The night before returning to the country, Eisner had imagined many scenarios of seeing Lucy again in his mind. Among thousands of them, there was no such a one. She was standing in front of him, just two steps away, but it felt like there were thousands of mountains and rivers between them. In front of him, she was kissing someone else and being held in someone else's arms. She didn't care about his misunderstanding, nor did she care that he was angry. She said that the man was her husband. How could that be? Lucy's husband could only be him.
Eisner felt as if a sharp awl was repeatedly stabbing into his heart. His chest was in great pain.
He didn't even dare to ask her if she had come to the Civil Affairs Bureau with Victor to get the marriage certificate.
He said in a hoarse voice in a low tone, "Lucy, didn't you say you'd wait for me to go back to the country together? Why did you leave alone?"
"I bought the meat soup you like, but you weren't in the hospital when I got there."
"I miss you so much. Can you give me a hug?"
Lucy's face was expressionless, and the words she said were as cold as ice.
"I lied to you when I said I'd wait for you. Just take it as a joke."
"I've already made it clear to you in the deep mountains. My family has arranged a marriage alliance for me, and the partner is Victor."
Eisner's face was as pale as a ghost. He endured the pain in his internal organs and murmured.
"No, Lucy. How can you marry someone else? Didn't we agree? After I came back, you'd wait for me in the Atlant family, and I'd come to you after I'd arranged everything."
"You love me so much. How can you marry someone else? No, I don't agree."
Lucy laughed.
"You don't agree? Who do you think you are, Eisner?"
"It was just because I was young and ignorant and had some delusions about you that I made you so arrogant. Now I think of you as trash. Whether you agree or not has nothing to do with me. How dare you?"
Eisner's eyes were bloodshot. Lucy's words were like ice blades, mercilessly cutting and torturing his already - hurting internal organs again and again.
This once cold and gloomy second young master of the werewolf clan, the iron - faced leader in the deep mountains, Eisner, now lowered his head. He was no longer high - and - mighty, no longer cold and aloof.
He pleaded with Lucy in a weak voice.
"It's not like this, Lucy. I'm your husband. You love me."
But Lucy ignored him. She was held in Victor's arms and walked straight forward. When Eisner lifted his foot to chase after them, he was stopped by Victor's bodyguards.
When Lucy reached the car, she suddenly turned around. She thought she still had to find something for Eisner to do, otherwise, it would be quite annoying for him to keep pestering her.
"Eisner, if you want the little werewolf cub to live a good life and carry on the last bit of the bloodline for your elder brother, then I advise you to find someone to take care of him and don't let Isabella get close to him."
This was Lucy's last bit of kindness. It wasn't for Eisner or Isabella. It was just out of pity for the little werewolf cub who had died miserably at the hands of his own mother in his previous life without knowing anything.
After saying that, she got in the car with Victor and drove away in a hurry.
Eisner stood there, and the pain in his chest came in waves. He couldn't understand why Lucy had suddenly become so decisive. Clearly, she had agreed so readily in the deep mountains and said she'd give him time. Clearly, her love for him had been so strong and passionate. How could she suddenly choose to abandon him and marry Victor? He also couldn't understand the words she had left behind. Why couldn't Isabella take care of the little werewolf cub if he wanted to live a good life?
The car carrying Lucy drove out of his sight and slowly disappeared from his view. Finally, Eisner seemed to lose all his strength and slumped to the ground. His phone fell as well. Only then did he see that the vibrating call was from Isabella.
He picked up the phone weakly and said, "Isabella, what's wrong?"
"Eisner, where have you been? Come quickly. The little werewolf cub is in the hospital. After you left, he kept crying and wanted you to accompany him. He accidentally fell down the stairs."
After hanging up the phone, before rushing to the hospital, Eisner's mind was constantly echoing Lucy's words.
"If you want the little werewolf cub to live a good life, find someone to take care of him and don't let Isabella get close to him."
