After leaving Cai Meier's office, Zhu Ziyang checked the time. The training session for the official team was about to start, so he didn't linger in the outer courtyard and headed straight to the inner courtyard's training grounds.
When he arrived, Ma Xiaotao, Dai Yueheng, and the others were already there—only he and Jiang Nannan had yet to show up.
"Sister Xiaotao, Brother Yueheng, I'm here." Zhu Ziyang greeted everyone cheerfully as he arrived.
"Ziyang, where were you? Why are you only showing up now?" Ma Xiaotao asked, her charming face lit up with a smile.
"I heard three Soul Elders appeared among this year's new students, so I took a little detour to the outer courtyard," Zhu Ziyang replied with a grin, then looked toward Dai Yueheng. "Brother Yueheng, didn't your younger brother enroll this year?"
"Yeah, judging by his age, this should be the year." Dai Yueheng nodded mildly. Honestly, having grown up in the White Tiger Duke's household, he didn't care much for the concept of brotherhood.
As Zhu Ziyang and Dai Yueheng were chatting, Jiang Nannan arrived with Zhang Lexuan beside her. Zhang Lexuan happened to be the opponent their official team would face in today's training.
"Since everyone's here, let's not waste time," Zhang Lexuan said directly. "Today's combat training is simple. Nannan and I will be on one side, the six of you on the other. A two-versus-six match."
"Sister Lexuan, just the two of you? I mean, you're a Soul Douluo, but isn't this underestimating us a bit too much?" Ma Xiaotao frowned. "How about you bring one more person? Otherwise, I'm afraid this training will end before it even begins."
The others nodded in agreement. But Zhu Ziyang looked thoughtful. He recalled that Jiang Nannan had excitedly told him something not long ago. If what she said was true, the six of them might really struggle against her and Zhang Lexuan.
So he said, "Sister Xiaotao, let's just agree for now. If it really becomes one-sided, we can adjust then."
"Uh..." Ma Xiaotao considered it, looked around at the others, and asked, "What do you all think?"
"Let's go with Ziyang's suggestion," Dai Yueheng said, and the rest nodded.
"Alright then, Sister Lexuan, we agree. Let's get started," Ma Xiaotao said directly.
"Hope you all go all out!" Zhang Lexuan smiled.
"That's right, Brother. Sister Lexuan and I won't be holding back!" Jiang Nannan said sweetly. It was clear she was excited.
The battle was about to begin. Zhu Ziyang, Ma Xiaotao, Dai Yueheng, Ling Luochen, Gongyang Mo, and Chen Zifeng took formation in a tight triangle. Ma Xiaotao, as the Soul Emperor and team leader, stood at the front. The rank-59 Dai Yueheng and rank-53 Zhu Ziyang stood in the center. Rank-55 Gongyang Mo, rank-51 Ling Luochen, and rank-52 Chen Zifeng held the rear. Opposite them stood Zhang Lexuan and Jiang Nannan, side by side.
"Prioritize taking down Nannan, then focus on Sister Lexuan together!" Ma Xiaotao ordered.
She made the first move. Her Fire Phoenix Martial Soul attached instantly, and her massive flaming wings lifted her into the sky. A crimson blaze shot from her mouth, surging toward Jiang Nannan. Dai Yueheng and Zhu Ziyang followed closely, unleashing their Martial Souls and soul skills. Dai Yueheng cast all three of his enhancement skills, then released a scorching light beam at the two women. Zhu Ziyang wielded his Stillness Fate Ending Scythe, activating his second soul skill. A golden scythe radiating blinding light transformed into a spinning vortex of light and flew toward the two.
Behind them, Ling Luochen and Gongyang Mo also acted. Gongyang Mo activated his first and second soul skills to boost strength and speed for the frontline, while Ling Luochen used control-type soul skills to harass Zhang Lexuan and prevent her from helping Jiang Nannan. Chen Zifeng's job was to guard Gongyang Mo and Ling Luochen from any surprise attacks.
Facing this fierce offensive, Jiang Nannan didn't dare slack off. Her Martial Soul activated instantly, and her first soul skill dramatically boosted her speed. Then she did something that left everyone confused. She effortlessly dodged Ma Xiaotao's Phoenix Flame Beam and Dai Yueheng's White Tiger Radiant Light Wave, even escaping the gravitational pull of Zhu Ziyang's Two Forms Rotating Slash, and dashed straight toward Zhang Lexuan.
Zhang Lexuan, having already summoned her Martial Soul, didn't strike back immediately. She simply stood her ground, waiting for Jiang Nannan.
