Chapter 1 - Binding Ceremony

"So, we all know that 65 million years ago the earth was changed forever by the impact of an asteroid. The one that wiped out the dinosaurs, or so we thought."

"Sixty-five million years later, a second asteroid crashed into the same exact impact site as the previous one. Scientists called it a 'One-in-a-million cosmic fluke'. but it wasn't."

"This second asteroid wasn't just a rock. It was ancient, sentient, and infused with primordial magical energy that predates life itself. When it crashed, the world stirred and every fossil on the planet, from deep-buried skeletons to museum displays, began to resurrect. But these Dinosaurs didn't come back as simple, mere beasts. No, no, they returned enhanced, transformed by the arcane forces in the asteroid. Some breathe fire, others commanded weather, teleport through shadows, or unleash psychic terror".

"Now, imagine a Tyrannosaurus Rex, which is a lethal killing machine possess the ability to breathe fire, what would happen to humanity…?"

"Civilization crumbled, governments fell and humanity was pushed to the very condition of the Dinosaurs former fate— Extinction…"

"They were the ultimate apex predators and they've brought magic with them… in desperation, mankind discovers a way to fight back, not with guns but with magic of their own. By forcing spiritual bonds through enchanted relics and fossil cores, human beings learned to tame the beasts. Thus, the age of Dino Tamers begun…"

"Unbeknownst to humanity, the second asteroid was not all sunshine and rainbows. Its magical properties caused portals from another dimension to open right in the human world. From the depths of this rift in space and time, what we describe as Revenants emerged. They were vicious and love to feed on human flesh."

"However, humans are now heavily dependent on the magical properties this celestial blessing had brought to them and are not willing to get rid of it. This is were Dino Tamers come in, they defend earth from the Revenant attacks and also defend humans from rogue, untamable beast…"

A sea of applauds erupted from every corner forcing Levi's to twitch his eyes. 'Heck, what a strange dream…'

He turned his head, wondering where his stuffed racoon had disappeared to. When he opened his eyes fully, instead of the rickety ceiling fan hanging in his room or the static blur of a live television of maybe some video game he was playing late into the night, he found himself in what he could only understand as a massive lecture hall.

Disoriented, he scanned his surroundings, his eyes wide with shock to see the heads of multiple people in front, sideways and behind him, murmuring to eachother in excitement.

He frowned, 'What the fuck…'

That was when he realized he was seating down on one of the many chairs in this massive lecture hall, not lying on his cozy bed. He looked up out of instinct and saw sky panels displaying shifting clouds and a weak sunlight simulation that provided a hundred percent of the light in the room.

Levi let out a sigh and allowed his gaze to sweep the gathering. 'Did I play too much video games last night?!'

Just as he was starting to gain a little understanding of what was going on, he felt a weight on his back. It was almost as if someone had dead dropped a toddler on his back. He looked down to see that he had something cradled to his back in some kind of back pack.

'Give me a break,' he said to himself as he turned his head to a ninety-degree angle to see what was cradled to his back.

'An egg?'

A big one, about the size of two human toddlers.

He turned his head to the front again to see that the individual in ahead had an egg of their own, it wasn't any kind of egg, it was massive as his and almost metallic in texture and nature.

Levi was utterly confused, why would a multitude of people be carrying heavy, metallic eggs on their backs.

Wondering to himself why this was the case, a random rough looking boy sitting beside him, taking a peek at him and his egg.

Once he saw the size of his egg, he took a good look a Levi's face and snorted in disappointment.

"Who the hell even bothers to show up to a Binding Ceremony with an egg that size?" he muttered loudly enough for everyone within the immediate surrounding to hear.

Muffled laughter and snickering followed suit.

Levi, utterly confused sat there with a grimace on his face.

'Is the quality of an egg based on its size…'

Despite his egg being extremely heavy it was significantly smaller than every egg he could lay his eyes on.

'I see… Binding Ceremony?'

As if the sentence 'Binding Ceremony' was a trigger, his mind squashed open and a rush of information flooded inside his head.

He was Levi Quinn. Not the pale, shrill kid from thr bronx that loves to play video games. No, he was the first and only child to a low-level bio-physicist who spent his days working with Dinosaurs and magic enhanced weapons.

He was born and raised in one of the poorest sectors, Sector L, and sold metal scraps in other to earn Urns {Currency}.

It was these Urns that he had managed to gather, and was just enough to purchase a Dinosaur egg from a shady source.

To Levi though, it didn't matter the size or the source of the egg, as long as it granted him the conditions to participate in the Binding Ceremony, a license to be a Dino Tamer, and the chance to become a Portal Reaper.

And now, standing in a sea of multitude, he and his egg looked like a hoax.

Levi took in a deep breath. He wasn't sure how he got this knowledge, but he found it very helpful.

The information influx wasn't just about him, it told him a great deal about the world he was now in.

The dimensional enemies that came through Portals— The Revenants, had already attacked several times.

But thanks to humans and their ability to tame the magical enhanced Dinosaurs, they were able to resist and repell them.

However, the Revenants are attracted to magical energy and wherever magic is concentrated a new portal opens and if left unchecked, a new army would come forth and relentlessly feast on humans.

Dino Tamers who entered this portals to kill the Revenants armies were called Portal Reapers or just Reapers.

Levi didn't know how to begin processing all of this, but at least he was certain that this world was as real as any other, and that image of a lecturer speaking wasn't just some dream. Rather, an info-introduction to this reality and the stakes that come with it.

Almost like an opening cutscene.

Sitting there, his hands clamped together tightly, he started to think. Since his egg wasn't as big as the rest of the people around him, that would mean that it was next to worthless, wasn't it a better idea to just leave this place and think of a way to get back home… to his original reality.

Before he could explore that thought further, a thunderous magnetic hiss sounded, causing him to swing his head around.

The hall's massive doors had been sealed shut, locking everyone inside.
