Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Awakening Power

The dawn broke cold and gray over the ruined lands surrounding the ancient mausoleum. Kertia stood silently among his companions, watching as the first light touched the skeletal remains scattered across the cracked earth. The recent battle had taken its toll, leaving everyone weary but vigilant.

The eerie silence was broken only by the soft rustle of wind through broken stones and the occasional creak of a skeletal guardian shifting restlessly at Kertia's side.

"We need to find the source," Arielle said, her voice low and steady. "This darkness isn't random. Something is corrupting the dead here, awakening forces best left undisturbed."

Doran grunted in agreement. "And whatever it is, it's powerful. I've faced many dark magics, but this... it's unlike anything."

Tomas examined the ground, tracing faint runes etched into the stones. "These markings—they're ancient, predating even the academy's founding. They might be part of a seal or ward."

Kertia knelt, feeling the residual magic pulsing beneath his fingertips. His body, though still fragile, hummed with an unfamiliar strength.

"I can feel it too," he murmured. "A deep power waiting to be unleashed."

The group pressed onward, moving cautiously through the labyrinth of ruins. Suddenly, the earth trembled beneath their feet. A low, guttural growl echoed from the shadows.

From the darkness emerged a massive figure—an undead titan formed from shattered bones and corrupted magic, its hollow eyes burning with malevolent energy.

The team braced for combat, but Kertia felt something stir within him—a primal force awakening.

He closed his eyes, centering his breath, and extended his hands toward the titan. Focusing all his will, he summoned every ounce of the Guardian's ancient magic coursing through his veins.

Slowly, the titan hesitated, its fiery gaze flickering. The bonds of corruption weakened under Kertia's command.

With a commanding snap, Kertia compelled the titan to halt its aggression.

The team stared in disbelief as the monstrous undead slowly bowed to Kertia's will.

"It's... incredible," Arielle breathed. "You're not just controlling bones—you're commanding the very essence of the dead."

Doran nodded. "This is the power of a true Guardian."

Kertia felt a surge of exhilaration but also a warning deep inside. This power was vast, but dangerous. If misused, it could consume him entirely.

As night fell, Kertia sat beside a small fire, contemplating the titan's reluctant obedience.

"This power," he whispered, "is both a blessing and a curse."

Tomas placed a hand on his shoulder. "You're not alone, Kertia. We'll face this together."

Above them, the stars twinkled coldly, as if watching the unfolding fate of a boy destined to become legend.

The awakening was only the beginning.