Seeing Jiang Nannan rushing toward Zhang Lexuan, Zhu Ziyang started to suspect what they were planning. His heart stirred with anticipation, and his body froze for a split second. But Ma Xiaotao and Dai Yueheng didn't stop. They charged at Jiang Nannan, launching their respective fourth soul skills: Phoenix Meteor Strike and White Tiger Meteor Shower.
Flames erupted from the ground, and radiant golden spheres rained from above. As Jiang Nannan burst through the mist, she ran directly into the oncoming attacks. Her expression shifted, and she immediately used her fourth soul skill. In the blink of an eye, she vanished, leaving behind only a faint silver afterimage. The next moment, she reappeared ten meters away, evading both attacks and landing before Zhang Lexuan.
Jiang Nannan's fourth soul skill—Silver Moon Teleportation Art—was a burst-type skill that allowed her to teleport anywhere within ten meters. She could even return to her original spot within ten seconds.
Once they were together, Jiang Nannan and Zhang Lexuan embraced. In the stunned gaze of the six opponents, a massive silver moon enveloped the two. A terrifying aura exploded forth. In the next instant, their figures vanished—replaced by a towering silver feminine silhouette.
That figure resembled both Zhang Lexuan and Jiang Nannan. She wore a flowing gown of gold and silver, with waist-length silver hair and a glowing golden full moon behind her head. A sacred aura emanated from her—like a goddess of the moon.
"This is… a Martial Soul Fusion Skill!" the others exclaimed, stunned.
None of them expected Zhang Lexuan and Jiang Nannan to pull this. They could clearly feel that the aura of this Moon Goddess had surpassed the Soul Douluo level—comparable to a Titled Douluo!
How were they supposed to fight that?
Zhu Ziyang was just as shocked. He hadn't expected them to actually create a Martial Soul Fusion Skill, let alone one so strong. Based on her aura alone, this Moon Goddess might rival half of Yan Shaozhe's power.
The Moon Goddess moved. With graceful steps and a gown trailing like moonlight, she raised her delicate hand and swept it toward Ma Xiaotao in midair. Ma Xiaotao barely had time to react—her defenses failed, and she was swatted out of the air, crashing into the ground.
Next came Dai Yueheng and Zhu Ziyang. The Moon Goddess raised both hands and struck. Having witnessed Ma Xiaotao's fate, they immediately responded. Dai Yueheng unleashed his Rising Dragon Fist directly into the incoming palm. Zhu Ziyang used space transfer to flash in front of the Moon Goddess and swung his Stillness Fate Ending Scythe toward her neck.
But both efforts were futile. Dai Yueheng's punch collided with the goddess's palm—less than a second later, he too was slammed into the ground. As for Zhu Ziyang, she simply lowered her head, golden light flashing in her eyes, paralyzing him on the spot. Then, with a gentle breath, she blew him away like dust.
The Moon Goddess didn't stop. After easily defeating Chen Zifeng, Ling Luochen and Gongyang Mo were left with no choice but to surrender.
With victory claimed, the Moon Goddess's form shattered like moonlight, revealing Zhang Lexuan and Jiang Nannan once again. Zhang Lexuan held Jiang Nannan, calm and composed, while Jiang Nannan's face had gone pale, clearly exhausted from soul power depletion.
"Sister Lexuan, that's just not fair!" Ma Xiaotao grumbled, picking herself up off the ground. "You wiped us out before the training even started. How is this supposed to help us improve?"
"Hehe, sorry about that. Nannan and I just wanted to test the power of our fusion skill," Zhang Lexuan chuckled. "And it turns out—it's pretty strong."
"Strong is an understatement! A Soul Douluo and a Soul King combining into a Martial Soul Fusion Skill? I bet even an average Titled Douluo wouldn't stand a chance," said Dai Yueheng. As someone from the White Tiger lineage, he understood fusion skills well. His clan and the Zhu Clan had the legendary Ghost White Tiger fusion skill. Unfortunately, there was no Zhu Clan girl in his generation close to his age. Then again, maybe that was a good thing—it meant he could choose the one he truly liked.
"Zhang Lexuan, Nannan, what's the name of that fusion skill?" Zhu Ziyang asked.
"Hehe, of course it's called Moon Goddess! Isn't that fitting?" Jiang Nannan's voice was weak, but it couldn't hide her pride and excitement.
"Moon Goddess, huh? Yeah, that's definitely fitting," the others agreed in unison.
