick had to say, but as soon as I heard the word girlfriend, I stopped just to see which girl was stupid enough to get involved with someone like Cesaro Mizra.

To my surprise, it was the same woman who had me running out of the restroom after seeing something not meant for my eyes.

His girlfriend that he was so boastfully talking about was nothing but a dirty cheater. Cheaters I could not stand, but still I couldn't stop from grinning like a Cheshire cat. I couldn't wait for him to find out so that I could rub it in his face.

"Reina?" A masculine voice says from behind me. Turning my attention to the person, I was pleased to see Mister Mirza. I smile politely at him.

"Hello, Mister Mirza." Seeing him made me feel guilty for not visiting him, even though I didn't know which hospital he was in. "I apologize for not visiting you in the hospital. How are you feeling?"

Mister Mirza smiled. "It's fine, dear; I understand, and I should be the one apologizing for what Cesaro did to you, but don't worry, I'm back and I'm well. I will make sure you get your job back."

"Thank you, sir, but that won't be necessary; I already found a new job."

"That's good, dear." He didn't look pleased. I watched him glance at the cheater standing next to his son and then back at me. "You see, dear, I want to have a dinner celebrating my recovery; it will be the celebration of life. Just close friends are invited, and it would be an honor if you attended."

Mister Mirza was a good man; in fact, I saw him as a father figure. I was unaware of his health issues but happy nevertheless that he was alive and well, but would I be able to be around my new arch enemy for more than a few minutes?

Suddenly, a thought came to mind. I look at the couple who seemed so happy and in love.

"I'd love to attend, Mister Mirza; just tell me the time and location, and I'll be there."
